I'm re-watching "The Death of Stalin" on Netflix, its simultaneously amazingly funny and horrifying all at the same time.
Needless to say, it should have won every oscar and is one of my favorite movies.
Just saw it for the first time the other day and I completely agree.
My first time watching about year ago, thought it was different to add comedy to it. But I liked it.
The crazy thing is that it totally captures the banality of communism. The humor is all because the situation is so freaking funny. For example, Molotov being unsure whether he should still believe his wife was a traitor after she's released or not. Or the fact they can't find a doctor because Stalin purged them all.
As I watched the movie the first time I kept saying "oh, that didn't happen", then I'd look it up and I'd be like. Oh... that actually happened. It really makes the movie. Also, Jason Isaacs as Marshal Zhukov is a completely inspired choice (despite the weird yorkshire accent) as he completely captures the absolute brashness of the great war hero (and later butcher of Hungary). Simon Beale is also amazingly spooky as the terrifying Beria.
The word "Martyr" is just a fancy name for "crappy fighter".

That does it, time to add it my Netflix watch list again.
Maybe I need to read The Dune book? Will the new one be clearer? How about the cable TV version?

We try to watch this. What a sheety movie.A France movie The Mansion https://www.imdb.com/title/tt7029854/ It says it's a comedy horror. It was? Cos it was not funny or scary. The characters and what they were saying were annoying. https://www.netflix.com/title/80992365 Turn it off. What I like about Netflix and Amazon PRIME is you pay one monthly price and you can watch as much as you want.

The same fundamental problem that affected the Lynch Dune film will also affect this new film coming in December. If you have not read the book, there is really no way to fully explain the story sufficiently in a 2 or 2.5 hour time period. You will definitely end up with many confused viewers.
But in addition to that, the surreal aspects added by Lynch to his version of Dune also confused many viewers at the time. For me personally though, I absolutely loved the surrealism he added.
The bottom line is that the best way to fully explain and portray the story of Dune is as a mini-series because then you have several hours to work with instead of just 2 or 3.

I have not watched it but did they end up explaining it any better in 4 1/2 hrs in the mini-series?

Yes, they most definitely did. The mini-series was very faithful to the novel.
The main problem with the Sci-Fi Channel miniseries is that it was quite apparent that it was made with a very limited budget. Many of the sets and costumes looked cheap and most of the cast was mediocre and forgettable.

Yup! Dune, Dune Messiah and Children of Dune is the absolute best trilogy made by Frank Herbert.
I enjoyed God Emperor of Dune, Heretics of Dune and Chapterhouse Dune as well when I read them but that trilogy is nowhere near as compelling as the previous one in my opinion.

VERY VERY SAD! Did the people who caused this, were they ever punished, put in prison?"
Prison?
Space is dangerous. Faulty o-rings caused the disaster, and flaws in material such as this happen with our pursuit of space. They failed because of unusually cold weather that exceeded their operational tolerances. How can you prosecute someone for this when it was not intentional? We aren't a dictatorial regime.
Most of us on SimHQ probably watched the launch and subsequent explosion live on television when it happened, and it was one of the saddest, most shocking moments that we'll remember.

Remember that day well. Was working for an landscape company driving a front end loader. Very cold, even in upstate SC. I burned the back of my pants that morning warming myself by the office stove. We took a break at lunch time, had not been listening to radio or anything like that, when the boss came pulling up and told us what happened. Huge shock.

The idiots in charge were warned many times about it by the engineers and technicians and they ignore it. How many times we seen this? People in charge thinking they know better and will not listen to their people and deaths happened. It's the same with the 737 now. People in charge did not listen because hey, we are in charge, and because we are in charge, we are never wrong and we never make mistakes.
Just watch The Birds. The 2 women in this movie are dumb and annoying. The mother and the lady. Go open a door to the room to see if there are birds in it and when you do see there are birds in it while still standing in the ajar doorway, take one step into the room instead of taking step back, closing the door and run. Also the son is very strange. Who calls their mother darling and dear?
Also watch Vertigo, overrated boring movie and the guy is a stalker and watch Rear Window, a good movie, can't believe that whole apartments and buildings were studio set.
Quote
The entire movie was shot on one set, which required months of planning and construction. The apartment-courtyard set measured ninety-eight feet wide, one hundred eighty-five feet long, and forty feet high, and consisted of thirty-one apartments, eight of which were completely furnished. The courtyard was set twenty to thirty feet below stage level, and some of the buildings were the equivalent of five or six stories high.
This movie was shot on a specially constructed set that took fifty men two months to build, and cost somewhere between $75,000 and $100,000. In order to get the scale right, the soundstage floor had to be removed so the courtyard could be built in a former storage space in the basement. Therefore, Stewart's apartment, which appears to be on the second floor, was actually at street level. The set included thirty-one apartments, of which twelve were fully furnished. The whole thing became a marvel that visitors to the studio were eager to see, and it was featured in magazine spreads while shooting was still in progress.
Grace Kelly is beautiful and classy. What other movie of her is worth watching? Why women are not like that today.

Another of those days you knew exactly where you were when it happened. I had just gone into the local video shop to have a chat with the owner, and he had the launch on TV was quite the shock to see it.

They never said why those birds were attacking people. I think they were mad at the lady for buying 2 lovebirds and carrying them around in a little cage.
