Well, it's quite likely that we will see at least a Centauro at some point during 2007. That should give you at least something similar as far as operational mobility and tactical firepower is concerned. Nevertheless, the isolated addition of Stryker family vehicles seems to be of questionable value to me as it isn't accompanied with the additional reconnaissance assets that the Stryker Brigade is supposed to have, and which is deemed an essential combat multiplier.

You sort of lost me with that statement Ssnake, what are you talking about?

As far as I understand, the Stryker concept is based on superior tactical awareness - the battlefield management system, the significant reliance on UAV and other reconnaissance systems (including OH-58) - in order to avoid confrontations with forces that it cannot handle, e.g. a prepared and attacking heavy tank battalion or so.

Without these assets Stryker forces can pick fights of their choosing less often than they are supposed to do in real life; they will inevitably suffer higher casualty rates than they would in real life - in other words, the (constructive) simulation would yield unrealistic results.

We do incorporate the latest in tactical and situational awareness. Not only do we incorporate FBCB2 (think tactical wireless internet)which shows not only whose on your left, right front and rear as far as BLUEFOR but also displays routes, imagery, REDFOR and obstacles. Gone are the days of maps and laminate overlays, here today is a display with all tactical control measures marked on a moving real time display.

We also have an UAV platoon as part of our Brigade, whose imagery can also be sent to us, real time. We are also incorporating an OH58D company as an organic asset as well.

The bottom line is we do possess the superior tactical awareness that not only enables our brigade to fight a deep fight, but to see and manuever to a more favorable vantage point on the battlefield. Each time any of the brigades has done an NTC/JRTC rotation, we overwhelm the OPFOR and accomplish the mission with historically low casualties and equipment loss.

What happens to those displays when you loose battery or electrical power. What then?

SgtSnorkle, wasn't implying we still do not use maps and laminate, just have a much more capable system then I believe Ssnake is giving us credit for. It is truly an awesome sight, to see companies, in real time, merge on a contact, without tons of radio traffic or even stopping to check your map and compass.

I always wondered what the Nato symbology for the gynocological inspection troop or the graves registration detail would look like. \:D

acually i think Ssnake was giving Styker Bde's that credit, and commenting to the fact it could not be simulated to the level of accuracy required in the current framework of the simulation - thereby the Strykers would suffer more than realistic damage/casualties than they would in RL - and that would defeat the purpose of having them included at this point.

Sorry if I seemed a bit defensive. I've gotten into a few threads over the teething years of the Stryker and now, after serving 5 years with 2 of the brigades, I am seeing the vehicle growing into a superb platform. So, I apologize for the defensive personality.

I am still waiting whole heartedly for the upcoming update though, as is everyone else and look forward to watching this product develop and mature as well. Great work with everything so far Ssnake and community.

In fairness, my M1A1 had the same thing retrofitted to it.

Best damned thing since sliced bread, (Mainly because of the "You are here" icon on the satellite picture) but not the exclusive purview of the Strykers.

Out of interest, who updates your RedFor icons? I know it's theoretically possible for the spotting unit to do it, but we found it was a lot quicker just to radio the grid, and the guys at the TOC would go through the steps to put the contact report on the map.

I'm sure it'll filter down to your crowd as well, but our tank company MTOE includes a UAV. I was very surprised to see it.
