This post isn't anything official. I just don't want to flood / hijack the WOFF 2020 dev update thread with a bunch of name suggestions, but until the devs do put up an official poll or whatever for a name, I figured we could blow off some steam by posting name ideas here. If you have some new WOFF edition naming ideas, let's hear them. As good a way as any to pass the time until it releases.
I'm kind of partial to WOFF: Winds of War because with all the updates, additions and improvements, it seems like WOFF:WoW would be an appropriate name.

A fine idea Hellshade, but you may have already nailed it with WOFF:WoW!
None-the-less, here we go with a few more.
WOFF: A Gathering of Eagles
WOFF: The Great Air War
WOFF: Tumult In The Sky
WOFF: The Airmen's War
WOFF: The Sky Their Battlefield

Now we’ll have to buy two copies to make it a set.

Oh yes, to be sure Hellshade, we break nice things, or at least severely bend them.. But to the new WOFF release copies and whatever they're titled, I must add: They're real, and they're spectacular.

I wonder if WoW would cause confusion with the old Nexus game "Wings of War" (the original name for Ares Games: Wings of Glory).

Once Lou and our landscape specialists finish with the Italian terrain, I recommend switching over from WOFF to WOOF: Wings Over Obscure Fronts.
WOOF, by Old Brown Dog (Software).

Thanks Todd. Already some good ones here. OK let's make it official, post your name suggestions for the next iteration of WOFF here in the thread, and if we choose one for the next WOFF the person suggesting it will win a copy of the that new WOFF. It will run until we think we have a winner, or ideas fizzle out
If we choose a name based on a name posted here then well give the prize to that person suggesting it. If we chose a name not here then we'll still pick a favourite name from here for the prize. Obviously we won't be able to give the prize until WOFF is released.
After reading some of the notes to be included in the new version maybe it should be, WOFF: Dawn Patrol Or, since there's so much being added, maybe WOFF: Air Marshal Edition.
WoFF: NG (Next Generation) WoFF: Ultimate, Platinum, now Diamond Edition? WoFF: Into the Clouds WoFF: Spinner (Edition) WoFF: Syncronized (Guns) (Edition) WoFF: First Air War (Edition) WoFF: FFoW (Fight, Flee or Win) Edition

Since this thread is now official, I recommend:
Wings Over Flanders Fields (Excelsior Edition - Sparkling Red)
Should be a natural development that way from the Ultimate/Platinum Eds. - Champagne - and keeps us around the vineyard, pruning and tweaking things (a nice metaphor for our hard-working developers at OBD).

Yeeeeeesss !!!!!!! but seriously I am for these books titles like "No parachute (++++),"Flying Fury", "Open Cockpit", Wind in the Wires" , "Combat Report"," Winged Warfare,"" etc.

"Anyone can shoot you down if you don't see him coming but it takes a wonderfully good Hun to bag a Camel if you're expecting him." Tom Cundall.
WOFF: The Deadly Skies WOFF: Our Castles the Clouds (or flip it "The Clouds Our Castles") WOFF: Silken Scarves, Steely Nerves similarly WOFF: Nerves of Steel, Steeds of Canvas (or "Steeds of Canvas, Men of Steel") WOFF: War in the Heavens
"Take the cylinder out of my kidneys, The connecting rod out of my brain, my brain, From out of my arse take the camshaft, And assemble the engine again."
Anticipating the future and taking a page from our DID campaign, I suggest this revision begin with an 'A', the next with a "B', etc, etc.
I'll leave it to more creative minds to come up with the specifics.
We could use plane and/or ace names. This would give enough options to cover most of the alphabet. WOFF: Albatross Edition WOFF: Ball Edition WOFF: Camel Edition etc.
Although now that I write it, it's starting to sound like the Ubuntu naming scheme (Artful Aardvark, Bionic Beaver, ...).
WOFF: Knights of the Sky WOFF: Dueling Skies WOFF: From the Horizons WOFF: The Circus Rolls at Dawn WOFF: Joust of Death WOFF: Winged Warriors WOFF: Hell's Angels (I couldn't resist)

nice ideas! My favorites are "WOFF Diamond Edition" from @Wodin and "WOFF: Exelsior" from @VonS (so far).
My own suggestions: 1. "WOFF: Quantum Leap", because of the many new features and improvements.
2. "WOFF: Iridium", because the actual name "Platinum" is an metallic element and there is a Platinum Group with the elements Ruthenium, Rhodium, Palladium, Osmium and Iridium. And so you can use "Iridium" -or one of the other names- for the new version.
3. "WOFF: Beyond The Horizon (more classic simply)
"Take the cylinder out of my kidneys, The connecting rod out of my brain, my brain, From out of my arse take the camshaft, And assemble the engine again."

