Nah. Most that happens here, besides occasional ceiling water damage from strong windy rain that blows underneath my metal roof, is the power goes out for a couple of days or so. See below.

Too far north to be seriously concerned (insurance companies consider above I-10 as normally safe), unless we're in the path of the eye of an unusually strong storm.

My sister has lived in the southern part of the state with her husband for 40 years (Morgan City) and they're sometimes concerned, but I don't recall them ever going through the severity of damage you see on TV, which usually happens right off the water. For the rest of us it's spawning tornadoes that we keep a watch for, but the odds are that we'll never get hit with one.
One day I plan to move a little further north...like Oregon.

Yeah, looks like you are farther inland than I thought.
Morgan City has a pretty extensive levee/floodgate system, good for your sister and a good buffer for you.

4 hours of heavy rain and thunderstorms already (not so bad just unexpected being so far away). Knocked my satellite internet and TV out right away (had enough time to log on but not post). One good reason to have a smart phone around (mine is a flip phone).

Thanks. I was watching Weather Channel and the streets of Lake Charles are still pilled with debris from Laura! EDIT: Also a sea of blue roof tarps. This will not go well.
Even *we're* going to feel it here tonight, through the early morning hours. Got my playlist ready and I plan to make the best of it!

A Friday date night without power: battery powered LED mood setting lamps, crashing thunder and lightning with banging winds, a fully charged MP3 sound box belting out 80's power ballads...perfect!
But 48 hours of having no power in a relative (for the season) heat spell...not so perfect. The only advantage to having electric hot water heaters in a hot attic during a power outage is that you can still shower comfortably and hand wash dishes with hot to warm water.
Glad it's over.

Man...I went like 6 WEEKS after Katrina with no power.
90 degrees, 90% plus humidity and zero wind where I was.
Took a very sketchy boat job just to be able sleep in air conditioning and cook semi-normally.
UNTIL... the even more sketchy boat owner came to the boat saying "we have got a job!"
Dragging for bodies in New Orleans...
I packed, and walked off the boat. Nahhhhh. Bring on the sweat.

Here we go again, maybe. Off to the gas station to top off my tanks.

It's like predicting a menopausal woman. You assume things will be fine, but keeping an emergency space with supplies to crawl into just in case.

I've always known the season to be the six months from the first of June to the end of November.
And thanks, but this one doesn't look to be very big and will be to the east of us anyway (you want to be to the west of the eye).

A couple of days. Just a heads up for anyone interested, we use this site which seemed very accurate (you may find something similar for your area)... https://demco.maps.sienatech.com/
When we built the "barn", we ran an underground power line to my parent's apartment fusebox (a converted double carport and workshop + added sunroom). Then we run an extension cord to power our refrigerator and separate freezer in the house. This way we can run the generator in a protected area away from the house, plus a second smaller generator to power the refrigerator and freezer we keep in the barn. We're looking at getting a larger generator that can handle most of the power needs for the apartment (full lighting and fans, but probably not AC and electric water heaters/stove), and all of us just hold up there.

May only be a CAT 2 but it is making a bead right at where I was living when I was there from mid 90's to 2012.
5' to 8' surge they are predicting should put all of Grand Isle underwater, unless it turns more easterly. Moving really fast now, 20+ mph, which is good rain and flood wise, bad for storm surge I think.
Also, if it holds it's course there will be lots of big steel boats floating off their moorings and over their docks they are tied to. Bad news...thousand tons of steel being blown around by a LOT of wind. Almost happened to me last one I rode out in a boat, weaker than this and only about 5' surge. Another couple of feet and it would have been nasty...scary...and very dangerous. I bet where I was, same place I rode out Katrina, is full of boats.
After the Gustav and Ike double evacuation debacle in 2008, I swore that with the next mandatory evac I was leaving forever. Never happened again before I left in 2012 to take care of my mom.
Certainly glad I wasn't there this year. Bad juju...Chi-Com flu killed a bunch and beaucoup Hurricanes tearing stuff up.

Haven't been to Grand Isle in decades. Already rain and wind picking up, but we don't expect enough to knock power out this time. Was in a tornado warning earlier, but that's all the time with these storms.
Probably about to lose internet, but it doesn't take much, just over-saturated clouds.
