Well the nice folks at Walmart will sell you ONE for $386.87 CND ($300 USD)

https://www.walmart.ca/en/ip/CAP-Ba...bbell-Black-Single-40-lb/PRD6QXOYERIB9S0

And there isn't even a KISS logo on it.

Talk about taking advantage of the pandemic. People can't get to their gyms, many out of work, so we might as well mark it up by %900.

I've seen that behaviour at Amazon also, I assume it's the mechanism by which, when they run out of stock and are not sure of a restock, they discourage people from buying it. But pay a ridiculous price and they'll do something.

That's pretty much the normal Canadian price markup.

I can't believe folks feel the need to pay for exercise equipment of any kind, especially when there is always so much work available such as snow removal.

You only ever see this online which leads me to believe it's a mistake. Judging from what I usually see in store, they average out to around ~$1 per pound.

Yes, a $1 a pound is normal price.
Prices are even higher on Amazon. It's not just Walmart.
I'm assuming its because of a shortage. Yes, a $1 a pound is normal price.

I've shoveled mine 4 times since yesterday. Just finished actually. I am exactly 100 feet to the road, double wide. I have a snowblower, and a lawntractor with a snowblade, tire chains, the whole works. I prefer to do it my hand (4 inches or less), good cardio. But free weights are great for keeping that muscle tone.
On a side note, my son bought me a smartwatch for Christmas, should be motivating watch how many steps I take per day.

FYI, Canadian tire sells them too, and is more likely to have stock (because who shops for weights at Canadian Tire?). It's where I got my last 3 pair of weights, with the same price as Walmart.

I also do mine by hand. I try never to turn my back on the gifts nature bestows. (Be sure to lift with your knees and not your back. smile )

Folks cannot believe how far I walk and run, even in the coldest temperatures. I tell them that the cold helps me from sweating too much and reduces swelling in my knees.

If you don't like the price then don't buy it. I'm sure there are plenty of other barbells you can buy out on the free market that are cheaper. The last time I checked, Walmart didn't have a global monopoly on retail sales of barbells. It seems you have a problem with the fundamental dynamic of market demand largely dictating prices?

If I could run a business where people pay $100 per package of styrofoam cups you better believe I would do it!

LOL.

I was waiting for Panzermeyer's Supply and demand rant. Took longer than normal.

Panzermeyer would be the only guy standing in line for a $50 loaf of bread in Romania, that was happy. Explaining to all the others...supply and demand you know ?

when prices are this outrageous, yes I do.

And it is not just Walmart.

Then you are morally bankrupt.
Money is not the most important thing in life Panzermeyer.
Taking advantage of a pandemic, and marking products up by %900 is despicable.

Where's your evidence for that? How would you know if Walmart is pricing that specific dumbbell to take advantage of the current pandemic?

They were a $1 a pound before the pandemic, for years, decades even.
We are in a pandemic, many people cannot got to the gym. Fitness equipment is marked upped drastically.
This dumbbell is just one example. I am not going to give the benefit of the doubt, and believe it is a coincidence.

I think SippyCup is probably right and that this is just a misplaced decimal point.

With a little more digging I found out it is a company called Urban Inspirations Inc. that is linked to the Walmart website.
They are really cool people, they will sell you a roll of Glad Wrap for $68.67

https://www.walmart.ca/en/urban-inspirations-inc/N-10000432

Or a picnic sized, Camp Chef Propane Outdoor Portable Campfire for $2,656.51

https://www.walmart.ca/en/ip/Camp-Chef-Propane-Outdoor-Portable-Campfire/PRD2OZT31Q0T9YD

Looks like it is lowlifes fishing, trying to catch suckers.

I think I am going to pick up the Wright Tool 145MM 1-1/2-Inch Drive 6 point Standard Metric Impact Socket, it's a steal at $2362.44

https://www.walmart.ca/en/ip/Wright...ard-Metric-Impact-Socket/PRD2C0OZQWB955D
