Total War Troy is free today (release day) 8/13 starting at 9:00am EDT via the Epic Games Store. It will be free for 24 hours.
(cue whining about Epic from the usual suspects).
Throughout history, poverty is the normal condition of man. Advances which permit this norm to be exceeded — here and there, now and then — are the work of an extremely small minority, frequently despised, often condemned, and almost always opposed by all right-thinking people. Whenever this tiny minority is kept from creating, or (as sometimes happens) is driven out of a society, the people then slip back into abject poverty. This is known as "bad luck.” -Robert Heinlein

I'll be grabbing it today but I will also be buying it on Steam when that is available next year.
As for Epic, I have had no issues with it but I also have only played one game on it so far .

PM - I kinda remember reading somewhere that CA is trying to set it up so that if you own it on Epic you can get it on Steam too. That would be my preference as well. My OCD hates having things all over the place.
Of course, if you use the GOG client, you can run GOG, Steam, and Epic games from it. I think it connects to a few other services as well.

I grabbed it,thanks for the heads-up. I'll admit I was a little suspicious of Epic for a while but so far I have 30 free games. Can't argue with that

Had this on a reminder on my pc so i wouldn't forget, downloading now. Apparently Epic games had no idea who i was, email not registeted, yadda yadda...got there in the end by signing in through google and whaddya know, there's my email it couldn't identify front and center in epic games. All of my old stats, coiny things and games are gone though from when i last had it installed.
Edit - same old same old game but looks prettier. Some different mechanics and i've only started a campaign and a few turns in, 'allies' turn on you quickly which is interesting, stacking archers dominates battles, low tier starter troops rout easily and can cause a full collapse early in battle. Very easy to get into regards keybindings, ui etc. On normal now, need to restart with it on a higher difficulty so it isn't the usual walk over game, time for Hector i think.

After a couple of hours of playing I think Epic got screwed over big time by Sega with this game.
They ask a €50 full-game price for a DLC-sized €5 faction pack.
I still like the game so far, but #%&*$#, imagine having paid more than 5 bucks for it... :S I haven't played the game yet but I knew there had to be some ulterior motive as to why Sega/CA did the exclusive deal with Epic for this title.

Well is it any different really from the other 'Saga' titles? Like Thrones of Britannia in terms of content and scope? That's about what I was expecting.

Actually, ToB is the ONLY other Saga title, although Fall of the Samurai seems to have been designated so after the fact.
Maybe Charlemagne too? I have no idea. Ignore my posts.

Charlemagne was purely a DLC for TW: Attila. It definitely didn't have enough content to be a stand-alone game.

I agree with Vaderini, and was kind of surprised when I saw that $49.95 price tag as I took advantage of the free version. I have almost no interest in the subject matter, and doubt that I would have ever purchased it at any price more what we used to term "bargain bin" game prices. However, free was a price I couldn't pass up.
I haven't downloaded it yet along with at least 3 other free games I got on Epic, but I have way more than that in games that I have actually purchased on Steam. Fortunately, most, if not all of those Steam games were purchased at "bargain bin" prices of no more than $5.
Still, it's just hard for me to want to try anything new now due to just a general apathy towards gaming in general. I haven't fired up a single Total war game for any serious play in several months now---which seems to be a more regular pattern with me nowadays.
Cheers

[quote=PanzerMeyer Burnout with a long term hobby is quite common. Either you'll pick up a new hobby or you might return to gaming later on. [/quote] You're right. I'll come back eventually--at least I always have before. Cheers
