Just received SB Pro SE and am enjoying the tutorials and getting into it very much. But the thread title pretty much sums up my problem. When firing the main gun or the coax I hear the gun fire and see smoke ect but no shell comes out. Like I said same with the MG, I can hear it but no tracers or impact on the ground .

Is this a common problem which is fixable ?

Any help would be much appreciated as this is the only niggle I have with this superb sim.

Patched to latest version and my specs are Athlon 4000+, 2 Gig of Ram and 6800GT with Windows home (SP2).

you will surly DIE in combat firing blanks, I suggest you contact your local sporting goods store and purchase a side-arm for protection. You may also buy some track shoes to RUN LIKE HELL!!

First time I've heard of this. I'm sure Ssnake will help out as soon as he sees this though.

Might be an idea to post exactly which tutorials or missions you're seeing this in.

Also it may be an idea to register over on the SB forums and post this there. You may get a quicker reply.

Hope you get it sorted. Sorry I can't help further.

It has happened both in the tutorials and offline missions. On average I would say every 7th or 8th shell. When it happens to the MG I dont get any rounds at all coming out, just the sound and muzzle flash.

I will post at the main SB forums as well.

Things like this are almost always a user's pc problem. You being the first and only one to report it, makes me think that it is the case.

And I have to say, almost everytime I've had trouble with games in the past, its either been a virus, or a bad install.

So if I were you, I would un-install it. Scan my pc with both anti-virus, and spyware programs. Then re-install it, and making shure you have absolutely nothing running during the install.

Hm. This sounds rather serious. If there are two people reporting it, an individual screw-up is unlikely. It is the first time that I heard of it. We'll investigate it. I'll be coming back to you as soon as we have at least some vague idea what could be behind this.

Two people reporting it? I've only seen this thread about it.

logic would dictate from his post that someone else has reported a similar issue elsewhere, wouldn't it...

Yes it would...... But it's not here and it's not on the SB forums (the one there is from the same original poster).

So in this case logic might just be wrong. ;\)

If there's one somewhere I've not seen, no worries, if there isn't then double checking who reported it where could save the ESim team from chasing a problem that's not related to the software.

Do the MG tracers come back in subsequent bursts? What, if you switch from coax to main gun and back, and then fire the next burst?
The more details you can provide us, the better.

Its an intermittent problem and very unpredictable. Bearing in mind I only received the sim last Thursday and have only put in around maybe ten hours total. I have tried going to the commanders position/external veiws and back to the gunner ect to stop this but really I shouildnt have to do anything. Its bad enough offline but if this was to happen online it would not be good. I am already terrified to play online with this sim especially as so many players are in the military and have so much experience with the sim.

My disk is already patched apart from the lastest one which was about 4 meg I think. I have been using computers for 5 years or more now so dont think its a lack of knowledge on my part. I am very carefull with virus checking/spyware software ect.

A friend came around yesterday to have a look (who along with another friend has placed an order for SB Pro SE after trying it) and have a go and he was on maybe 45 minutes and fired two blanks in that time. the coax didnt fire blanks at all. I went on late last night and played the Leo 2 mission Recon patrol I think its called and during that fired maybe 4 or five blanks from the main but the coax didnt fire rounds at all apart from once towards the end.

I think its something I will just have to live with but will hope you come up with some ideas Ssnake. I will report back when my friends have received and installed their copies and see if it happens to them also.

I'm wondering what the tank commander says immediately after you've fired one of these "blanks."

??

Good question. The answer is that he does not say anything, as if I have not fired at all.

OK, but when it occurs, try to remember my questions and do these tests. The more information we can get about this issue, the more it helps us to identify the problem. As long as we have no clue what's going on we can hardly do anything.

Please keep in mind that your report is very unusual. If we had detected this bug before we would have eliminated it. It's just that we haven't heard of this before, so we now have to test the circumstances systematically to find bout what's wrong.

So, does this mean that you are firing the gun from the gunner's view? And, if so, when pointing the recticle at the target, did you remember to "lase" the target in order for the gun barrel to elevate properly towards the target?

I bring this up because in the beginning of my enjoyment of this sim, I found myself forgetting to lase the target after dispensing a previous one. In other words, my first target was a distant target, say 2500 meters. Took him out and then moved on to the next target which was a much closer one, say 750 meters. I did not "lase" the target, so the gun was actually firing the shell along the old trajectory which was out of my "zoomed in" field of view so I never saw the tracers for the shell.

Hope my explaination is not too convoluted. \:\)

Other questions:
Does the ammo count change after you fired a round without tracer? What are your framerates, when this occurs?

I will check all this out over the next week. I will see how my two friends get on when their copies arrive also.

Never really watched the ammo count tbh as I am concentrating so hard just looking for targets and getting rounds on them.

I lase every target so dont think its going outside my view. Would it go so far outside that I wouldnt see the tracer , even from the coax ?

New guys eh, tsk we are so much trouble. My questions have only just begun lol. Wait till I get the confidence to give online play a try. Any tips for playing online ? Are there any servers for fresh meat like me. Myself and my friends would love to give it a go in the next few weeks.

Yes. Particularly in the case of the coax.

I found your problem very easy to replicate -- especially with the M1 coax -- by miss-lasing beyond the target. The arc is so high and the time between firing and impact so long it looks very much like no rounds are being fired.

The effect isn't nearly so pronounced with the main gun, which is why I was curious about the TC's feedback.

Ssnake might be on to something with the frame-rate question.
