Did he really run through German lines and back without getting shot or was it made up to make the show more exciting? He actually did that.

This isn't really a Bob Sequel, just another WWII docudrama like it.

I've got a bad feeling about this... lol! You know what flight simmers are like. If it's not accurate down to the last flush rivet there'll be syph on! It's like the PTerry brigade, there is a new Terry Pratchett TV series coming out called The Watch, I've seen a couple of trailers for it and the rage against it is tangible. While not an absolute Pratchett fan I do love his books and find them extremely funny and a wry take on society, the trailers I have seen show that the makers of the series could only have passed a book shop that sold Discworld books but did not actually go in and read one. What I have seen is not even a parody on the Discworld and from what I have read the family of Terry have said it has nothing to do with Terry's books and shares no DNA with them. Yeah it's not just the flight simmers that get riled up when someone takes a cherished story and butchers it Edit: and the trailer is so bad I didn't want to put the news of it up on the forth coming Movies and TV shows thread

Maybe not a coward, but an indecisive leader. The last thing you need when the air is high-velocity lead poisoned.

It's not clear to me yet - is this the same series that follows a B-17 squadron that had a trailer out maybe 4 or 5 years ago? I am super looking forward to it if it is, the B-17 is my fave aircraft. I'd be confused if it is though if they're still casting around for directors for it. Was it shelved or something?

And I do believe that the overly action-packed «trailer» that made the rounds a few years ago was completely unrelated.

Quote, page 23 (paperback) "Conversations with Major Dick Winters":
"Ron Spiers, who took command of Easy Company during the Battle of the Bulge, was an incredibly capable commander. I respected his as a commander, but not as a man. He killed for the effect of killing." - Dick Winters
I think perhaps there's more nuance here. It's been a long while since I read it, but in Winters' own book I don't think he was as blunt. He did say that some of Spiers' actions were unacceptable, and he talks about a time that Spiers shot one of his own sergeants through the forehead for disobeying a direct order. But I do not recall him saying anything about not respecting him, and near the end of the book he talks about attending an Easy Company reunion and calls Spiers one of his buddies. Like the rest of the Easy vets, Winters calls the incident involving the PoWs on D-Day rumors, so even he didn't know if it was true.
No, now go away or I shall taunt you a second time!

Well that is a direct quote and its pretty blunt. The man who wrote the book was one of Winters closest and most trusted friends. In fact Winters put him in charge of dispersing all the profits from his book, he made nothing from it. Nor did the biographer.

I don't doubt it but for whatever reason Winters felt either differently, or felt there was no need to disparage him when he got around to writing his own book. I'm talking about the book Beyond Band of Brothers. Winters did not hold back in his appraisal of Sobel, so I don't think he was looking to spare feelings or to not tarnish reputations. So the absence of anything approaching your quote in his book strikes me as noteworthy.

Actually, this is the same series. HBO opted out of producing it and Apple+ picked it up. https://edition.cnn.com/2019/10/11/...ven-spielberg-tom-hanks-apple/index.html"After careful consideration, HBO decided not to move forward with 'Masters of the Air.' We look forward to our next collaboration with Playtone and Amblin," HBO said in a statement to CNN. (HBO, like CNN, is owned by WarnerMedia.)
