On the head rest - yep, pull it all the way forward and it pops back. I had to search for it, and there's actually a dedicated video for it on Ford's website. That's right, a dedicated video
just on how to adjust the head rest. So clearly I'm not alone in being perplexed.
Pickup trucks are kind of like firearms - one never really needs one until a person
really needs one, and when that happens there is no substitute.
I do a little light hauling of stuff from time to time, so yeah, I use it. I'm also not one of those nuts who baby their truck; indeed, I lit a cigarette while driving back from the dealership.
I will be getting a spray in bed liner in the next couple of weeks, though.
A few other observations on the truck:
1) The key fob is a nightmare. It's an oblong thing about four inches long and an inch and a quarter wide, with a button on it to release the obscenely long key. I feel like I'm about to shank a mofo every time I open it, and to close it one must press the button and fold it back into storage position. Bonus, it is already rocking sideways in key fob when extended, so durability is questionable. Double bonus: the inch and a half long key is a rectangular shaft sticking out of the key fob hilt, so one can stick it in one's pocket and instantly stab one's ball sack, or not stab it immediately, but then sit down and
then stab one's self in the ball sack. Yea! (No, I don't have the "push to start" button option*)
2) One of the keys can be enabled for Dick Mode. Yes, gentle reader, one can tell the truck that when using the second key all the things it shouldn't do. Like refuse to play any music until the seat belt is fastened, govern the top speed the truck can take, force it into "Eco Mode," making it refuse to accelerate hard off of a red light, report where it is, where it's been, and all about the trip, including maps showing how fast one was going
at every point of the trip.3) The transmission no longer has a One Low, Two Low selection below drive. Instead, there's a manual mode, where one can force the transmission up or down in the gears. Nah, the whole purpose of an automatic transmission
is to be automatic. Plus, anyone who knows how to drive should be able to force the transmission up or down using the brake and gas pedal.
4) I hate that Ford no longer makes a step side truck. My last truck was step side, and it was super useful. One can buy these add on steps under the sides of the bed to mock the utility of a step side, but that seems just terrible. Hell, I'm shaking my head on the step and stand up bar built into the tailgate to help one get into the bed of the truck. This thing is never going to be used.
It's a huge jump in technology for me in some ways, but at the end of the day it's just a nice truck; not the fanciest, but pretty good.
* Actually, one can start the truck with the push of a button - on a smart phone. I don't think one can
drive the truck after it's been started by remote. Oh, and one can program it to start itself at a pre-determined time, in case one wanted to warm/cool it before getting in.
