LOL
Probably the funniest thing about that joke is that most people under the age of 30 have no clue about Nickelback. It's ok though, that generation has Cardi B so they have it much worse.

I take it then that Nickelback wasn't very popular in Brazil. That would explain why you don't get the joke!
Nickelback is one of those bands which have sold millions of albums but they are still made fun of and mocked by many people. In that sense they are like ABBA or the New Kids on the Block.

To each their own of course but I think there was quite a lot of good music put out in that decade. By comparison, mainstream music now makes the music from the 90's seem like pure genius.

I agree with Panzer, there was a lot of great music that came out in the 90's, .
All my personal preferences of course but these artists put out some great stuff in the 90's:
Nine Inch Nails Nirvana Stone Temple Pilots Smashing Pumpkins Green Day Beastie Boys Red Hot Chili Peppers Foo Fighters Soundgarden

NiN and Smashing Pumpkins had some good songs, so did Beastie Boys.
I prefer stuff from the 70s and 80s, particularly the instrumental electronic stuff known as "ambient space music," and from the 1100s - 1400s, and the baroque and classical periods of the 1600s - 1800s.
Rarely do I understand lyrics in a song, has to do with how my brain interprets sound visually.
I like the joke, lol. I was watching a video and they gave an example of a lame feature of Alexa, and actually gave the command to have it rap, and sure enough, my Alexa device responded, so it's something that could certainly happen. .
And I am sure I will be looked upon with scorn for this but there is actually a Nickelback song that I like, although I take solace in the fact that it's a cover, and not written by them.

Their singer's voice was annoying and their instrumental composition had no visually pleasing qualities. Somehow, though, my senior class in high school voted them best band of the year.
Over the years I have come to really appreciate Pearl Jam, I listen to them a lot these days. They have some great music. Green Day I could never stand, I just want to wipe Billy's nose and tell him to grow up. The worst vocalist of the 90's ?, the guy from The Offspring, holy crap, that is just torture for me.

I would describe that voice as "excruciatingly whiney". These were the guys who said they would be the "next Beatles".
