^ They were initially thought as passenger and transport planes, the first versions only had one engine.
But as soon as the RLM ("Reichluftfahrtministerium" for lack of a longer word
) intervened it was built for all purposes, e.g. with a removable upper hull plate to install an MG, or some exchangeable metal box at the belly to be removed, and the space used for bombs. I think the only time 52s were used as bombers was during the spanish civil war (?).
What i find interesting is the big "trimming" wheel at the right side of the pilot (from 12:12 on), to adjust the "Hilfsflügel" adding to lift or helping as flaps, while the outer parts also being used as ailerons. There is even a kind of clutch to couple the elevator to it. Seems strange but helped to land the bird almost by itself, when cutting the throttle.
