Bad JuJu cometh.

A back to back, double whammy of tropical badness is heading for the coast. Lafourche and Terrebonne parishs have both been hit particulary hard by the ChiCom flu, as there are lots of overweight, diabetic people there. It looks like, as of now, that both storms will hit them HARD.

Rita in 2005 put most of those two parrishes under a lot of water, as in many feet of water. That was a couple of weeks after Katrina. These two won't be more than a day or two apart...so far.

Be careful you folks, especially MarkG, he's pretty far inland, just no idea how flood prone he is.

Glad I am not there...

Did New Orleans ever improve their flood control system making them higher after Katrina or did they only repair the damage broken ones?

Yeah, they spent gazillions, including what the then mayor stole and was sent to prison for. yep

So far looks good for NOLA. from Grand Isle west, not so good. Smart guys on a couple hurricane places I follow are saying to not trust the cone for Laura, for many reasons including the Kobayashi Maru effect, where they tend to rotate counter-clockwise around a common center, then go their separate ways. RTFM

Seriously, again, I am really glad I am not in the path of that mess. Kobayashi Maru wink or Fujiwara won't matter. Lots of wind, water and rain...and no power for too long in oppressive heat.

I think I may have to turn in my unofficial Hurricane watcher card, Marco really fooled me.

I watched in amazement yesterday as the wind shear took the NE quadrant of a strong tropical storm and blew it into one big rain band streching at one time from the MS coast to the SC/NC border on the coast!

THAT I have never seen in over 50 years of seriously watching, living thru and running from tropical cyclones.

Laura still trying to break bad for LA and TX.

Marco really fizzled. Rain event.

Laura ain't fizzling...

She is looking like Rita on steroids! NHS now predicting storms surges of 15' to 20' and going up to 30 miles inland! Put 20' waves on top of that on the coast and you have a nighmare, albeit short lived, for anyone foolish enough to still be there.

If you live in TX, LA, AL, AR, MS, FL, whether directly affected by the storm or not, you might wanna fill your gas tank at least.

Prolly 90% of the GOM oilfields are shut in for now and expect serious destruction/damages, plus all those refineries in the path of Laura add up to price increase at best.

Just filled mine, price still the same here, $2.05, but I doubt it will stay there long.

Unless the projected path radically changes I'd say FL dodged this bullet entirely,

Bah, can't concentrate now, so 'class' dismissed for the next...24 hours(?). May as well post on SimHQ...

Wind is picking up enough that I'm about to go unhook my porch swings and flip my rockers. We're on the projected outskirts (Ethel, LA) so it shouldn't get bad here.

I kinda got this thing for nasty weather, so my biggest preparation was leaving my house yesterday for the first time in months and getting a dental cleaning. biggrin Now I just have to charge the players and speakers in case we lose power, make an appropriate playlist and I'm ready!

Best line from the news this afternoon..

"if you live in the in these storm surge areas, you are about to become one with the ocean and it is not survivable."

Hopefully that sent a few last minute idiots scrambling.

And yeah, 2020 certainly hasn't been a banner year.

Nice one [song], Nixer. thumbsup

Just got a quick squall preview, now totally calm. Hard heavy rain knocked out satellite (TV and Internet) and lights blinked. Generators on stand-by.

Surprised me because we're pretty far from it, but this is a huge storm. Maybe my last posting window until it's over.

Hopefully the last minute idiots just keep removing themselves from the gene pool like they've been doing with regards to the OTHER natural disaster lately...

My genuine condolences though to the people who for whatever reasons don't have the ability to "just get up and leave". (Well and also to those who can - a lot of people are going to lose houses, businesses, etc).

If my house burned down I have people I could stay with. If a huge chunk of my state went down I'd be in real trouble. Could conceivably relocate to a few other states via family and friends, but I'd be temporarily homeless for sure...

Keep us posted as long as you can Mark.