It occurs to me, what with the various elements already mentioned in this line of naming, we've been missing the obvious one - WOFF: Upsidaisium Edition
"You have evil plans for moose and squirrel, Boris?"
WOFF: The Subsequent Version Edition for Glorious Flying and Shooting Down Enemy Planes in Cold Blood and Killing Them.
"Take the cylinder out of my kidneys, The connecting rod out of my brain, my brain, From out of my arse take the camshaft, And assemble the engine again."
Firstly and again - thanks to everyone here, developers, modders, posters etc for keeping the evolution of this the greatest ww1 flight sim progressing as it has, and is - collectively we are all very fortunate to enjoy your efforts And have such an open, welcoming and helpful forum.
A few ideas in the spirit of its continual evolution
WOFF - Death’s New Dawn or Death’s Next Dawn or Death’s Dark Dawn
WOFF - Hell on High or Hell in the Heavens or Closer to Heaven
"Take the cylinder out of my kidneys, The connecting rod out of my brain, my brain, From out of my arse take the camshaft, And assemble the engine again."
In light of the fact that the new expansion seems to be adding a lot of immersion from the pilot's view in the cockpit (turning heads, better AI, wind buffeting, improved scenery, etc) and the fact that OFF/WOFF has been improving for well over 10 years now I suggest:

Some more to consider and overload the thought process with, this time incorporating Pol's idea about including "2021" in the title.
WOFF: The Great Air War 2021 WOFF: War in the Air 2021 WOFF: Rise to Glory 2021 WOFF: Between Heaven and Hell 2021 (a nice throwback don't you think) WOFF: Heaven High Hell Deep 2021
And/or simply add "2021" to the following, some of which I mentioned earlier.
WOFF: The Sky Their Battlefield WOFF: A Gathering of Eagles WOFF: The High and the Mighty WOFF: Fire in the Sky WOFF: Endless Flight WOFF: Tumult in the Clouds (Fullofit, this is the 'PG' adjusted version)
You could also place the "2021" ahead of the new title if the flow is better, such as this - WOFF: 2021 Between Heaven and Hell; or as this - WOFF 2021: Heaven High Hell Deep.
From the poem "Wings of the Morning" by F/Lt Jeffery Day, RNAS – WOFF: Wings of the Morning
The poem captures the images and impressions one will get from the next version of this stellar simulation…
On the Wings of the Morning By Jeffery Day
A sudden roar, a mighty rushing sound, A jolt or two, a smoothly sliding rise, A tumbled blur of disappearing ground, And then all sense of motion slowly dies, Quiet and calm, the earth slips past below, As underneath a bridge still waters flow.
My turning wing inclines toward the ground; The ground itself glides up with graceful swing And at lane’s far tip twirls slowly round, Then drops from sight again beneath the wing To slip away serenely as before, A cubist-patterned carpet on the floor.
Hills gently sink and valleys gently fill. The flattened fields grow ludicrously small; Slowly they pass beneath and slower still Until they hardly seem to move at all. Then suddenly they disappear from sight Hidden by fleeting wisps of faded white.
The wing-tips, faint and dripping, dimly show Blurred by the wreaths of mist that intervene. Weird, half-seen shadows flicker to and fro Across the pallid fog-bank’s blinding screen. At last the choking mists release their hold, And all the world is silver, blue and gold.
The air is clear, more clear than sparkling wine; Compared with this wine is a turgid brew. The far horizon makes a clean-cut line Between the silver and depthless blue. Out of the snow-white level reared on high Glittering hills surge up to meet the sky.
Outside the wind screen’s shelter gales may race; But in the seat a cool and gentle breeze Blows steadily upon my grateful face. As I sit motionless and at my ease, Contented just to loiter in the sun And gaze around me till the day is done.
And so I sit half sleeping, half awake, Dreaming a happy dream of golden days Until at last, with a reluctant shake I rouse myself and with lingering gaze At all the splendour of the shining plain Make ready to come down to earth again.
The engine stops; a pleasant silence reigns- Silence, not broken, but intensified By the soft, sleepy wire’ insistent strains, That rise and fall as with a sweeping glide I slither down the well-oiled sides of space, Towards a lower, less enchanted place.
The clouds draw nearer, changing as they come. Now, like a flash, fog grips me by the throat. Down goes the nose: at once the wire’s low hum Begins to rise in volume and in note, Till, as I hurtle from the choking cloud It swells into a scream, high pitched, and loud.
The scattered hues and shades of green and brown Fashion themselves into the land I know, Turning and twisting, as I spiral down Towards the landing-ground; till, skimming low I glide with slackening speed across the ground, And come to rest with lightly grating sound.
This is the only type of poetry I’m allowed to read.
"Take the cylinder out of my kidneys, The connecting rod out of my brain, my brain, From out of my arse take the camshaft, And assemble the engine again."

