How odd, was about an hour into the game and doing first set of training missions. Decided to only complete the first two and exited the area. Next thing I'm storming into a flat to rescue someone I've never heard of whilst being guided by someone else I've never heard of, and when finished I had to ring someone I'd never heard of. All of this taking place in Night city that I never even realised I'd entered.

Did you skip the whole 'montage' bit?

No, just walked out of the training room. Oh well, hopefully things will become clearer.

The montage is before you drive up with Jackie and he gives you the training shard.

There are three different paths, based on life-choice start, in all of them, you fall foul of the police/corpos/corpos and end up tagging along with Jackie, who partners up with you, and you meet his mum, his gf misty, and they set you up with a new pad...

Then the two mercs V and Jackie are sent by their fixer to find a missing girl. At the site, Jackie suggests you refresh your training with a new shard T-bug had prepared (which you can do, do half of, or skip), then the mission starts.

The speech checks are quite common through the game based on the choice of origin and they open doors/solve problems, but the overall arc is similar from this point on afaict.

Thanks for the explanation. Last thing I did (nomad) was drive through the border check point then into training. Not had sight of mum, gf etc. But just tried again and it seems I've a new pad as well. Like a twilight zone episode.

By the training room do you mean the combat and hacking tutorial that you do virtually while sitting in the car before the rescue missions that Lieste is referring to?

If so then yep, that's where the three unique backgrounds all converge. there is a long montage that flitters by (I was like what's this then?) and it flashes up on the screen "6 months later". At this point you're tight with Jackie and you're running together, doing jobs. This rescue is just another one of those jobs (the ones that came before being handled by that montage which is supposed to represent the time that has passed I guess)

Which life path had you chosen? I can't speak for the others, but in Street Kid I surely knew Jackie from what transpired before. T-Bug is the one guiding you but I cannot recall now whether I had encountered her before this mission? But this of course will be the first time you hear of Sandra, the girl you're sent to rescue. If you suddenly found yourself in NC, then I reckon you went nomad.

I think archermav's confusion stems from the fact that 6 months went by and you're just dropped in to the day the Rescue mission comes up.

No, now go away or I shall taunt you a second time!

Yeah T-bug is your netrunner and the girl in the Militech training chip she has hacked and augmented.
You meet her first for this job, actually in the training sim, and she is running scans/making hacks for you in the mission for the first time. You are all three part of a crew being assembled for a job (which at this point you know nothing of) - Jackie is your usual partner.

For Nomad, once your "smuggling the lizard" goes wrong you agree to set up with Jackie - which leads to a montage of 'first seeing the sights', meeting mum, getting drunk, stealing a case, making a sale etc meeting misty, losing a tooth, chasing bad-guys, having a shoot out, meeting mum and misty, moving into a new apartment ... then in the car getting your new job... do you want tutorial on how to play?

For Street Kid... once your "steal the hot wheels" doesn't quite head the same way everyone expects... the rest as above.

For Corpo-rat... once things go sideways... Jackie takes you in... rest as above. I think this one is the longest of the intro missions though, but only by a bit.

Another thing I'm not crazy about is how the enemies level with you, to a varied extent. Typical enemies that I could kill quickly near the beginning of the game are now fairly "tanky", although my character can take a lot more damage also. I would have preferred that everybody stay fairly easy to kill unless there is good reason why they wouldn't be, which is one of the key hallmarks of the pen and paper game.

Those complaints aside, this is still easily the best open world game I've ever experienced.

It seems to be if you want a sneaky character to put as many or more points into tech and intel so you can bypass many of the locks, doors, security ect.

I'm trying to find the relic using the Braindance in Yorinobu's apartment. I thought I'd searched everywhere but clearly I'm missing it. I assume it has to be within signal range of the girl. I'll keep going but I got a bit frustrated with it earlier.

Did you cycle the filters between visual, thermal and audio? The signal range for visual and thermal are LOS, and a couple can be some distance away.

Thanks chaps. Yep DBond, I went Nomad. Lieste, yep, that explains everything. Obviously I've clearly missed the six month montage thing so was getting rather confused (easily done for me). I'll crack on from here. Thanks both, most helpful.

You need to look for a cooled location, which is stable. Some are not cool enough, some are likely to be disturbed/change temp. As Evie moves around the flat she can pick up new thermal 'hits', so you need to wipe back and forth as she follows YA about or steps out of his way.

Thanks. I eventually got it but I spent far too much time in that room.

How's performance for you guys? Hearing horror stories (RTX 2080 Super on a 4K Monitor here)

Does it compare okay with other modern titles (Metro Exodus, Far Cry 5 etc.) or is it noticeable more demanding?

It runs surprising well on my close to minimum spec system except at times in really crowded areas.

Of course, I have the graphics set to minimum other than FOV set to 100 and 1360x768 resolution.

Anyway, at 80+ hours in, along with the usual complaints about lack of AI and depth, I really wish CDPR had stayed closer to the pen and paper game mechanics and noir vibe. It seems kind of a waste for them to have acquired the Pondsmith Cyberpunk IP and then reimagine so much of it.

I'm running a GTX970 @1080 on med settings but I think I could raise a few and maybe fine tune it a little. Still looks great on med.

I have some friends who have already put Cyberpunk down and went back to other games. "Window dressing" and "less immersive than GTA V" seem to be a common theme.

They're not right, are they?

I'd say not. Though I only watched, rather than played (so that changes things a little.. but.. ), I thought the gameplay (less a few bugs which look fixable) was enjoyable to watch, and was definitely fun for the streamer. The main story had its moments of sheer awesome, particularly towards the middle/late stage, and some of the 'major' side quests were top tier.

Activities in world varied from speed-bumps to fun, but you could certainly do fewer of them if they weren't your bag, or more of them to generate money and parts and to spend more time in the world.

I certainly will buy it post patching to play, and don't regret having spent the 60 ish hours to watch the two endings from the first life-path & ending course decision.

Best game EVAARRR? Nah. But right up among the more enjoyable ones to watch someone enjoying. Bug fixing will certainly help it if they can pull it off, and some mechanics looked weaker than they should be... (Police AI was obnoxious and needs some improvement to spawning logic and seeking behaviour to make it seem more 'organic' to the world. One major fight was spoilt by a pathing bug which 'jammed' a mobile enemy in place.. so yeah. Some fixes needed.)

Base consoles are a disaster though, and their inclusion probably wasted a lot of effort, and a compromise to routines that could have been more robust. They are offering refunds to any console owners who are dissatisfied so it could be worse. The "Pro" versions of the last gen are doing somewhat better, and next gen is reported as better than 'okay', on the base PS4/XB version (dedicated version to follow later).
