I just can't get into any sort of fantasy video game, RPG etc. I prefer my games to based in reality, ie flight sims, driving sims, naval sim, soldier sim, spaceflight sim. I think it's mainly because I don't want to learn how the given fantasy world works. I finally figured out that is why I could never get into "Elite Dangerous", which I should otherwise love. I just didn't want to learn the economics of what to trade where etc.
If you like Medieval, have you considered Kingdom Come Deliverance?
At this point I don't really like learning all new game mechanics and control schemes, nor do I often stray outside the FPS, sim and open world genres anymore.
As far as Cyberpunk lore goes, take my word for it that its about as messy and inconsistent as that of the Fallout universe, and someone like me who comes in knowing a little about the tabletop Cyberpunk 2020 world is probably not going to find a whole lot that's familiar, or be at much of a useful advantage.
That's a valid point I suppose. There are few NPCs you can interact with in GTA, although it is densely populated. Most of it is window dressing so I think I see where you're coming from. I think Cyberpunk will be way ahead of anything else in random interaction with seemingly innocuous, unimportant or otherwise unremarkable NPCs. We all have our standards, or what we look for in our games, what is important to us. I hope you don't miss a great game because of this though.
I will buy the game, regardless. I'm a sci-fi writer and a sci-fi junkie, after all, and I love the cyberpunk sub-genre.
Oh, OK that's good Blastman. I was thinking those were purchasing criteria.
BTW generally, the delays seem to be due to console performance, most notably on XBox One. I get that the publisher wants a multi-platform release. But on the other hand, it kinda sucks that it's being held up by such a creaking hardware platform. If it's true of course. But if it is that helps to assuage my fears that the problems were more deeply rooted in systems, mechanics or core game elements.
Review moratorium is said to be lifted December 7th.
This game was first announced in 2012 if I recall correctly, so it's been a long time coming, rivaling Chris Roberts' err, project, in development time. A week and day, if there are no further delays.....
No, now go away or I shall taunt you a second time!
I don't think CDPR had a choice on the last delay or two since they have to release on all platforms simultaneously. I preordered it months ago and I cannot wait to see how it is next week.

Heck, even Duke Nukem Forever got beat by Fighter Ops!

I think The Last Guardian had a long wait as well. DBond, I'm not sure about the helo game. I thought there was an Apache sim or something in the works years back?
S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 has to be up there, originally scheduled for a 2012 release, now its supposedly going to be a 2021 game, blyat!
Anyway, I'm a little worried that Cyberpunk's gunplay and melee will only be marginally better than Fallout 4's, yeah I know its supposed to be an RPG and not CyberTarkov 2077, but it would be nice if I'm wrong.
Valid concern, but from what I've seen it will be far from Fallout level combat. More like Borderlands in how fluid and over the top it is. The weapons themselves look to be amazing, and modular. Looks like there's a lot of depth here, in weapons types and styles through customization. the actual gunplay and especially melee look awesome. Not sure how much character attributes will affect things. Like if your skill is low will you miss point blank shots because the die roll said so? It does not appear to be the case. Have you seen this?

I can dig that others have their own expectations, standards or paradigms. Based on what I have seen, I am impressed with the combat. I mean, this is a a full-blown RPG. Not many first-person RPGs have good free-aim firearm and melee combat. Games like Fallout, Deus Ex, Stalker and Mass Effect do not have strong combat mechanics. Fantastic games (although I never liked ME as much as others do), but the gunplay is not a strength. I have not played FO 4 or 76 so maybe that's improved, and I think VATS is cool, but that's why I specified free-aim.
A few RPGs that comes to mind where I think the combat is good are RDR 2, Borderlands, Prey. But I reckon most play RDR2 in third-person. I played it entirely in first person and liked the combat. I guess Prey could count here too, but I seem to like the combat in this game more than most, judging by the comments I see. But even then, you wouldn't compare Prey's combat to the best shooters. It's a bit rudimentary really.
Compared to other games in the genre, Cyberpunk's combat (based on a handful of videos and game previews) looks to be really good. But I also realize we can't really know yet. It may be a huge letdown once we've had a chance to give it a go. The combat skill tree is pretty broad, and it will be interesting to see how precious skill points are, or how diverse versus specialized our mains will need to be built. The weapons system looks very cool. Weapon customization is one of my favorite things in games. The ability to modify it and make it mine is very appealing. There's a stealth element and hacking element (remotely jam an unsuspecting enemy's weapon before initiating combat for example). You can grab a NPC to use as a human shield. Taken as a whole I think Cyberpunk has the potential to be a great combat RPG, and the videos don't do anything to discourage this opinion. Looks like a lot of fun to me.

The only RPG's I've ever played where the gunplay/combat was really significantly different from what you see in your standard first person and third person shooters are the two "Knights of the Old Republic" games where the combat is turn based and you have to queue up your commands while the game is paused and then you unpause the game and watch the combat unfold.
Disclaimer: I never played any of the old school isometric RPG's from the 90's and earlier.
