I just started this fascinating book by Max Arthur 'Forgotten Voices Of The Great War'.

Interesting and often harrowing accounts of trench warfare from all sides including civilian.

My Grandad was at Gallipoli in June 1915. The accounts from the soldiers who fought there were quite harrowing although they seemed to have a lot of respect for the Turks as fighting men.

He survived the war but 3 of his brothers did not (2 natural,1 adopted). Reading what these men went through is horrific at times,it's no wonder he never talked about his experiences.

Sounds good. Watched 1917 the other day- simple almost cliche story (2.5 hour version of Mel Gibson's run at the end of Gallipoli) but camera work was fantastic, really pulled you in.

Looking in retrospect, what made "1917" a box office hit was indeed the unique way in which the film was shot. Had this been done conventionally like prior films set in WW1 the film would have been largely ignored.