I couldn't believe the video I saw earlier of S. Leeville, LA, which is about 6 miles as the pelican flys inland from the gulf, having about 4 feet+ of water at around noontime today!

Bad JuJu...

I heard they sent two C-130 to evacuate about 80 people in Texas coastal town who had no way out.

Just saw some Hurrican Tracker guy on YT...sorry didn't keep the link.

He placed a bunch of high tech wireless cams around TX and LA coasts.

The one in Cameron, LA was 9' above the ground...

It went under water and died around midnite. Sheriff says 150 people in Cameron refused to evacuate.

Not good. nope

Been there done that, much older boat though, in Katrina 2005.

This looks like a big modern pushboat with a large barge in front and obviously very well secured to a dock.

Skip to 3:21 if you just want to see the view from the boat's wheelhouse, although there is lots of other interesting damage footage. 130 mph winds on the guage on the pushboat. We had over 150 mph gusts where I was in Katrina.

A little wind and rain, spotty satellite, flickering lights but no power loss. Protected by distance.

Still have my porch furniture, just needs some leave and limb cleanup (pics below when it's sparkling clean). My fans keep spinning fast like I have them turned on.

Nixer, your pre-edited post was accurate for the area, no "oops" required. smile

happy_bday bones and RSColonel_131st! Mine is Monday (53), going to celebrate by getting tooth #15 (upper left molar) drilled and shaved to be crowned (the last of my long-term dental work, will now have no more fillings to worry with).

++++++++++

I'm on day 25 of 90 of extreme self-improvement (body and mind) and my inner Gunny is grumbling that the storm break is over, to turn off the TV and get back to 80's lala land of boot camp study where the outside world is mostly just a crappy modern reality show.

Seriously guys...for your sanity, take in only as much of this world (at least how it's presented in the media) as you have to and try to use this unprecedented time as best as you can. My 90 days ends Nov. 1st., going to come back and show what a dumbass like myself can learn in such a short time (mainly math, programming, foreign language).

++++++++++

At least I'm getting a new themed playlist out of this. tuner

Just finished watching some CA transplant FINALLY realizing it's time to move his wife and kids, but only to a high spot on Dolphin Island (mouth of Mobile bay).

Completely clueless internet, self promoting ho. His freakin crackerbox condo was coming apart before his eyes in tropical storm winds, with worse on the way.

He's talking about protecting his home...like wow, way too many super hero movies for this guy!

Long night indeed...and morning...heck, it's probably coming back towards me before landfall.

He's safe though, he has an Obama bicycle helmet. rolleyes

Yeah Jim, saw that.

Why didn't he just throw them all in his vehicle???

That guy is, well... talk about PTSD.

Decisions...

Gonna be lots more bad decisions made on the Gulf Coast, or should I say, have already been made.

I REALLY hope I am wrong.

That Sally is moving slowly at 3 mph, going NE, and won't clear the coastal areas for another 18 hours when it will weaken to a tropical storm. Current winds of 105 mph and dumping a lot of rain. I hope no one here is in the affected areas and in its path.

Ok, gas runs finished (topping off 2 cars and a truck, also a couple of 5-gallon portables), porch picked up and locked down. Nothing to do now but wait...

How far are you from BR and in what direction? (I forget) old_simmer

Nah. Most that happens here, besides occasional ceiling water damage from strong windy rain that blows underneath my metal roof, is the power goes out for a couple of days or so. See below.

Too far north to be seriously concerned (insurance companies consider above I-10 as normally safe), unless we're in the path of the eye of an unusually strong storm.

According to this thread...
https://SimHQ.com/forum/ubbthreads.php/topics/4395054/3

...the Google Earth coordinates for my backyard septic tank are:
30°44'56.23" N 91°06'52.68" W

++++++++++

My sister has lived in the southern part of the state with her husband for 40 years (Morgan City) and they're sometimes concerned, but I don't recall them ever going through the severity of damage you see on TV, which usually happens right off the water. For the rest of us it's spawning tornadoes that we keep a watch for, but the odds are that we'll never get hit with one.

