Real quick... I see Wango Tango is reading this in the Who's Online thing. I discovered how to compare our stats since we are steam friends, and I saw you have shot 54! I was bragging about my 55 but you've gone one better

Hey Bong, sorry I missed your post, didn't think anyone would reply to a golf game thread haha. It's a fun game, making that switch to a different controller has done wonders. Still hard to believe what a massive improvement it has been. Got my second hole in one, and now routinely shoot in the 50s as long as the wind isn't blowing too much. I've played through to near the end of my second season on Tour, and have won every tournament in this season. I play on Pro, swing timing off, with unlimited putt preview. I've had plenty of luck reading greens in other golf games, but this one not so much, so the putt preview helps a lot, too much really. You can't shoot in the 50s without putting great. I usually don't want to be running away with it, but it's so much fun to make a lot of birdies Without the preview I sometimes read the break as the opposite of what it is. With it that's not a problem. I think I'd have trouble breaking 70 without it. I've got a Thrustmaster XBox controller and it is really tight but I find that I have to adjust how I hold it to get the straight blue line. I also find that with a little practice I can shape my shot without using the Draw/Fade controls unless I'm really trying to bend it around a tree or something.

To each their own of course but PC golf games are right up there with "Farm Simulator" and "City Bus Driver Simulator" in the snooze department. I love the game of golf, and this one is the best I've played on PC. I often talk about how Apache by DI was my first ever sim, but my first ever PC game was a golf game, Links 386. Yes a 386! It came on like a hundred floppies. I've played most them that have come down the pike and PGA Tour 2K21 is my favorite. It's really good. I can't stand the commentating though and turned that off. The play by play guy is OK, but the color analyst is auditory pollution and just shut the fook up, man. So yeah, I turned that off and it's so nice and peaceful. Polite applause, birds chirping, the whack of the clubface, the rattle when the balls tips in to the hole, the collective groan when it lips out. I've got a Thrustmaster XBox controller and it is really tight but I find that I have to adjust how I hold it to get the straight blue line. Both of the ones I'm talking about are X Box, but one is for the 360 and one for the X Box One. One of them is great for this game and one is not. I'd have to ask my son again which is which

IWould it be worth it to gran an X-box 360??controller Those work fine but as I've said I found they aren't all equals when it comes to a straight club path. X Box One vs X Box 360. As I said I'm not sure which is the better one but my boy knows. Regardless you can still play with either one. Yes, they are plug and play on Windows. I'm still waiting around for our SimHQ golf action, so..... hit me up?

I'd suggest turning off the swing timing thing in the difficulty settings and go from there.

I asked my son and he says the 360 version is the one we found to be much better for PGA Tour 2K21.

DBond took your sons advice and ditched the logitec controller and ordered a 360 controller.Stupid UPS delivered it but it was delivered to a town 20 miles away Zanesville I live in New Concord.Contacted Amazon and had a replacement in two days. It's a far better controller than the Logitech one.I like the placement of the thumb switches and it feels a lot smoother. But seems the game is for multiplayer so looking at another golf game. I never took to online gaming except for Ghost Recon a few years back.Going to test it out in some other types of games. Thanks for the advice

Nice one Russ. Do you hit it better?
What do you mean it is for multiplayer? You can play an offline tour.

I picked up the latest version in the recent Steam Spring Sale. There was no '22 version, so the new one is 2K23. It's more or less the same game, with a few new features. Probably the main one is club fitting. There's a new mechanic where you can buy or be rewarded with new parts, sorted by club head, shaft and grip. Over time you can improve the attributes of each club in your bag, which isn't all that necessary but gives you something to do when not on the course.
So now choosing any brand has no effect on how good or bad that club is, brands are just cosmetic. Taylor Made is the same as Hogan is the same as Cobra and so on. But you can improve the parts of the club with the fittings.
As always with this sort of game I turn off stuff like commentary and music. So I can't rate the commentary other than to speculate that it is once again terrible. Rich Beam returns and that won't do. So I turned it off before hitting my first shot.
Tee to green it's a pretty good golf game. Actually, the best I've played and that goes back to Links 386. I like the ability to choose so many different shot types, and then have the ability to further shape the shot with spin. Cuts, fades, draws. Punch shots, flop shots. It's all there and it's fun to have so much control over the ball. The only spot where I think it's mixed is the putting. I just cannot read greens accurately in this game, even with the grid enabled. I can easily read the break as opposite of what it is, so I have to rely on the 'putt preview' thing, and then I putt too well. I need a middle ground.
There's an extensive course list that has plenty of top courses like Pebble Beach, Riviera, Sawgrass and Bay Hill, but no Augusta and plenty more too. There's a full PGA Tour mode. I started in Q School, qualified for the Korn Ferry Tour, and then earned promotion to the PGA Tour where we play a full schedule
But yeah, probably the best golf game going at the mo.

I just bought PGA 2K23 for Xbox. 3 reasons, the Deluxe version is 60% off, ends today. #2 I want to play from my Lazy Boy, and 3rd, I saw tha EA's game is currently locked at 30fps.

Yes, it is. Although how would I know other than how bad he was in 21. Never gave him a chance in this one and anyway I can see what is happening, don't need Rich Beam making it worse I'll check out that EA game when it''s out. I could see Augusta several times in that video, and that's worth a look for sure. The video touts the ball physics, but it looked a bit optimistic at times, especially how they were rolling it from off the green. The ball behavior in 2K23 is convincing, for me. I like the new club fittings thing. And customizing my bag. I pretty much ignored this in 21, the stock clubs were fine, but here I'm having fun with it. I've filled my bag with the same stuff I use in real life. Hogan Edge irons, Taylor Made woods, balata Titleist, Ping Anser. Pretty cool. Since brands are just cosmetic, you don't get any fomo for picking this over that. Just go with whatever looks good or that you play for real. Performance attributes are handled separately through the fittings mechanic.

The thing I like about golf games, is the pace. and you really do have to learn to master the controls. Still trying to get out of Q School. Shot a +4 my best so far. Going in the right direction, shot a +14 yesterday.
