I noticed when, someone suggests something on the ED forum that questions the way things are done, it seems to evoke an immediately hostile response, almost in an attempt to goad the OP!

If the OP takes the bait and nonsense banter commences the thread is quickly closed!

This hasnt happened to me, but its a seems hostility is tolerated when it serves to precipitate banter leading to a shut down of unpleasant concepts or opinions.

Anyone else notice this mo over there?

I have noticed a few posts getting deleted as of late. It's really not worth the effort to say anything in that group especially anything that can be construed as negative by the Fan Boy Posse. Some of the threads are just comical like the elitist auto start thread and there's always the "I know every detail of - Insert Aircraft Here -.

This thread is a good example

https://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=285619

With the admins final comment

"This pretty much seems to be going the way of its Hoggit twin, so locking this, even though I really wanted to know what milkojohns wanted to say, or if his keyboard survived."

milkojohns was the individual who trolled the initial post, and provoked the nonsense banter.

Hmmmmmm.........

There was only 16 squadrons of RAF fighters that used 100 octane during the BoB.
The Fw190A could not fly with the outer cannon removed.
There was no Fw190A-8s flying with the JGs in 1945.

What I dont understand is why people dont accept other peoples opinions but respond with either bashing or trading nonsensical Insults.

This is so childish. Ok to disagree and voice disagreement but attempt to put your point of view across.

If everyone, behaved in this manner a forum would become a waste of time. I believe this is where forum administrators should step in and block people from being obviously non-constructive before a thread descends into childish gibberish.

Hmmm you seemed to have had opportunity to engage in productive conversation about this issue with NineLine

But this comment seems more challenging and conversation ending than anything else

Apparently a couple things need to be pointed out.

1. Ninelines is a member here. As such, stop mangling his name.

2. Ninelines is free to post here, or refrain from it if he chooses, just like the other members, as long as he abides by the rules.

If folks want to discuss how the forums of a software publisher operate, that is fair game as it is part of their marketing and tech support. If somebody from the publisher chooses to post here, they are free to address the issues, or to refrain from commenting upon them.

Members are free to address the content of the posts from other members. Refrain from characterizing the authors, and stick to addressing the content.

In most cases we do our best to leave a thread open, if it seems like the only attraction a thread is getting is negativity in either way, we will step in. We have tried to do less deleting and letting conversations stay unless they get way out of hand. Even in closing a thread we let the OP stay, but close it for it not to drift further into the depths of the internet. Its never going to be a perfect solution for everyone, so we simply try to do our best to let opinions and concerns stay.

I don't go on the forums over at DCS a lot, but when I do, I never have a problem... that said, if a thread starts to go downhill then the moderators have to do something.
I guess when you have been dealing with negativity for months on end it gets tiresome.
I did a bit of moderating years ago on one of the IL2 modding sites... after a while I decided to step back from it as all I wanted to do was meet some of the morons that I had to deal with and smash their face against a wall... ''time to leave said Zebadee''...

I don't visit the DCS forum much either, but I do see a problem in the example thread posted above. The original poster had some legitimate gripes (and some not so legitimate ones) but the thread was ruined by the obvious trolling of "milkojohns". Why close the thread instead of admonishing or removing the troll? Instead NineLine actually seemed to encourage the troll by jokingly referencing his trolling comments. That is poor moderation.

I would agree with everything that F4UDash4 said.

If this is the best you can do as a moderator to control “trolls” it doesnt say much for DCS forum moderation.

DCS forum like all fora have rules, but moderator(s) choose when they to enforce them when it suits their interest, and worse to encourage trolling behavior which is supposedly against their own rules.