One day I plan to move a little further north...like Oregon. smile

Yeah, looks like you are farther inland than I thought.

Morgan City has a pretty extensive levee/floodgate system, good for your sister and a good buffer for you. smile

4 hours of heavy rain and thunderstorms already (not so bad just unexpected being so far away). Knocked my satellite internet and TV out right away (had enough time to log on but not post). One good reason to have a smart phone around (mine is a flip phone).

Thanks. I was watching Weather Channel and the streets of Lake Charles are still pilled with debris from Laura! eek2 EDIT: Also a sea of blue roof tarps. This will not go well.

Even *we're* going to feel it here tonight, through the early morning hours. Got my playlist ready and I plan to make the best of it! wink

Like money and sex, electricity is easy to take for granted...until you're no longer getting any. biggrin

Midnight Star - Electricity...

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7C3lH-vV_lk

A Friday date night without power: battery powered LED mood setting lamps, crashing thunder and lightning with banging winds, a fully charged MP3 sound box belting out 80's power ballads...perfect!

But 48 hours of having no power in a relative (for the season) heat spell...not so perfect. The only advantage to having electric hot water heaters in a hot attic during a power outage is that you can still shower comfortably and hand wash dishes with hot to warm water.

Glad it's over.

Man...I went like 6 WEEKS after Katrina with no power.

90 degrees, 90% plus humidity and zero wind where I was.

Took a very sketchy boat job just to be able sleep in air conditioning and cook semi-normally.

UNTIL... the even more sketchy boat owner came to the boat saying "we have got a job!"

Dragging for bodies in New Orleans...

I packed, and walked off the boat. Nahhhhh. Bring on the sweat.

I've always known the season to be the six months from the first of June to the end of November.

And thanks, but this one doesn't look to be very big and will be to the east of us anyway (you want to be to the west of the eye).

A couple of days. Just a heads up for anyone interested, we use this site which seemed very accurate (you may find something similar for your area)...
https://demco.maps.sienatech.com/

When we built the "barn", we ran an underground power line to my parent's apartment fusebox (a converted double carport and workshop + added sunroom). Then we run an extension cord to power our refrigerator and separate freezer in the house. This way we can run the generator in a protected area away from the house, plus a second smaller generator to power the refrigerator and freezer we keep in the barn. We're looking at getting a larger generator that can handle most of the power needs for the apartment (full lighting and fans, but probably not AC and electric water heaters/stove), and all of us just hold up there.

May only be a CAT 2 but it is making a bead right at where I was living when I was there from mid 90's to 2012.

5' to 8' surge they are predicting should put all of Grand Isle underwater, unless it turns more easterly. Moving really fast now, 20+ mph, which is good rain and flood wise, bad for storm surge I think.

Also, if it holds it's course there will be lots of big steel boats floating off their moorings and over their docks they are tied to. Bad news...thousand tons of steel being blown around by a LOT of wind. Almost happened to me last one I rode out in a boat, weaker than this and only about 5' surge. Another couple of feet and it would have been nasty...scary...and very dangerous. I bet where I was, same place I rode out Katrina, is full of boats.

After the Gustav and Ike double evacuation debacle in 2008, I swore that with the next mandatory evac I was leaving forever. Never happened again before I left in 2012 to take care of my mom.

Certainly glad I wasn't there this year. Bad juju...Chi-Com flu killed a bunch and beaucoup Hurricanes tearing stuff up.

Haven't been to Grand Isle in decades. Already rain and wind picking up, but we don't expect enough to knock power out this time. Was in a tornado warning earlier, but that's all the time with these storms.

Probably about to lose internet, but it doesn't take much, just over-saturated clouds.

It went right over Golden Meadow.

