ASUS ROG STRIX Radeon RX 6800 XT With AMD's Big Navi "Navi 21 XT" GPU Reportedly Features Boost Clocks Beyond 2.5 GHz at 290W TGP

ASUS ROG STRIX Radeon RX 6800 XT Custom Graphics Card Reported Clocks:

Average - 2291 / 2289 / 2092 MHz
Median - 2373 / 2301 / 2320 MHz
Max (Boost) - 2556 / 2394 / 2489 MHz

at 255W TGP

Average - 2298 / 1993 MHz
Median - 2357 / 2342 MHz
Max (Boost) - 2509 / 2557 MHz

the drivers had some issues which are why the clock speeds for the custom AMD Radeon RX 6800 XT graphics card are not as consistent as they should be. The large variances in average clock speeds should be resolved by the time the cards hit the market.

More indication that Big Navi may compete well with RTX3080.

Zen 3 CPUs are gaming-optimized, is due to the fact that the upgrade of this new generation is purely focused on reducing inter-core latency, and increasing single-core and single-thread performance.

AMD's Ryzen 9 5950X Shatters PassMark Records

A new king is born.

In comparison to its Intel rival, the Ryzen 9 5950X seemingly delivers up to 16.3% higher single-thread performance than the Core i9-10900K.

Despite being at a two-core disadvantage, the Ryzen 9 5950X's multi-thread performance is apparently faster than the Core i9-10980XE by up to 33.5%.

If Ryzen 5000 (Vermeer) can deliver, Intel could be in big trouble since it's Comet Lake-S army will likely not be able to fend off Zen 3. It looks as though even Intel's upcoming Rocket Lake processors might not be enough.

I'm planning on Ryzen 7 5800X as a "plug in" to my current system.

The AMD Ryzen 7 5800X 8 Core Zen 3 CPU is anticipated to be one of the fastest 8 core gaming CPUs within the Ryzen 5000 family. ... The AMD Ryzen 7 5800X was tested on Gigabyte's B550M AORUS PRO motherboard. The memory was configured at DDR4-2348 MHz & timings were maintained at CL17. A total of 32 GB DDR4 capacity was installed on the platform.

The Ryzen 5000s are to be on sale November 5. We'll get the independent test reports then.

P.S. FWIW: My current R7 3800X scores with entire system running at stock settings and no effort to optimize = 544 single thread, 5732 multi thread.

Regarding the Future of AMD:

AMD in $35 Billion All-Stock Acquisition of Xilinx

The combined $135 billion entity will total 13000 engineers, and expand AMD’s total addressable market to $110 Billion. It is believed that the key reasons for the acquisition lie in Xilinx’s adaptive computing solutions for the data center market.

The press release states that AMD expects to save $300m in synergistic operational efficiencies within 18 months of closing, due to streamlining shared infrastructure. The deal has been unanimously approved by both sets of directors, and is subject to approval of both sets of shareholders. The transaction is expected to close by the end of Calendar Year 2021.

Having watched the RX6000 series reveal:

The RX6800XT seems like the one for most of the serious gamers (basically performs like RTX3080) -- at $650 (cheaper than RTX3080) on November 18th. For FPS fans, the RX6900XT performs better than the RX6800XT -- for almost $1000.

However, that's not based on independent testing. So, we'll see. I'll cut and paste one of the summaries later today.

Sapphire Pulse RX7900XTX, 3 monitors = 23P (1080p) + SAMSUNG 32" Odyssey Neo G7 1000R curve (4K/2160p) + 23P (1080p), AMD R9-7950X (ARCTIC Liquid Freezer II 420), 64GB RAM@6.0GHz, Gigabyte X670E AORUS MASTER MB, (4x M.2 SSD + 2xSSD + 2xHD) = ~52TB storage, EVGA 1600W PSU, Phanteks Enthoo Pro Full Tower, ASUS RT-AX89X 6000Mbps WiFi router, VKB Gladiator WW2 Stick, Pedals, G.Skill RGB KB, AORUS Thunder M7 Mouse, W11 Pro

AMD Unveils Big Navi: RX 6900 XT, RX 6800 XT and RX 6800 Take On Ampere

The Radeon RX 6000 series is much more than a value alternative; AMD plans to go against Nvidia's best and may come out ahead

AMD RX 6000 Key Points

Up to 5120 shader cores in RX 6900 XT, 3840 cores in RX 6800
Maximum boost clocks of 2.1-2.25 GHz
16GB of GDDR6 for the three cards revealed today
128MB Infinity Cache more than doubles effective bandwidth
One Ray Accelerator per CU, 10x speedup for RT calculations
Prices of $999, $649 and $579 for 6900 XT, 6800 XT and 6800
Upcoming FidelityFX enhancements to offer DLSS alternative

Here's the big question, though: If RX 6800 XT is competitive with RTX 3080, wouldn't 11 percent more CUs and shader cores basically put it up against RTX 3090? The answer: Yup.

