I’m liking it so far, it’s been at least 10 years since I read the books but everything seems to parallel pretty accurately. The intro/opening is PERFECT. I’m guessing Philip L Pullman is very involved. I’m so glad this was made into a series, not having a sequel to The Golden Compass really bummed me out. But there’s so much more depth possible in a series, I wish Dune would have been serialized instead of having a second feature film made.

I concur. My wife and I are really enjoying it! Great fantasy/sci-fi/dystopian story.

I think it takes place in book 3, but there’s an interaction between Scoresby and Byrnison that I wonder if it’ll be left in.

It looks like this franchise should have been adapted for TV from the very beginning since that movie with Daniel Craig and Nicole Kidman flopped at the box office. I think it made $370M on a $180M budget, hardly a flop but not as much as they’d hoped for.

I think it made $370M on a $180M budget, hardly a flop but not as much as they’d hoped for. The studio gets about 50-55% of the domestic ticket sales and about 30% of foreign ticket sales so the studio got a lot less than 370 million and when you add in marketing costs, the movie cost significantly more than 180 million,

True, but they never figure advertising costs when they compare budget to box, they’re simply a business expense. I don’t think home video and PPV are counted, either.

Well I was very impressed with season 2, except for one thing - MAKE MORE EPISODES! Season 2 was shortened, but season 1 was only 8 episodes. How long before we’re looking at 4 or 5-episode seasons?
Anyway, I really liked how much ground was covered without it seeming rushed, and the new characters. The scene with Lee & Hester in episode 7 was VERY poignant, very nearly as poignant as in the book. I’m so glad I gave him a chance rather than not liking his character because it wasn’t played by Sam Elliott. Ruth Wilson (Mrs. Coulter) makes an even better villainous antagonist than Parker Posey (Dr. Smith) in “Lost In Space.” Cold, cold, COLD! Is it Dec 2021 yet?
