It would be quite a treat. But it's also true that time spent putting together footage takes away from precious developer time. Hopefully we can fly WOFF: NEXT for ourselves within a few months. Work has finally slowed down for me so I plan on putting in a bunch of flight hours.

Good news. Flying past other airfields that could have handled the mission always seemed silly to me. I envisioned waving at them as they flew to patrol near my home field. And Intercepts with a twenty minute flight enroute are just ridiculous.

It's an incredible amount of code and work to make things "realistic", but flying past an airfield isn't a big deal as sometimes they may be attacking another different target also near the front. But yes it will be better as all things we try to make it better!

Yeah, always seemed a bit wrong to fly one sortie a day in the middle of a major offensive, especially after 1916.

This is also related to campaign frequency setting in the Workshop, and the general OOB (Order of Battle) information for each squadron in the major battles which can vary.
There's a fair few squadrons.

The whole rebuilding the entire air war thing as I say is incredibly complex to make happen, even what is in WOFF at the moment. One day we may recreate real life 100%.

If only some alpha / beta tester had the spare time. lol

Keep rocking on Pol. The list of improvements is extraordinary!

Nothing is ever going to be 100% but it's also true that even now, nothing else is even remotely as close to that unattainable goal as WOFF.

Hi, I am curious if these restrictions will apply AI controlled aircraft as well?

Too much info spoils things I think, but no it doesn't. Too much overhead to make all these happen everywhere, for example an AI pilot 5 miles away having to reload his lewis.

Hallo @Pol,

thanks for all the informations; it sounds great!!

I have only a short question in relation to this point:
"A+B flights are now sometimes combined - all fly in B Flight.
German: 6/1917 onwards: they may combine both flights into B as one large flight quite often - as player, and as an enemy flight that player may run into if he is not German.
Other Nations: 6/1917 onwards - if A Flight is not allocated then B Flight is often now larger."

Will the sim offer (or generate) different (or new) flight formations for large flights? To be honest, I don't know the historical facts about these formations.

Thanks for answer and Greetings!

There aren't new formations as such. We may have tweaked some and how flights combine but you'll just have to wait for the release to see how that is, or if w covering it in a video at some point.

OK a few more of the WOFF 202x features some of course we have posted clips of previouisly.
:

Built in Engine Rocker arm animation axes as well as Engine vibration animation axes.
Engine Vibration occurs
1) At Stall
2) At Overspeed
3) At low RPM
4) when engine damaged

Built in pilot head animation for player craft - Externally pilots 'scan the skies' and craft controls:
1) Shakes/Dither noise when engine/prop is turning
2) Faces forward when shooting.
3) Reduces scanning activity when injured and head slowly droops more as progressive injuries occur.

Also built in simplified head animation for all AI craft - faces forward when shooting.

Player Pilot head now shakes from wind buffet even when looking straight ahead i.e even with no active 'look' animation being processed.

Improved Collision Avoidance

Support for Historical Ace Rank and Ace Aircraft is now incorporated and used for both the player squadron and all AI squads.
Now appropriate text files can provide the data for an Ace's rank at any particular date, and also which aircraft he was assigned. Much more detailed and granular information is possible to be used now.

I for one personally think WOFF 202x is a hideous name for the new version. Pol, I find it hard to believe that you chose that name after all of the wonderful names proposed by me, and a few alright ones proposed by the community. Whatever! rolleyes

The WOFF 202x makes me expect Pol to come out in a black turtleneck and talk about how "innovative" the next generation of WOFF will be...and then sell it for $1000

I got fired as the door man at a sperm bank.
Apparently it's in poor taste to tell leaving customers "Thanks for coming."

Nice context specific animations, Pol. Between that and the new immersive sound effects to let us know what's going it, it's going to feel more intense than ever up there in the big unfriendly war torn skies!

Thanks for the work and the recent key reissue. Just read the entire thread and donated a twenty to the war effort. Thanks for making an amazing WWI sim and continuing to make it better.

wink we have a couple of favourites from the naming. We'll pick one shortly .

Hope so Todd, trying to get to a Beta as soon as possible, spent an extra few days polishing up the landing some that delayed us a bit but onwards..

Thanks R.T

I hope my post wasn't construed as complaints, though I can see how it could be. I understand that trying to code everything that happens more or less on its own in real life is literally impossible. As much as one can who's never tried it, that is. Those are just a couple of things that I've noticed and put down to that very fact. I was expressing joy in the fact that you've finally managed to crack those nuts.

"WOFF: 202X" gave me another idea for a title...WOFF 20-Twentysomething.

SALUTE TO ALL!
