Bad JuJu cometh.

A back to back, double whammy of tropical badness is heading for the coast. Lafourche and Terrebonne parishs have both been hit particulary hard by the ChiCom flu, as there are lots of overweight, diabetic people there. It looks like, as of now, that both storms will hit them HARD.

Rita in 2005 put most of those two parrishes under a lot of water, as in many feet of water. That was a couple of weeks after Katrina. These two won't be more than a day or two apart...so far.

Be careful you folks, especially MarkG, he's pretty far inland, just no idea how flood prone he is.

Glad I am not there...

Did New Orleans ever improve their flood control system making them higher after Katrina or did they only repair the damage broken ones?

Yeah, they spent gazillions, including what the then mayor stole and was sent to prison for. yep

So far looks good for NOLA. from Grand Isle west, not so good. Smart guys on a couple hurricane places I follow are saying to not trust the cone for Laura, for many reasons including the Kobayashi Maru effect, where they tend to rotate counter-clockwise around a common center, then go their separate ways. RTFM

Seriously, again, I am really glad I am not in the path of that mess. Kobayashi Maru wink or Fujiwara won't matter. Lots of wind, water and rain...and no power for too long in oppressive heat.

I think I may have to turn in my unofficial Hurricane watcher card, Marco really fooled me.

I watched in amazement yesterday as the wind shear took the NE quadrant of a strong tropical storm and blew it into one big rain band streching at one time from the MS coast to the SC/NC border on the coast!

THAT I have never seen in over 50 years of seriously watching, living thru and running from tropical cyclones.

Laura still trying to break bad for LA and TX.

Marco really fizzled. Rain event.

Laura ain't fizzling...

She is looking like Rita on steroids! NHS now predicting storms surges of 15' to 20' and going up to 30 miles inland! Put 20' waves on top of that on the coast and you have a nighmare, albeit short lived, for anyone foolish enough to still be there.

If you live in TX, LA, AL, AR, MS, FL, whether directly affected by the storm or not, you might wanna fill your gas tank at least.

Prolly 90% of the GOM oilfields are shut in for now and expect serious destruction/damages, plus all those refineries in the path of Laura add up to price increase at best.

Just filled mine, price still the same here, $2.05, but I doubt it will stay there long.

Unless the projected path radically changes I'd say FL dodged this bullet entirely,

Bah, can't concentrate now, so 'class' dismissed for the next...24 hours(?). May as well post on SimHQ...

Wind is picking up enough that I'm about to go unhook my porch swings and flip my rockers. We're on the projected outskirts (Ethel, LA) so it shouldn't get bad here.

I kinda got this thing for nasty weather, so my biggest preparation was leaving my house yesterday for the first time in months and getting a dental cleaning. biggrin Now I just have to charge the players and speakers in case we lose power, make an appropriate playlist and I'm ready!

Best line from the news this afternoon..

"if you live in the in these storm surge areas, you are about to become one with the ocean and it is not survivable."

Hopefully that sent a few last minute idiots scrambling.

And yeah, 2020 certainly hasn't been a banner year.

Nice one [song], Nixer. thumbsup

Just got a quick squall preview, now totally calm. Hard heavy rain knocked out satellite (TV and Internet) and lights blinked. Generators on stand-by.

Surprised me because we're pretty far from it, but this is a huge storm. Maybe my last posting window until it's over.

Hopefully the last minute idiots just keep removing themselves from the gene pool like they've been doing with regards to the OTHER natural disaster lately...

My genuine condolences though to the people who for whatever reasons don't have the ability to "just get up and leave". (Well and also to those who can - a lot of people are going to lose houses, businesses, etc).

If my house burned down I have people I could stay with. If a huge chunk of my state went down I'd be in real trouble. Could conceivably relocate to a few other states via family and friends, but I'd be temporarily homeless for sure...

Keep us posted as long as you can Mark.

I couldn't believe the video I saw earlier of S. Leeville, LA, which is about 6 miles as the pelican flys inland from the gulf, having about 4 feet+ of water at around noontime today!

Bad JuJu...

I heard they sent two C-130 to evacuate about 80 people in Texas coastal town who had no way out.
