WoFF without a doubt... WoTR is not getting any love at the moment as the devs are fully concentrating on working on WoFF smile

Hello

I sincerely don't want to seem overly pessimistic, but I'd be very concerned about a system as described being able to run either of the sims (or at least, very well). WOTR is more demanding than WOFF as I understand it, so definitely not a good choice.

But even with WOFF - if I may, the system described is a notebook/laptop, correct? (I say this because an i3-2100 is a mobile CPU, for which I believe there is no desktop equivalent). Even though the 3.1G clock speed technically meets the stated minimum specification of "Intel 3.0 GHz CPU Speed or higher", that's actually a misleading a statement, IMHO. Most laptop CPUs aren't going to run at the rated clock speed, at least not full time, before slowing due to thermal management. OBD states quite clearly on their website:

"Gaming Laptops: Laptops are not supported directly and no refunds can be given if there are any problems running WOFF on a laptop, or a system with non recommended components. Although WOFF will usually work on high specification of Laptop systems, it's not recommended, and we cannot offer support due to their non- standard nature which may have issues."

This would also apply to the (mobile version) GT740 graphics in such a laptop. It's actually a few tiers below the minimum-specified GTX660 (if it were a desktop GT740). Here again, however: Mobile GPUs typically do not perform at the same level as a desktop counterpart with a similar part number; they are usually designed and implemented as to limit heat and power consumption.

You can try it, and it may well run - but I wouldn't be surprised if it runs very poorly, to be honest.

I hope this can be taken objectively. I am offering input as requested, and trying to be as honest as possible. No offense intended.

Ah, my apologies - I stand corrected. That's what I get for being lazy and over-relying on Google biggrin biggrin biggrin I must've typed something wrong - sorry smile

That being said, of course, as I described above: Even the desktop models of those components are rather close to (or below) the stated minimum requirements. The i3-2100 CPU is just at minimum (based strictly on clock speed, which, again, is misleading of itself)...and a GT740 GPU is actually about 2 tiers below the minimum spec GTX660.

As much as it is better that we're not discussing a laptop (my mistake), it doesn't really alter my opinion concerning the performance of the sim(s), I'm afraid. I do believe you may be able to run the sim(s), but not very well.

Again, I hope this is helpful and taken with the same level of objectivity it's being offered biggrin

WOFF will probably run better; WOTR always seems to make my computer work a bit harder.

I concur with kksnowbear that your rig may struggle. Be prepared for the likelihood that the graphic settings etc might have to be turned way down to get smooth game play.

Cheers!

It's the movie splash playing. See the old WOFF UE FAQ (that's available still on the Support page). You may need to disable the splash from playing initially.

"Occasionally WOFF can stop right at the beginning on laptops and Windows 10 if they have a problem playing the basic opening splash movie (OBDSplash.wmv which is a simple Windows media movie file). If you launch and the WOFF menu seems to hang, try renaming OBDSplash.wmv found in C:\OBDSoftware\WOFF\OBDWW1 Over Flanders Fields\campaigns\CampaignData\ShellMusic
Rename it to something like OBD.wav instead and it will be ignored WOFF menu will load."

(edit: Yes ultimately Windows media player needs setting up as catch says and as discussed in the FAQ.)

Or by simply configuring Win10 media player by running it. Win10 is one quirky lady for sure. Anyway, it worked for me after installing WoFF on a new Win10 machine. And of course it's worth reading through the FAQ for directx stuff etc.

When you get this fixed, can you give your opinion on your PC specs verses the game. I'm a huge Flight Simmer as well often playing DCS, WOFF and would love to fly Flight Simulator 2020.

My PC is 8 years old, approaching 9. It handles everything well, but playing Skyrim with modern mods is beating it down...and I doubt it will handle any sort of FS2020 with minor details.

Thanks! I hope you enjoy our sim!

Paul,

No one can directly download WOTR - only its update. The original download link you had would have expired.
You need to contact us on support email and also send your order number. See last page of the WOTR FAQ (Support page) for details.

Do NOT post your order number in the forum!

Once you see this I will move this post to a new post on its own or something. Please don't reopen old threads that are not directly related.
