Hi,

I have just bought a book from Amazon called Khaki & Scarlet, written in 1930 by T B Marson, who was the recording officer for 56 squadron. The following is a description of the book taken from another website:

Marson had an exceptional (and dangerous) military career. He first served in 1899 in the Leicester Yeomanry in the South African (Boer) War with the 7th (1st Leics, Yeo.) Coy,4th Battalion I.Y., returned to England and took up fox-hunting by horse back. After the Great War started, he joined the army again, trained in Egypt, and fought at Gallipoli, where he lost a leg. He was then seconded to the Royal Flying Corps, where he served as squadron adjutant for 56 Squadron. Not a flyer himself, he observed and admired the many airmen with whom he was associated, and gives detailed accounts of several men in the squadron, Albert Ball and James McCudden, among others. The book concludes with excerpts from the squadron's log about missions and aerial combats.

It should be an interesting read, and only cost £28.80 (including £2.80 shipping) from Amazon.

Has anyone else read this book, and if so what are you thoughts on it?

Rugbyfan, I read it (Scarlet and Khaki, btw), years ago and do recall that I enjoyed it, but honestly don't remember any particulars about it at the moment. Of course now that you've brought it up I will have to scrounge a copy and reread it. smile2

Cheers,

Lou

Rugbyfan,

I was just contemplating the same purchase since my DID character is with 56 now. To be honest I thought I had bought it but apparently not.
So many books with this expensive new hobby, one loses track. Maybe that's age. Anyway, your precis has my attention so I think I shall go hunting a copy.

Thanks for the reminder,

E
