So sept 1st Crusader Kings III is coming out, and I've been watching the Dev Diaries and several sponsored videos with various scenarios.

I have to say this is looking like a much better game than Imperator: Rome is, even if it's not yet independent reviews out.
But the system, the mechanics, the level of micromanagement as such looks much better than I:R and EU4 (one of my biggest hates of EU4 is the development part, ugh!).

So we'll see next week how it is.

We'll see. I like CK II, even if I prefer EU IV, and they could hardly fail to release a better game than Imperator lol.

But Paradox for me has lost much of their luster, through botched bare-bones releases, and their objectionable DLC policy. I see CK III as their chance to buck that trend and return to the top of the genre. Will they? Soon enough we will know.

No, now go away or I shall taunt you a second time!

Imperator Rome was indeed quite terrible on release but it’s been significantly improved with the follow up patches. It’s still not where it needs to be though but Paradox is still supporting the game with future updates. I even have over 100 logged hours in the game now so the improvements at least for me have been significant.

Started my first game as the county of Vestfold (Oslo-region of Norway).

Start in 867 (Wrath of the Northmen).

By 915 I've managed to form the Kingdom of Norway, and started to grab parts of England. I'm pondering if I should try for the decision to recreate the Kingdom of Danelaw in England.

But the first goal since I have a new monarch is to subjegate Sweden, as you can only do it once per lifetime.

So it seems you are enjoying Crusader Kings III so far? Maybe you should have gone outside your comfort zone and picked a monarchy somewhere in Eastern Europe to play as? biggrin

After some playing I love this new game. smile

Biggest change from CK2 is that the AI now is much more agressive! I've had the AI attack me while I've been busy with another war, and as you can see from the latter map it is very agressively expanding all over the place.

Should be racking up tons of hours in this in the future biggrin

I'd rather start playing with a fun setting for me to learn the ins and outs of the system.

Much easier to build stuff now, easier to see what the benefit is.
I love the new lifestyle system.
Army system is very nice as well. Champions/knights are brutal.

You get tons of causus belli easily now, via visitors and such
The new advisor feature is great.

Just a heads up that if you have the XBOX Ultimate Gamepass you also get the PC Gamepass which includes Crusader Kings 3

One day the West will fall. But if the Liberty for which we fight is taken up by the world then the West will not have failed.

Empire of Scandinavia formed.

[Linked Image]
The holdings in Spain (and one in Italy, the light blue spot to the NE) are all conquered by vassals, I was busy taking all of Scandinavia so I could form the Empire.
Norse kingdoms usually have elective monarchies, which means when you gather several crowns it is very hard to keep them together.

The de Jure kingdoms in the Scandinavian Empire now are:
  • Galicia
  • Norway
  • Sweden
  • Lapland
  • Finland
  • England
  • Denmark

I have not tried playing a sneaky/diplomatic playstyle. So far it's been 100% martial/war focus. smile
I also left the decision planel open.

You can see I've gotten a "Dismantle the Papacy" decision which isn't doable yet. This is because I am a non-christian religion holding territory in Italy. In order to complete this I must conquer all of Italy.
Before I had that small Italian holding, this decision was not on my list.
LIkewise the "Restore the Danelaw" is because I am a norse character.

The Alban remains in Scandinavia are actually what was left of Sweden after I conquered the Kingdom of Sweden (which gave me all the swedish de jure holdings, not the foreign ones).
Sweden at that time also held Ireland and it's spanish holdings (and others dotted around Europe except Scotland).
Once I usurped the Swedish Kingdom title, what was left of Sweden became Ireland. And then Alba subjegated Ireland biggrin

And the reason Moldava holds part of Norway and Ireland is because they are titles that passed out of my Empire when their holder died frown

I must reconquer those!