I lived in a 1 br old house on blocks there for almost 10 yrs, prior to that I commuted back to Florida or was "furniture" at a neat little local hotel/diner/bar for over 5 years prior to that.

Miss the place actually...

Nixer, were you eating a lot of seafood down there? readytoeat

Man, this storm is moving fast and has already pulled away from us. Went outside a while ago with wife and parents to a gorgeous pink sky sunset with nice breeze and perfect temps. But you could see the dark gray cloud movement of the outskirts of the storm miles in the distance, kind of creepy.

Yeah Mark, mainly lots of oysters and shrimp.

When I worked in deep water the occasional yellow fin tuna would "jump" onto the boat. Dolphin (mahi mahi) also.

Time of year again. This one is weak and curving to the east of me, so not concerned. Still got everything ready (porch furniture secured, gas containers filled, generator ready, playlist queued, etc.).

Yep, we got absolutely nothing from this one but a preparation drill which is always a good way to start the season.

It is what it is. All we can do in the hurricane zone is be well prepared. The last thing we need to do is act like the sensationalist attention-whoring news media!

1. If you want to be added to my potential hazardous hurricane map just let me know (I forget the poster who lives in "NW Alabama".)
2. Where has RK been lately?
3. Eventually I'll expand my hurricane map to include other areas and posters (the obvious including FL and the Carolinas).

All you guys are pretty far from the coast; thankfully, but you guys have had a bunch of rain dumped on you lately and this is the last thing you need.

I lived farther south in Golden Meadow, surrounded by a big, very well maintained levy. Hurricane Rita, right on the tails of Katrina, almost topped that levy, they added about five feet (was over twenty feet) after that.

You life long LA guys know the drill. Be safe my friends.

Sure am glad I am not still living in Golden Meadow in my little shack on blocks...

You're absolutely correct Nixer, about being far enough from the coast to not be in any real danger, aside from a freak storm-related occurrence (tornado, extreme flash flooding or falling tree). It's the coastal areas which can be truly dangerous (as you know), and I expect my sister and husband will probably leave town (Morgan City) if these predictions continue.

What concerns me a little is that, at current predictions (which can certainly change), we're in the path of the eye and of what might be a major-strength hurricane. That's where you don't want to be, or to the east of the storm. West is much better, as in my earlier pic where we were right on the western border and hardly felt it. Plus, as you noted, and as I also noted mowing my grass today, the ground is already saturated.

So I'm not *that* concerned right now, but enough to be preparing and posting about it on a Friday evening (although I'm listening to my storm playlist). wink

Oh yeah, I'm currently unpacking my new UPS from Costco (for my workstation desktop), which can also charge devices...

In addition to my regular survival essentials plastic container which is continually refreshed (something I started after the 2016 flood), as well as regular camping gear, including one of these (shouldn't be needed with a relatively new septic tank system)...

[Linked Image]

...my kitchen table is well organized with supplies (just out of pic) including batteries, flashlights, LED lamps, a weather-band radio, etc. Generator is standing by (enough to keep freezers functioning and to charge UPS/devices, make coffee). I will miss hot breakfasts though...

[Linked Image]

House has two attic hot water heaters (one for both bathrooms, another for kitchen and half bath) which keeps water hot for about three days after power is cut (and wife knows not to take her regular 20 min. scalding Hollywoods), so at least we shouldn't have to take cold showers unless power is out for longer than that.

So...we’re ready. It'll be interesting to see if the backyard barn cupola eagle weather vane survives.

It's gonna be a rough one I'm afraid Mark.

I just know certain former friends of mine in Golden Meadow are staying. nope

I just lost touch with most of them over time.

I just hope most get smart and evacuate ... or already have from the looks of the traffic I have seen.

The 5 PM update moved the center of the cone east... right over Baton Rouge frown

I think I was just hit by a very easterly rain band for this thing in W, Central Florida, N of Tampa.

Go here and zoom the Radar out to see Atlanta and Cuba. Put it into motion.

