A couple of days back the French Alps got hit by the heaviest storm in living memory. The worst damages hit right in the valley where I have been restoring my good old chalet :-/ Haven’t been back in a year. Work, Covid and whatnots kept me away. The villages of Saint-Martin and Lantosque are now entirely cut-off. Bridges down and roads washed away. Water and supplies need to be brought in by heli.
Was not too worried about the raging waters, the chalet is built high above the river, but landslides were on my mind. Managed to call a neighbour in the village to check out the chalet, all good. I like to think my “holidays” spent reinforcing century-old retaining walls in the fields, redoing the roof and planting trees everywhere have probably paid off. So many mates (and The Queen-Who-Knows-Best) called me crazy, suggesting Bali or Thailand as a destination. Glad I didn’t listen every time.
Dramatic footages. I know the place by heart, hard to watch and hard to believe.
My thoughts are with the folks up there, not much else I can do out of Hong Kong... Year 2020 sucks big time and Mother Nature is a b§#&*tch.

Wow! That is life changing stuff for a lot of those people.
Water is relentless.
Most of the time, you can rebuild from a fire or wind damage. Water takes the very land you built on away.
