Having been Refitting at Brest our new home, We are at last ready for the next Patrol.
To BdU: Boat ready to sail by 1800 hrs Sep 14, 1940.
Enroute to Patrol Zone Alarm. Jabos coming down so submerged and stayed under the rest of 17 Sep.
24 Sep: Chased small ship but was give the slip during the night
26 Sep 1940. Decided to try and breech the English channel defenses
27 Sep: Avoided Pinging Destroyer. ( A Type C ) Battery Low will recharge before continuing .
Night of the 29th caught on the surface by MTB and machine gunned. Forced down and escaped.
30th Forced down by Jabo slight damage to Hull 5%. stayed down till night. Surfaced and Spotted a patrolling Destroyer ( Type V or W ) looking for us. Stayed on bottom Silent Routine to Avoid.
Departed during last light for BF 14 Off the Clyde on the approaches to the English Shipping lanes.
Contact: Merchant ( est 7950 Tons ) heading towards Bristol. Submerged when within 5,000 yds and was able to close to 1000 yds . Torpedo's Loose fired 4 fish one or two Hit Breaking the ships back sunk very quickly no survivors spotted .
Arrived at Patrol grid. on the 18th.