So, based on AMD tests (not independent), RX6800XT and RTX3080 are competitive -- but RX6800XT costs less; and, RX6900XT is competitive with RTX3090 -- and costs much less.

I'm looking at RX6800XT to go with a Ryzen 7 5800X -- both plug-ins to my existing MB and overall system. We'll see.

I'm also looking at the the RX6800XT or 6900XT to go with a Ryzen 7 5800X.......but want to look at the real 'benefits' of the 'smart memory' function. As a backstop option, I'll plump for the 3900X CPU if there isn't a huge difference between the two for gaming.

No doubt we'll also get ripped off in the UK price wise as the $$$ prices will probably just directly translate into £££s.

AMD's Radeon RX 6000 "RDNA 2" Big Navi GPUs Ray Tracing Performance Explored - 1st Gen AMD Ray Accelerator Cores vs 2nd Gen NVIDIA RT Cores

With hardware acceleration disabled and simply relying on the Software DXR fallback layer, the AMD Radeon RX 6000 graphics card scored 34 FPS. With hardware acceleration enabled & making full use of the newly added Ray Accelerator cores, the AMD Radeon RX 6000 series graphics card saw a 13.8x speedup. The same RDNA 2 graphics card scored 471 FPS in the application which is a huge uplift in performance.

Comparing to NVIDIA's first generation ray-tracing implementation, the GeForce RTX 2080 scores around 308 FPS. This means that the AMD RDNA 2 based Radeon RX 6000 series graphics card scores a 50% lead over NVIDIA's first generation RTX graphics card. The GeForce RTX 2080 Ti scores around 390 FPS which puts the AMD Radeon RX 6000 graphics card 20% ahead.

The article is based on incomplete information and some assumptions. They conclude that AMD 1st Generation ray tracing will be substantially faster than Nvidia 1st Generation ray tracing (i.e. RTX2000 series) -- but not be as quick as Nvidia 2'd Generation ray tracing (i.e. RTX3000 series).

I assume that's true.

Worth noting: Gamers who play at 4K ultra settings usually turn ray tracing off because, using Nvidia RTX2000 series, ray tracing slows things down dramatically -- thereby indirectly limiting practical gaming resolution at high FPS.

Third party testing is needed to see the effect in actual games played at various screen resolutions. Another "We'll see".

AMD's Big Navi Benchmarks: 4K and 1440p Numbers for Radeon RX 6800, 6800 XT, 6900 XT

The chipmaker conducted the tests on a Ryzen 9 5900X processor with 16GB of DDR4-3200 RAM on a X570 reference platform.

It should be noted that AMD enabled Smart Access Memory, a feature that unlocks higher performance on the Radeon RX 6000 when the graphics card is paired with a compatible Ryzen 5000 processor.

AMD should get props for making efforts to create synergy between its processors and best graphics cards.

At 4K, the Radeon RX 6900 XT and the GeForce RTX 3090 ended up in a tie with each graphics card pulling in five wins.

The Radeon RX 6800 XT had a much better showing by outpacing the GeForce RTX 3080 in six titles, while tying the Ampere-based graphics card in Shadow of the Tomb Raider. The Radeon RX 6800 XT isn't just faster than the GeForce RTX 3080, but at $649, it's almost $50 cheaper than its Nvidia rival.

More AMD published data. Cut and pasted because they note this is what you get if you are using a new Ryzen 5000 series CPU. We'll see what independent tests say.

Interestingly, depending on what R5000 CPU one buys, the cost of the AMD CPU plus AMD R6900XT can be about the same or even less than the Nvidia RTX3090 alone.