The whole eastern gulf is circulating, including out into the Atlantic! Don't remember seeing that before.

You sound as ready as you can be Mark.

I’m sitting at Columbus Mississippi with my airplane and wife returning from Montana. It was a long cross-country flight and now I’m stopped 6 hours from home because of this storm. May not be able to fly tomorrow. Hoping to be able to get airborne and at least fly East a bit to get further from it. Will know better in the morning when I do a weather and flight analysis.

Be advised that the last time I evacuated hotel rooms west of Columbus, GA well east of you as you certainly know, became VERY scarce.

Of course that was about 12 years ago.

I have only a non-internet flip phone and a Win10 laptop. Wife lets me browse on her work iPhone, but no app installs (I wouldn't even know how). I do like the idea and will try to find something for my laptop.

Good luck getting home tomorrow, OG.

I haven't seen a storm so hyped since moving back home to Louisiana in 2009. We'll see...

After my parents are gone I'm going to sell everything and move to the middle of Montana (more enticing to me now than even Astoria, Oregon).

Yes, I will live in Montana. And I will raise rabbits, and my wife will cook them for me. And I will have a pickup truck... maybe even a "recreational vehicle." And drive from state to state.

Thanks for the video, LB4LB. I'll post a short summary on my wife's phone after it passes (assuming I'll have no electricity or internet for a while).

Wow! I just watched the local 10PM news (recorded) and current prediction has the eye path literally going over my house! eek2

Again, 30°44'56.23" N 91°06'52.68" W (my septic tank location...Google Earth).

If that's the case, and if the eye stays defined enough this far inland, I'll be sure to take pics. I understand the inside of the eye is super calm but freaky looking to be surrounded by storm walls. Also, the second hit after the eye is worse than the initial hit. I just don't know how defined it'll still be when it reaches me.

Good morning. I woke up and went straight to my laptop.

It's Sunday morning 6:15AM Central Time Zone. The projected path of Ida (now a Cat 4) has shifted slightly to the west,...

[Linked Image]

...but I can still see my driveway on the projection map so not far enough (like it matters)!

Adding to above, my wife just made an interesting observation on her phone. Looking at projected sustained wind speeds for our location, it's obvious when the eye will pass over us...

Thanks, Ajay. Looking out of my kitchen window, it's calm as can be right now. But this will start to change in a couple of hours.

Time to sign off and secure my laptop. See you all on the other side. cheers

EDIT: Oh yeah, check out the wind direction arrows in my phone pic on above post. smile

Eh... Path has been hooking east, now projected to pass ~7 miles (11 km) from my home, giving us a widening western safety margin. I won't know until the middle of the night, but it shouldn't be as bad now for my immediate area.

The trees are swaying pretty good though, and I'm sure we're about to lose power. But that's to be expected and not a big deal.

EDIT: More hook, now at ~10 miles (16 km), breathing easier.

2nd EDIT: Just checked...sustained wind prediction is now slightly higher than what I posted earlier, but without the eye break. So who knows...

Hang in there Mark.

Pretty sure Grand Isle will be close to a total loss, Port Fourchon also.

Just watched footage of the roof blowing off Lady of the Sea hospital in Golden Meadow! I lived like a 1/4 mile from there... seriously.

In a shack on blocks, "anchored" by PVC water lines.

It keeps creeping more east away from Mark. Good for him, bad for others.

That's how it works in the deadly storm impacts. You don't want to wish it on anyone, but you don't want it on you even more.

Yep, good for some, worse for others. It is now projected closer to where I am grounded with my airplane. Sent the wife home in a rental car. So she’s out of it.

Just found some video from today in Golden Meadow, LA where I lived for over ten years..

Those boats and trucks floating away are from the levee district and on the wrong side of the levee.

The post office was like 300 yards straight line from my house. The big blue building with the blown over reefer truck is a giant freezer for shrimp, hopefully modular. That is a solid concrete slab like 5 ft thick. Less than a 1/2 mile from my old house. Pretty much everything in the video is within 1/2 mile, or closer, of where I lived.

