Of course we can never say "never" but I sometimes wonder if the DCS series will actually end up being the last commercially released modern flight sim for PC?

Besides DCS, what has been the most recently released modern jet sim for PC? Was it the last sim from the Strike Fighter series? Keep in mind that I'm talking about NEW releases and not any community-made mods like those made for Falcon 4.

The only one I can think of is CAP 2.

I'm not familiar with CAP 2 but I did some online research and found out it was released on Steam in 2016. It currently has a 49% rating from 234 reviews on Steam. Apparently the game doesn't support a HOTAS system or even a standard joystick! From the screenshots posted on the store page the game looks a bit too "arcade-like" for my tastes.

I've never had a problem with my Logitech 3D Pro or my Thrustmaster T16000m. I would say it's more like Strike Fighters for complexity. Unfortunately it's a small team working on it so updates are very slow hence the 'abandoned' reviews. I took a punt on it because I wanted a modern Harrier (in this case AV-8B) sim.

I've since bought DCS AV-8B but so far I've not played it.

Did you end up enjoying the sim? For how long did you have it installed and actively play it?

I joined at an early stage when there wasn't much to do (there still might not be, I haven't played it for ages) and it didn't really hold my attention tbh. As to the current state of the game you'd need to ask someone like Damson as I think he was playing it.

Unfortunately my increased lack of interest in the sim genre is the problem. I have only DCS and IL-2 installed 'just in case' the mood takes me one day.

Technically this will be a new commercial release version of SF2 https://store.thirdwire.com/project_sf2_w10.htm

I may well buy into Strike Fighters 2 when the windows 10 version comes out!

I guess you mean combat flight sim? I have given MSFS 2020 a spin, and though it has a beta feel about it (the whole BING map concept is very hit and miss) and there are a lot of complaints about the jet flight models, it seems like MS is in it for the long haul.

So is it too much to hope they will turn it into a combat sim like they did with CFS 3?

I've not seen it on any development road map, but once they've exhausted other ways to capture new users, why not?

Correct. I consider the military/combat flight sim genre to be a separate one from the civilian flight sims.