For the purpose of objectivity, I'm not sure why you think AMD should suddenly get 'props' for making efforts to create synergy between its CPUs and GPUs.......I'm pretty sure you've mocked Nvidia/Intel for creating different synergies with their previous software/hardware implementations over the years?......this 'smart access memory' is nothing more than PCI Mapped Memory and has been in use within different standards across all sorts of other manufacturers under different names and guises (even by MS within their DirectX API). This functionality has been working in Linux for years and in Windows more recently so can only assume that AMD are announcing this as if its a proprietary technology for now until they can validate it works on other vendors hardware.

That was not my statement. I don't know enough of the details to comment like that.

I "cut and pasted" from an article. It was the opinion of the article's author. I thought it would "be controversial". It was smile

My statement was: "More AMD published data. Cut and pasted because they note this is what you get if you are using a new Ryzen 5000 series CPU. We'll see what independent tests say."

One thing they may say is similar to your view smile

AMD Frank Azor promises more details on Radeon RX 6000 ray tracing and super sampling tech before launch

[Regarding Nvidia RTX and DLSS]: ray tracing and AI super sampling (super-resolution), both happening to be the core feature of the GeForce RTX series. NVIDIA RTX and NVIDIA DLSS require game developers’ implementation. More than 2 years from the launch the list of supported games has noticeably grown, but it is still not a significant number.

AMD promised that their implementation of AI super-resolution would be open and cross-platform, so it may rely on DirectX DirectML and possibly offer easier access for developers.

We are yet to see if AMD will implement ray-tracing acceleration and super-resolution technology into its FidelityFX package, or rather wait for market adoption of DirectX DXR and DirectML super-resolution. .. more disclosures regarding [AMD] ray tracing and super-resolution will be made by November 18th (launch of Radeon RX 6000 series)

Futuremark Launches 3DMark DirectX Ray-tracing Benchmark – Evaluates Pure Ray-Tracing Performance For Next-Gen AMD RDNA 2 & NVIDIA Ampere GPUs

The 3DMark DirectX Raytracing benchmark feature test is designed to make ray-tracing the limiting factor. Instead of relying on traditional rendering, the whole scene is ray-traced and drawn in one pass.

The result of the test depends entirely on ray-tracing performance.

Like a lot of you, I have 3DMark software installed. The new feature downloaded today when I opened Steam.

Worth remembering that ray tracing is a small part of a game's graphics. So, pure ray tracing tests may not correlate with overall game graphics performance. Overall FPS performance and "visual splendor" depends on the game and how that game implements all of the various graphics features.

AMD Zen 3 Ryzen 5000 Price, Specs, Release Date, Performance

Early pricing listings, which are not placeholders, indicate that the Ryzen 5000 processors will initially sell at retail for slightly higher pricing than AMD's recommended price points. We've also learned that AMD will throw in a copy of Far Cry 6, at least on a promotional basis, with the shipping processors.

The new Smart Memory Access feature boosts gaming performance by enhancing data transfer performance between the CPU and GPU, but it only works when you pair Radeon RX 6000 graphics cards and Ryzen 5000 processors. That gives the Ryzen 5000 processors the leg up in gaming if you have a Radeon RX 6000 graphics card.

AMD says Zen 3 features a ground-up rethinking of the architecture that finally allows it to take the 1080p gaming performance lead from Intel.

Nominally Thursday November 5. Would be nice to get Far Cry 6 with my R7 5800X -- assuming its a full use free copy. I've gotten a few decent games for free with my AMD hardware buys. We'll see if "list price" holds up on release. -- usually it does for the first batch.

Godfall’s 4K Ultra Textures Require 12GB VRAM on PC, Says Developer

Counterplay CEO Keith Lee made an interesting comment on the required video memory to play at 4K with UltraHD textures.

"At 4K resolution using UltraHD textures, Godfall requires tremendous memory bandwidth to run smoothly. In this intricately detailed scene, we're using 4K by 4K texture sizes and 12 GB of graphics memory to play at 4K resolution."

This could mean that NVIDIA's GeForce RTX 3080, powered by 10 GB of VRAM, may have some issues when playing the game at 4K and Ultra textures. There have been rumors of a 20GB RTX 3080 edition coming from NVIDIA, of course, but last week we learned that those plans may have been canceled.

In playing MSFS2020, I notice the 8GB in my RX5700XT is not enough for 4K at Ultra graphics settings (I get 5 FPS at 4K, 30 to 40FPS at 2K). The MSFS2020 GPU memory requirement has been mentioned in articles.
