An otter playing in our pond. He’s enjoying it, but is keeping aware of the alligator. A couple herons are sort of following him to see if he stirs up something for them.
Good people sleep peaceably in their beds at night only because rough men stand ready to do violence on their behalf.
Someday your life will flash in front of your eyes. Make sure it is worth watching.

Sounds like you have a seaplane base in your garden. Must be interesting to watch the animal life outside your window. An alligator as well . Wow. I guess that is typical for Florida?

Really only in the rural and semi-rural areas near swamps and lakes. I've lived almost my entire life in Florida and I've never seen an alligator outside of a zoo or some other tourist attraction.

@Wango Tango, Looks pretty simular to Norway. Nice pics. My father almost ended up in Alberta after WWII. Then he met my mother and stayed. I shouldn`t really complain. Is that in the southern part of Ontario?

My property is right up against a huge state wildlife preserve. It is a bear habitat, but they are pretty skittish so you hardly ever see them. Wild hogs, bobcats, huge flocks of turkeys, deer, bald eagles, hawks, etc. They often wander through our neighborhood. Sometimes an alligator will be seen crossing the roads to get to a different pond or lake. The wild hogs are getting to be a nuisance. They can be quite destructive and are multiplying. Laws have been changed so that they can be shot with no particular hunting season.

Is that in the southern part of Ontario? Yes, Southern Ontario, an hour north of Toronto. I lived in Alberta for 10 yrs as a kid, Dad was in the Air Force. Cold Lake Alberta. Winters are more mild where I live now, and summers are more humid. But I prefer Ontario.

Yesterday morning, while I was watching the news, I caught some motion out my front window. I turned just in time to see the upturned tail of a rather large dog pass out of view. Now, my late wife's final dog died a few months ago, and I've been looking forward to not having to dodge land mines this summer, and the last thing I wanted was to have a neighbor's dog get used to hanging around and making up the difference, so I got up to shoo him away. When I got a better look it turned out to be an eight-point buck and his harem of a half dozen or so does just meandering along within thirty feet of the house. I had the light on in the house and I'm pretty sure he could see me because he stopped and stared right at the window for a good 15 to 20 seconds. I stood still, too, and he eventually decided I didn't pose a threat and went back to just moseying across the property. I get deer up here fairly regularly, but that's the closest I've seen them to the house.
We've got neighbors who own goats and they sometimes will get out of his yard and into mine. We have bears in the area (so plentiful that the state is going to start a limited hunting season), but I haven't seen one in the wild since I left Alaska. Rabbits all the time. The occasional skunk, armadillo, fox and coyote, of course. But my favorite was spotting a mountain lion less than a mile away while on my way home from work several years ago.
Definitely liked the Sun dog. Haven't seen one of those since I left Alaska, either.
SALUTE TO ALL!

Must be awesome living in the middle of nowhere. If I didn't have to work and as long as I have my high speed internet I wouldn't mind living in a remote area like that one.

That is one of the downfalls, paying $194 a month for 15mbps wifi internet. Our government promised 50 mbps anywhere in Canada, but they are yet to deliver. We are about 8 mins from a town of 6,000, and about 20 mins to a city of 130,000. An hour North of Toronto. The peace and quiet is nice. It is a subdivision, but every one has at least 3/4 of an acre. We are on a corner lot with nobody in front of us, it is pretty tranquil.
