Depends on how much the streaming services are willing to pay for it. Plus, some of those are going to be released to theaters as well. Also, for movies released in theaters, the theaters get a cut. So they should be able to get most of their money back and since the studios already paid for the movie, it may be better for them to release at cost or a small loss than not released at all. You'll have to check with their accountants for that though.

Actually unless they changed it and i doubt it, the typical scenario was studios got 70% of the first week , then 50% with people having acess day one online, you can see how screwed theathers are in this deal.

This is correct. The share the studio gets for theatrical releases is indeed "front-loaded" so the percentage take starts high and then it decreases the longer the movie stays in theaters. This is why the movie theater chains absolutely LOVE movies that have had long legs like "Titanic", "Avatar" and basically any of the Marvel movies.

Wonder Woman 1984 is now on HBO MAX in IMAX 1080p, it dropped 19 minutes ago at exactly 11 am Central/12 pm Eastern.

Does “Wonder Woman 1984” cost extra money?

“Wonder Woman 1984” is free with your HBO Max subscription, but will only be on the service for one month.

Then it will be made available on premium video on-demand for an additional cost.

https://www.cnbc.com/2020/12/25/soul-wonder-woman-1984-arrive-on-christmas-heres-how-to-watch.html

Also if you are paying for a monthly TV services, some of them like AT&T Uverse, have HBO MAX included.

Wonder Woman 1984 is getting terrible reviews from people who bought HBO Max just to see it, Many going as far as to say Batman '66 is award winning in comparison. "Spectacularly Awful" as one put it.

Since that is the case then selling the licensing rights to HBO was the right move. The box office performance would have been subpar.

i aquired from...tcertain means of free waters and i only could stand up to the first 15 min because i skiped intro to the modern day....and omg...that #%&*$# is campy as f****, first this is ghostbusters all over.....man are bad and they dont even hide, the acting in the mall sequence is so bad that im inclined to believe they hired D actors in order to gadot have something to bounce of with her level of acting.
i deleted this and saved some space for porn in order to cleanse my hard drive of this feminist crap. It was clear then, as it is now.....the first movie only got the rave reviews because a woman directed it, that movie was all snyder in script and sequence, anyone who knows his work knows that, i wouldnt be surprised if he ghost directed the action sequences.

if the rest of the movie follows the first 15 min, its dumb, poorly acted and cheesy as hell, the mall sequence looked like it was done to 720 degrees from snyder doom and gloom, because it looks like an kid 80s movie..maybe it was on purpose.....but....then you have to make the whole movie like that and most importantly....the audience has to know.
no wonder they tossed this to hbomax

The first few minutes of the movie not set in 1984 is the only good part of the movie. But I didn't understand what the teaching was. Even if allowed to finish, still a loss. Missed a 'banner"

nah, this just smell of damage control, patty will be busy with marvel, and both her and gadot were just trying to distance themselves not a day before lol, DC anounced 23 movies slates, of those they made 2 while marvel did 9 in the mean time.....so....dont trust their anouncements.

I would say only watch WW84 if you have it on in the background or watch it on your PC in the corner of the desktop while surfing the web..

It is just not a very good movie

the way they shoehorned Chris Pine into the movie was pretty bad + the flying scenes (the airplane and later WW soaring through the clouds) made zero sense

Bad reviews ONLY matter if it significantly affects the financial bottom line. Studios won't change their creative approach with a film franchise otherwise.

Remember that the economics now has all changed fundamentally due the simultaneous release on streaming and theaters. HBO Max paid a very hefty licensing fee to WB.

In a profile over at The New York Times, the Warner Bros. executive reveals that, from 2022, there will be up to four DC Comics movie playing in theaters per year. These are big budget blockbusters designed for the big screen, but the plan is to have two additional movies - "perhaps focused on riskier characters like Batgirl and Static Shock," as the site explains - debut on HBO Max.

It's a bold plan, but one that could work wonders for the struggling DCEU. TV show spinoffs are also a priority, and Hamada admits that, "with every movie that we’re looking at now, we are thinking, 'What’s the potential Max spinoff?'" The first of those will tie into The Batman and The Suicide Squad.

riskier ? after batman they are your most liked characters and something fans have been asking for a DECADE
Quote

As for how these stories will work, Hamada believes that moviegoers and HBO Max subscribers should have no trouble understanding that they play out in the DC Multiverse, a concept The Flash is going to introduce when it's released (hence why it stars two different versions of Batman).

"I don’t think anyone else has ever attempted this,"

except disney ,with star wars and marvel, oh sucessfully doesnt count ? got it.

Quote
[/quote]Hamada explains. "But audiences are sophisticated enough to understand it. If we make good movies, they will go with it."

still waiting on at least one of that.

So their plan is to make a bunch of unrelated movies, series, not linked at all or some linked, put it in the blender, and whenever a plot hole comes call it multiverse ? yeah, that wont confuse general audience at all.........

The hardcore fans will see the movies with these characters but will the mainstream casual audience see them? That's debatable and hence why it's "riskier". Admittedly, I've never even heard of Static Shock.

mainstream is what got static popular with the cartoon, just like it popularized justice league that lets be honest, even though they predate them ,it was a poor dc avengers at that point. even my father who never liked comics would sit up close during lunch to catch an eye of justice league cartoon. to think they missed that moment for 15 whole years and still consider their most popular properties as risky, tells all you need to know.

just give up the facade, make more batman movies DC, in fact, make all batman movies, but be smart, like the cartoon brave and the bold and make cameo from other heroes......who knows, this way you can stabilish a universe while still making a movie of your most recognizable character, like you intended all along

#%&*$# batman.....serious, this is all wb can do...even the cartoons now are batman batman batman.....they even placed him on dark justice, lmao.....

I went to see WW84 today with two friends for a matinee. We were the only customers in the regular screening. It was also showing in their XD theater so maybe that screening had more people. All I can say is that I felt sorry for Ms. Gadot. She is such a charmer on screen and she deserved a better movie. It was bad-really bad. Fortunately, one of my friends treated us to the movie, or I would have left and asked for my money back.

I haven't been inside a movie theater since I saw "The Last Jedi" roughly about one year ago!

I think this was my first foray since maybe March of this year. All the theaters started closing shortly after that time. I had really enjoyed the first WW movie--maybe it was the fantasy WWI setting and getting to see Gal Godot's wonderous long legs. However, this second iteration had the feel of a pointless 5th edition of a franchise when they have totally run out of good plots and are just cashing in on the success of the previous films. Consequently, instead of 2 or 3 other decent movies, they went straight to Wonder Woman 5. In fact, Police Academy 5 was probably better. At least it had the black cop who can make fantastic sound effects using only his vocal cords and mouth. In fact, if they could have gotten him for the Wonder Woman movie it would have been 100% better but would have still been a dud. This new movie had just too many Whiskey Tango Foxtrot moments to make any sense at all.

Instead of being the Temple of Doom in the Indiana Jones franchise, they went straight to the Crystal Skull mess of a movie, which was still 10x times better than this POS.

Cheers
