Was it my imagination or were my flight signalling "enemy sighted" with their strange waggling and maneuvering?

Here was the situation: Line patrol. 6 ship flight in a 2 vic formation. The two left-most planes were waggling about and flying in small S curves. After 15 seconds of this they peeled away left. This behavior may have been going on for longer, but I only watched them for the last 15 seconds before they left the formation. I turned the flight in that direction to find the two fighting a bold and ultimately doomed single Albatros. He was too keen, poor devil.

I suspect this was a quirk of the AI but it was incredibly cool.

Would love to see such behavior formalized in game, or flight mates pulling alongside the leader to alert him to enemy nearby, or some kind "Hey, I'm leaving the formation," signal. I mean, how hard could that be to code? duck

What you’ve described is what I experience while flying very slowly behind the observation machines. The wingmen can’t stay in formation and start to weave, then they fly in front of you and circle back. Maybe it was a coincidence that while circling back they were caught in a bounce?

I suspect you're correct. It wasn't an escort mission but I had throttled way back to cool the Hispano and forestall the rash of engine failures plaguing 56 at the moment.

That definitely explains it.

Rick, be sure!

wing waggle - sounds like an old, established distiller of fine single-malt scotch. Barkeep, two fingers of your Wingwaggle 12-year, neat.

Three RFC Brass Hats were strolling down a street in London. Two walked into a bar, the third one ducked.

I'm wondering if the "Wing Waggle" is the name of the bourbon or whiskey-based cocktail.

Before there was "Sex on the Beach" or a "Fuzzy Navel Shooter" there was "Blue Light Surprise," and "Sizzle, Sizzle, Wonk!"

Don't forget about the "French 75", or the "Sidecar".

Ah there’s the cricket bat..very nice Lou. Much frivolity has been had with said cricket bat! It is nicely worn with many a battle scar! May it be brandished again should there be another bash in the pilots lounge! Cheers!