16 (oops) years ago tonight, at about this exact time, I was watching a 80' steel shrimp boat being blown sideways right by where I was tied up in my 110' steel boat awaiting Katrina's arrival. Seriously wondering why I had agreed to do this.

I got lucky and Katrina, which was headed straight for me, just like Ida today, took a good jog to the east well offshore.

That jog may have saved my life, certainly my boat.

I would bet that where I was docked was under at least 10' of water today.

Hopefully it will start losing lots more strength before it gets to you, once it quits feeding on all that S. Louisiana marshland.

Bullet dodged. We’re fine. Little house damage and parents car damaged something took out drivers mirror but stuff can be fixed. Extended family has a tree in their bedroom but everyone ok. Plenty of gas for generator and temps are comfortable so we’re good

Glad to hear things are OK for you Mark. You have the right attitude about things, while I tend to focus more on the problems. I see things that have gone wrong more than the things that are going well.

Like now. My plane is safely in a hangar and I am in a comfortable hotel. And rather than being happy about my blessings I am thinking of the extra costs and how my return home has been delayed. I look at the weather forecast and see further delay rather than how fortunate I am that all is pretty good for me in this situation. Could be stuck at a field without being able to get into a hangar and in a crappy motel.

Yeah, I applaud your outlook.

Great news Mark.

OG, I know the waiting game sucks, but it beats the heck out of most of the alternatives.

Those poor folks in Golden Meadow where I lived for many years...

My former street is about 3 blocks south (to the left) of that bright yellow corvette. Some places I don't recognize, either due to damage and/or the fact that I have been gone for over 8 years.

There will be similar damage from the gulf to New Orleans/Houma and beyond. Many places no power for weeks...in 90+ deg heat and 90% humidity.

As much empathy as I have for all those folks in S. LA, I am seriously glad I wasn't there.

Local gas shortages conserving generator fuel for freezers hot and sticky where’s rain when you want it. Loads of fun lol.

LET THERE BE LIGHT (but especially A/C...thermostat currently reads 82d)!

Kind of a shock to have power back so soon (thought I was dreaming); led to believe it would be at least several more days. Again, we were lucky with this one, even with being so far inland.

If it were just my wife and I it would be no problem. But taking care of 2 elderly parents and 4 elderly animals (14+ years...all with health problems) make it harder to deal with these types of situations. But so many people have it so much worse, I feel for them if just for not having A/C tonight (and that's the lucky ones who still have a home). I slept drenched in sweat last night and it was miserable, if only a cool front would bring some relief for those still without power.

Thank you Nixer, OP of thread, for your tidbits about actually living in South Louisiana where they really get the brunt of these storms. I used my wife's phone just to read this thread and I shared your experiences and observations with my family.

I turned 54 today and I'll remember this BD with the joy of having light and A/C blowing in my face. smile Along with a fresh pot of coffee. Until next storm...

Catching up on TV news, holy crap! One of those HUGE electrical towers fell, 8 major lines now in the Mississippi River, knocking out power to almost all of New Orleans. Repair time unknown...

Wow! It was weeks until I got power back after Katrina.

VERY happy for you Mark. I am really surprised you have power back. I guess after so many power crisis's they have it down, kinda like power triage, except in reverse. Fix the folks that are easy now, then we work on the power transmission lines OVER (sunk), blocking the Mississippi. You guys weren't hit bad compared to just about everybody south and east of you. Still amazes me, maybe Biden could divert some of that "infrastructure" gazillions away from gay penguin research and put some of it into putting S. Louisiana's power lines UNDER ground. Duh.... It's almost like these disasters are profit/campaign events...Nahhhhh, nobody would be that slimey...I mean...it would be like looking at your watch during a solemn ceremony for a hero under your command. Nahh, not even a politician is that slimey.