Pleased to see this thread whizzing along nicely gents’, with stimulating suggestions.
@Raine, I especially like the “Wings of the Morning” idea.
While I’ve already given a suggestion (and thank you Becker for the support regarding “Excelsior Edition - Sparkling Red,” to carry the wine metaphor forward), I was feeling a wee bit eccentric today so I thought of another few possibilities that may come in handy:
WOFF: Linen & Brass Tappets Edition (LABTE)
WOFF: Laminated Propeller Special (LPS)
WOFF: Improved Aerofoil Extravaganza (IAE)
WOFF: Most Intensive Addon and/or Missing in Action (MIA)
WOFF: Extra Horsepower Expansion Pack (EHEP)
WOFF: Thin Moustache Upgrade (TMU)
WOFF: Land of No Return (LONR)
Happy flying, Von S

Here’s another take on the whole naming thing.
Originally our beloved sim was simply called “Over Flanders Fields”. There were numerous tweaks and patches, but it remained OFF until the first major upgrade, “Between Heaven and Hell”. It was then referred to as OFF BHaH, or BHaH for short, (at least by us here in the community), throughout the next batch of tweaks and upgrades. Then came the massive rework that was eventually released as “WINGS: Over Flanders Fields”, and notice the colon as “WINGS” was still considered another version of OFF, in much the same way that BHaH was. Said colon appears to have been dropped from the naming even though “Over Flanders Fields” is still the official product name, at least according to the website address. Now then, what with the various “Editions” that followed, “WINGS” took on more the aspect of a series name rather than just another rework or upgrade name. So, with all this in mind, and given the massive rework we are again about to experience, perhaps it is time for an entirely new series name. Consider the following:
HEROES: Over Flanders Fields BATTLESKIES: Over Flanders Fields WAR CLOUDS: Over Flanders Fields SKY FIGHTERS: Over Flanders Fields WINGED WARFARE: Over Flanders Fields WINGED WARRIORS: Over Flanders Fields SKY WAR: Over Flanders Fields THE GREAT AIR WAR: Over Flanders Fields
etc, etc, etc, ad infinitum
Once you’ve landed, (pun intended), on the new series name you can then add the new “Editions” as they are developed, just as you did with “WINGS”.
In homage to the best novel about air fighting in the Great War, bar none. If you haven’t read it, I very strongly recommend it. Indeed, so did TE Lawrence (“of Arabia”). A semi-autographical account of a Camel pilot in 1918, it vividly describes both life on the ground and action in the air, while dispelling any notions that war is fun without being any sort of pacifist propaganda.
Author Victor Yeates contracted “Flying Sickness D” (TB) during his service, and died in his thirties, so he wrote the book on borrowed time.

I agree Mike, Yeates' masterpiece stands as one of the best of the best of the contemporary WWI works. An absolute "must read". And I happen to own a lovely 1934 1st US edition of it.
WOFF: No Parachutes Edition WOFF: Ace of Aces Edition WOFF: Contact! WOFF: Blip Edition WOFF:Life and Death WOFF: Flamer Edition WOFF: Blue Max Edition

Yes but what about the German Airforce ? By the way, he had the idea to namie his novel "Wingless Victor" ,his first name being Victor, but the editor did not find that very enthousiastic !

Just a thought.
And a good one at that. It also fits with OBD web site URL too.
How about: Aces: Over Flanders Fields Dawn: Over Flanders Fields Battle: Over Flanders Fields War: Over Flanders Fields Scourge: Over Flanders Fields Weapons: Over Flanders Fields Warriors: Over Flanders Fields

LMFAO!!
WOFF: Where Eagles Dare! WOFF: Crimson Skies WOFF: Over The Front WOFF: The Last Knights WOFF: Dawn Patrol WOFF: The Circus Rolls at Dawn WOFF: Jagdstaffel! WOFF: Iron Crosses

Haha if only we had shares in PC companies. Mind you Phase2 was 2006 or something though!
I feel like I remember that you had to have someone make you a copy to get in on Phase 2, and I was going to do that but then Phase 3 was about to come out as a retail product, so I just waited for that. Is that about right? (The way the phases worked, I am aware that no one will remember my internal thought process at this remote distance...) The homage to the autobiographies of those who were actually bloody well there in the suggested names is something I think very worthwhile and honourable to pursue as a theme for future editions.
Maybe it's not marketable but it's meaningful.
So, WOFF: Sagittarius Rising WOFF: I Chose the Sky WOFF: Flying Fury
and all the other like titles previously suggested, i.e. et cetera.
Oh that I was back in the dear old PBI. With no more Triplanes on me tail, nor tracer tracing by. And no more flames and clickerty-clack and no more blooming sky, And only a couple of feet to fall whenever I want to die.
