Sadly, I never got to fight off a wolf pack with a chainsaw during my rail career, but the rest seems fairly accurate, I did actually have to knock huge icicles off undercarriages, patch over broken windows and deal with frozen and wet interiors where the electric system would be shorting out everywhere.
In my experience, engineers are big drinkers too, in fact at one point I had to drive a train into a station because the engineers had been doing tequila shots and were hammered, and this was when I was a teenager and years away from being an employee...
The best part of working on the railway was the female onboard staff, mostly single 20somethings who were primed by 4 days straight of being on a vibrating, resonating metal prison, and were ready to party.
