eSim Games starts Secondary License offer for Steel Beasts Pro PE
Mountain View, CA, December 18, 2006

Software developer eSim Games, LLC announced today its special holidays offer for private owners of Steel Beasts Pro PE. It's a two-week special offer for all non-army customers

until December 31st, 2006 to order secondary licenses for their existing CodeMeter sticks at just $10.- per additional license. It's an improvement for home users who want to

share the excitement of multiplayer tank action with their friends and family without having to invest the full price for an additional license.

"The Secondary License Program doesn't mean that we're going to ship new CodeMeter sticks," explained Marketing Director Nils Hinrichsen. "We're going to take advantage of the

CodeMeter's option to add more licenses via email update. The easy and safe procedure is described on our home page, and is fairly easy to handle. We ask our customers to

contact us by email. We'll then send out an invoice. You just enter the invoice number at our web shop plus its amount, fill out the normal form sheet, and send us a file for

reprogramming the number of licenses by email. We'll send back an email - double-click the attachment, and you're ready to go."

The intended use of the Secondary Licenses are local area network sessions. Since the Steel Beasts software cannot be executed without a license server active in the network,

the one computer with the CodeMeter stick must be active and running.

How it works

Customers with existing licenses are kindly asked to send an email to Ssnake@eSimGames.com with the subject line "Secondary License Program". Please attach your CodeMeter's Wibu

Control File to it, and rename it to identify that it belongs to you. eSim Games will reply with an email containing a unique invoice number. Use it to identify your order at

eSim Games' web shop and enter the due amount. As once that the transaction has been confirmed, eSim Games will send back the control file with the new amount of licenses.

Details of the procedure can be found in a discussion thread of the official fan site, http://www.SteelBeasts.com.

does this mean that with additional licenses, we can only play in multiplayer mode?

Of course not. Up to the number of licenses stored in the stick can then run Steel Beasts Pro PE simultaneously. Whether they play single player missions independently from each other or together in a network session is up to the guys sitting in front of the computers.

Only as long as the original dongle is still in the 'host' machine.

If that 'host' machine goes offline, the other licenses won't work. At least, that's my understanding of the way it works.

We will give tech support only for (simple) LAN environments. Once that it involves Gateways, Bridges, and/or Routers, you're on your own.

Hey all,

Some quick thoughts. And am no network jockey, so forgive me.

But... Take my case. My brother lives cross town (Seattle). He's borrowed my copy along with dongle to learn the game. Would like play multiplayer with him, but his hauling his desktop over my way is unlikely. Also, if I understand this right, I'd need a a multiplayer license for each player on w/o their own independent copy/dongle.

So, is Ssnake saying we have the go ahead to figure out how to create "virtual Lan" using TCP/IP, etc., or would this be verboten.

I want to support this sim and act in good faith. But...

The system here seams to limit the number of copies to those who know a SBeasts Pro owner willing to provide a license and provide a host machine. This seems by itself to limit the proliferation of copies that could occur.

I would hope/assume that Ssnake would be OK with play with the One or two friends/family willing to learn the game play it and willing to pay for a license if the host gamer is not.

Seems like pretty good intellectual property protection to me.

Anyway, some thoughts on this either from Ssnake or from the techies? The last thing I want to do is take Ssnake/Esim games kind offer and ruin it for future development.

But realistically, how many of us have the LAN in house or ability to host a LAN session? A limited internet option would go along way.

Last question: Are any of you currently using multiplayer within the current games limitations? Do you know another owner or the full game with whom to play multiplayer?

Just my 2 cents/food for thought/need to get flamed off the page and ridiculed by network jockies...

Thanks-

d.

The CodeMeter software cannot discern between TCP/IP packets coming over a LAN or over some other TCP/IP network. So, in principle it is possible. It's just that you're on your own to figure out how it can be done.

The cleanest way would probably be to establish a VPN (Virtual Private Network).

I do.

We have three desktops, and three laptops in general usage at home. Not bad for just me and the wife.

Looks interesting.

I think MajorMagee has the right idea.

Hamachi should work since it has all the characteristics of a native LAN.

Heck, $10 per license and Hamachi is free . . . seems worth a try.

Thanks Ssnake. I don't have a use for it but I must admit that it's a great offer for those that can use it.

Im sold.........I think.......... \:D Say I have 3 PCs but not on any type of network. Other people can only play if I create a network correct? Since they dont have a dongle to use correct?

Thank you for this option Ssnake.
