Well, maybe because the only thing that has been true about the models so far is that they are wrong.

Good! Make a vaccine and the whole world can return to normal. No more masks. No more social distancing. Businesses can reopen. Billions of people worldwide can go back to work and don't have to worry about not being able to pay rent and put food on the table. https://nypost.com/2020/09/14/scien...utralizes-virus-that-causes-coronavirus/

I am nothing but confused by the Australian Government's attitude towards COVID-19 re; overseas travel.

So, in South Australia, they are going to be accepting overseas students from China. Strange, in that the virus came from there.

Earlier this year, I put in an application to travel to the Philippines to see my daughter. I missed her birthday because COVID came just before it. At the moment, the Filipino government has a process where you are tested upon arrival, and put into a state sponsored hotel quarantine for 3 days until your results come through. If you are virus free, you are clear to go about your day.

I registered an application to leave in December, so that I can at least see my daughter for Christmas. Declined for no reason. I made a promise that I would go through any quarantine measures in Australia, at my own cost, upon my return. No dice. I have emailed 4 government ministers, explaining in detail how I have now not seen Elise for 19 months, and that she lives in a region where there are constant cell and power blackouts. Once again, not a single reply or acknowledgement. Current rumor is that the government 'might' allow us to fly internationally in January. Crazy. On flighttracker I have seen flight from China going into Melbourne every day. Nothing gets said about that. And they ARE pax, not freight. The leader of my state (W.A) only want to allow I think 53 Australians to return home every week. That is Australians who are stranded in other countries I might add. And that is without the airlines gouging us on ticket prices.

I hope I don't offend AJAY, but the day I leave, I will be handing in my Australian passport and citizenship. I don't want it any more. This is not my idea of freedom. I still have my British citizenship anyway, but I do intend to try to set up a small business in the Phil.

I posted this because Australians have a tendency to boast about how good this country is. Not under our current dictatorship it is not.

Sorry for the rant. I'm really depressed.

Kindest regards,

AJ

FishTaco, that sucks, to be sure.

(Everyone) Let's not go any further down the "dictatorship" line of discussion. We are trying to let this thread remain in Community Hall, instead of moving it to PWEC.

Thanks.

In one of the more "scientific" polls I have seen wink , Univision is asking if you have died from the Coronavirus. yep

https://thefederalist.com/2020/09/2...ow-have-you-died-because-of-coronavirus/

So, to AGAIN answer the OP's question:

More than 6 months later my answer is yes. Two people. They are both their 60's. One recovered at home ( healthy guy), the other, a serious drinker, spent a couple of weeks in ICU but is out and is doing great now.

I do have sympathy for those that have lost loved ones, I guess myself and everyone I know is really lucky.

I know six folks who have had covid...

Two in their 60s were sick for a week and spent most of that time in bed. One of the two lives with his wife and son and neither caught the virus from him.

Two in their 60s were sick for a day or two, then were fine.

One in his early 70s had no symptoms at all. I suspect in his case it was a false positive or he had it months earlier.

One in his 40s who did not survive.

Ages 0-19: 99.997%
Ages 20-49: 99.98%
Ages 50-69: 99.5%
Ages 70+: 94.6%

And we have numerous states still locked down, newsies freaking out about the second coming of the virus, and many government workers still deemed too important to mingle with mere citizens....the VA, and in Florida even the Lottery offices are closed to the public! Bar's and all food places wide open, but the "highly important" lottery workers are still hiding under their desks, along with thousands of other government workers.

The wussification continues...

Aren't lottery offices closed because they are deemed inessential?

The move is to protect lottery employees and players from the virus, according to the Florida Lottery.

“The Florida Lottery temporarily closed its Headquarters and district offices to the public to minimize exposure to COVID-19, and to help protect our visitors and employees,” Florida Lottery spokeswoman Keri Nucatola said in a statement.

That's from late MARCH! They are still not all the way open. Government offices everywhere closed to public. Teachers who won't teach kids in classrooms...

17 yr old kids in grocery stores, working throughout this, are far braver than many adult "public servants".

I wonder if they have stayed away from grocery stores and drugstores throughout the scamdemic?

We have a term in Australia called "winging pom", no it's not me. It refers to people who regard their Australian citizenship lightly, and tending to compare adversely Australian conditions with those of their country of origin or others. The reaction of Australians is usually "please go back". Yep I'm a dual cltizen but identify completely with my adopted country, Australia.

Just saying...we're doing better than most countries in this pandemic. EDIT Setting the record straight, not looking for a political discussion in which my country cops unfair criticism.

So that works out to a roughly 0.7% IFR, assuming an even infection rate across age demographics

A Stanford study of dialysis patients, when standardized across the population, suggested that 9.3% of the US population (30,165,000) had had the Chinese virus as of July. Based on the number of fatalities recorded through the second week of Aug, that would put the IFR closer to 0.6%.

Annual medicals finished (topped off today with a new molar crown as my dermatology snips heal), now getting antsy for a quick road trip to some quiet secluded bed and breakfast. Looking over options.

Not sure when (if ever) I'll be getting back to local Rock venues, but thinking about our next big road trip...

^ My on-topic point was, finally getting out and about feels good! smile

Have noticed at places other than healthcare facilities where masks aren't mandatory/enforced (like rural auto mechanic shop for overdue inspection sticker) that mask wearing seems to be mostly divided by race (and assuming politics). Although everyone is still their usual nice and polite, very good to see.

EDIT: Oh yeah, and the general population is now noticeably bigger than ever! eek

EMA starts first rolling review of a COVID-19 vaccine in the EU.
Hope they succeed with it so we can get closer to a normal life. :-)

He tested positive.

We'll have to wait and see if he becomes infected.