I have been watching IDA an the Stan vids all day (and trying to be a good student...seriously), mostly really depressing. Still have not got a good look at where my old house was, but have seen a mini storage place about a 1/4 mile away pretty much nuked. explode

It was way better built than my place...

Nothing like being in the southern part of the state near the Gulf; however...

From what I can tell, Ida was still causing damage along the eye path as far inland as my location, which might still be without power for some time (next parish over). I was lucky to be far enough away on the west side of the path (as you noted).

But I didn't know this Sunday morning around 10AM with the last screenshot I took...

[Linked Image]

...where it seemed like the path was staying steady, even after landfall. But then the storm slowed more than expected which allowed the forces pushing east to push it far enough away from me, as I understand it.

I knew I'd likely be far enough anyway from any catastrophic carnage (heck, I'm almost in Mississippi). But when you can clearly see your driveway in the projected path of a major hurricane that hasn't really changed for several hours, you get a little nervous. smile This is the first time I've truly been concerned way up here, and I doubt that'll ever happen again.

EDIT: My sister in Morgan City never even lost power.

Montana is a great state to live if you don't have to worry about finding a job. There's a good reason why that huge state only has a population of about 1 million. wink

Some people need only an internet connection, virtual employment becoming ever so popular the last year or so. smile

But if anyone can pull it off, I think we can. Neither of us have expensive tastes or toys, and we're both looking forward to extensively downsizing our lives. A much smaller house and property (at least the area requiring maintenance) in an area with a sparse and politically red population seems mighty appealing.

My hobby requires only an old PC (I have a stash to last a lifetime) with a cheap online laptop. Wife likes to crosstitch and sew patch quilts (has a nice sewing machine). We'd just need an old base-model pickup to ride into town for groceries and supplies (not sure what grows in a garden up there).

And if Montana is a state too far, there's some towns of interest in the state above us that seem to me like a mini-Montana of the South...

Down to 3 elderly animals, parent's dog didn't make it. These situations are stressful for animals too. This one had a good life.

Glad to hear things are going well for you Mark. Sorry about the dog; they are the best. Hurts to lose them.

I got out of Columbus, Mississippi and have been able to get down into northern Florida. Less than an hour from home, but there is a weather arm spun off from the storm laid out over central Florida. Stopped less than an hour from home.

Did you finally make it home OG?

++++++++++

Conformation of what I suspected...

We have friends who live in Greensburg, LA, a small town in the next parish (county) over, 10m north and 30m east of us. They were close to or right on the storm's path (haven't found a detailed path map yet). They lost several trees, a car, a shed, a 4-wheeler, and are still on generators.

Ida raising all heck in NJ and NY with flooding.

There was only 16 squadrons of RAF fighters that used 100 octane during the BoB.
The Fw190A could not fly with the outer cannon removed.
There was no Fw190A-8s flying with the JGs in 1945.

Yeah, I finally made it home …. sort of.

Got 40 minutes flight time from home and a late lingering band of rain closed down my home area. Landed at a nearby airfield and had the wife come and pick me up. A friend is flying me back to the field tomorrow so I can bring it home.

The hurricane sucked a lot of fun out of the flight home.

But the wife and I are fine and the plane is good. Have to keep things in perspective.

Good to hear that you are well OG.

I'm not trying to be a dooms day kind of guy but I just noticed hurricane Larry is out over the Atlantic . Judging by the current projected path though there's a very good chance it will not come to the US. Hopefully it will stay that way.

Buddy flew me up to that airfield and I flew the plane home. So the adventure is now officially over.

To give you an idea of how long the flight was, it was like flying from Dublin Ireland to Moscow and then back.

Good experience to add to my ruck.

Living with the Trees
Busy in the Gulf this week also.

Mindy popped up in hours, dumped a bunch of rain on us while cruising across N. FL and S. GA.

Looks like another coming across the bay of Campeche soon...
