So apparently the AMA's were last night. No mention at all about the death of an American Rock icon, Eddie Van Halen.
Can't say I am surprised, but Eddie had more talent in his little finger than most of todays artists.

I haven't cared for any type of music awards show since the late 90's and apparently most people at least in the US feel the same way since the Nielsen ratings have been plummeting for all music awards shows for the past several years now.

edit: Ah, here's an example. The ratings for the AMA's should be out soon.

I don't care for them either. I just wanted to point out the disgraceful omission. Eddie is arguably the most influential American guitarist of all time. I wouldn't argue, but some would.
I'm glad to see their ratings in the toilet, it's where they belong.

I agree there’s absolutely no excuse for not having some kind of recognition of Eddie’s passing and contribution to music. When you consider though that Rock has been essentially dead in the mainstream music scene for at least 15 years then it’s not that surprising that Eddie was left out.

You should probably not watch these shows, WangoTango. They aren't about the artists or the music anymore, but about political messages and doctrine.

Oh, I did not watch. Have not in decades. I saw many posts on Twitter pointing out the lack of acknowledgement of the late, great Eddie Van Halen. If there was ever an American Rock star worthy of honor, it's Eddie.

How can they hold award ceremony? Social distancing, no large group gathering. Hello?

Uh....since when is Fiona Apple considered "Rock"?

As for the other nominees, I've never heard of them so I can't comment on those.

I don't recognize a single name, like Panzer, other than Fiona in that list, and she wasn't ever rock.

Fiona Apple is the only name I recognize as well. Could not name one song though. I think she was one of those angry females from the 90's.

I always thought of her as a slightly edgy version of Tori Amos. biggrin

Another one whose name I recognize, but couldn't name a song.
I might sound anti female, but I am not. I loved Dolores O'Riordan from the Cranberries, one of my favorite 90's bands.

I have only heard of Fiona. Who are the others? What do they want?

Oh, I enjoy female singers, but most of the ones I like sing in the retrowave/synthwave/dream pop category, or 60s/70s/80s music. Stevie Nicks voice, for example, will forever be magical.

I like her as well but most people seem to be extremely hot or cold when it comes to her voice. That's what usually happens when a singer has such a distinctive voice. Some will absolutely love it and some will absolutely hate it. biggrin

I loved her in Fleetwood Mac. Can't help but think about the cocaine up the butt legend.

Yeah, some of the wild stories behind Fleetwood Mac are quite interesting but then again most rock bands of that era had "interesting" stuff going on behind the scenes. biggrin
