I think its clear by now that "don't butcher your cutting edge title in the hopes of making it workable with ancient consoles" is right up there with "don't get into a land war in Asia".

Its possible that they may restore a lot of the cut content {at least for PC and newest consoles} now that they have more time to actually finish the game, but regardless CDPR has damaged its reputation.

I also feel like they would have been much better off sticking closer to the PNP RPG mechanics instead of going with the supernatural physics of a typical fantasy RPG.

Meh. There isn't much of any substance in the list of pre-release changes IMO. Certainly not enough to make your claim that 80% of the game is missing to be anything other than rampant hyperbole.

There is a metric #%&*$# of content in the game, most of which is of high to very high quality, with a fairly thin layer of glitches and minor bugs detracting from the solid core of the game.

Consoles are certainly a problem, and with the ambitious scope of the game, even as finally implemented I can't see them being practical for this type of game. The Marketing 'pretending' that consoles would be more than usable, and then preventing proper review and reporting of the actual pre-release performance and problems is a bad mark for marketing.... but then advertisers and marketeers are not people I trust generally. I don't generally do pre-orders. It is better to make decisions once you have the full deets.

the story is good but you can see a lot was cut from it as well. side quests are basically the same stuff in different places, with a few ones with a narrative. it clearly looks like they changed the game at least twice in terms of narrative, some character talk stuff that seems to lead somewhere or that come from somewhere that you never get to know.
plus they anounced the life choice would impact the game and have a meaningfull intro quest..you are basically done in 10 to 15 minutes, and if you choose corpo you just talk to 2 guys and that is it not even a quest. the game certainly would be a game changer if they did what they advertised 1 year ago. now it is and will always be just a generic rpg shooter.

I stopped paying to be a beta tester over a decade ago, and not just with gaming. "Never Buy Version 1.0 of Anything" is my creed, and it's both saved me a lot of frustration AND given me the rewards of good products after OTHER people volunteered to be guinea pigs.

Lawsuits - plural:

Quote
CD Projekt may face class-action lawsuits over Cyberpunk 2077

a partner in the Polish firm Mikołaj Orzechowski who is apparently also an investor in CDPR, who writes (according to Google Translate), "we are currently analyzing, together with the law firm's team, the grounds for bringing a class action together with the notification of the possibility of committing a crime under Art. 286 of the Penal Code. - misrepresentation in order to obtain financial benefits".

Meanwhile, a press release from New York firm Wolf Haldenstein Adler Freeman & Herz LLP has announced that it too is "investigating a potential securities class action lawsuit against CD Projekt SA" and calls for investors who have incurred losses to make contact.

This seems like the final capstone in what has been a very bad week for CD Projekt.

The outcomes will be interesting. At least, it puts game developers thinking of a too-early (flawed) release "on notice".

I just a second ago heard it described as "Deus Ex on steriods", and had previously been thinking of it as very much like a futuristic "Mafia on steroids"... neither of which is describing 20% of "a game". Maybe it doesn't match some media fantasy and the myth you built in your imagination... but neither does the state of the game (on a machine able to run it) match the myth you are creating today.

Yup. The consoles' performances got this started -- not the PCs.

I read that Consoles were over 40 percent of 8 million pre-orders and PCs the rest (don't know how accurate that is). Mostly older consoles. If so, a possible couple million older console users could add up to a couple million unhappy campers -- possibly over $150,000,000 worth -- a significant number.

This is sad and good to hear. I can only tolerate GTA for so long, before I grow bored.

I dislike mission structure in open world games. I do not want to be told what to do next, and I especially don't want to have to refer to a map that tells me where to go to get my next mission, or have to wait until my next mission appears. I long for the days of Ultima where there were no notes, there were no quest markers, there were no directed destinations. We had to figure everything out by dialogue with every single NPC in the realm, and figuring out what the right questions were to ask, while exploring and adventuring an discovering at our own pace.

I enjoy games that require the use of my mind, not my clicking finger.

Current gaming is mostly geared towards Millennials, enough said...

Mind you, things like pathing and map indicators certainly make sense in the Cyberpunk context.

Anyway, patch 1.05 fixed some stuff, at this rate the game should run cleanly by 1.20 or so!

I'm also noticing a lot more vehicle traffic in some locations now, to the point where lane splitting with a motorcycle is almost a must if you want to bypass it quickly.

When I was playing The Witcher 3, I had the same problem I had with Skyrim, but slightly worse. I found that in the Witcher, I had this amazingly rendered world around me, but that all I was doing was following a quest marker and watching the mini-map. Literally just follow the arrow, do The Thing, then follow the next arrow.

Thankfully, unlike Skyrim, I was able to disable all that stuff right in the Witcher game. If I needed to go anywhere, I had to look at my map & figure out where it was & how to get there. If I wanted to try a shortcut through an orchard, I had to look deep into the orchard to see if there were any creatures in there rather than look at my mini-map radar. I had to make more risky decisions based on what I could see in the actual 3D rendered world. I enjoyed it much more after that. I had to do the same thing for Skyrim, except that had to be done with mods. In Skyrim, once I had done all that I started to notice all these little paths that go all over the place. Following them always led to finding something interesting to do. With those horrible quest markers & "points of interest" markers, I would likely not even have noticed them. But they are there, someone made them to be discovered & followed.

Does Cyberpunk 2077 have the same abilities?

It does... but you probably want the HUD 'in world' point marker... even if you disable the mini-map path. You'll get lost a lot, turned around a lot, but it is workable, and reasonable since you get a 'go here' with most quests and are tech'ed to the gills.

It would be unpossible to play with no aids on though IMO, and actually intending to get anything specific done, as the world is too complex and the directions not spelled out. YMMV on that though.

lol the hotfix to prevent dum dum to follow you in the game broke a quest where he is suposed to open a door for you so the area is now inacessible. and from what people say this quest is necessary to unlock one of the endings.

Speaking of endings (and I won't go into details), this game has some harsh ones.

From my reading, the prime issue is Consoles. But, that's about 40 percent of sales -- 3.2 million buyers.

Got it. So for me personally not a big deal but for Red Projekt it's a huge one.

I've not noticed any of those on the PC either. The bugs anyways. Some of the other issues like crouch and skip dialog being the same button still happen on PC.
