Hehe, some old farts here. There`s quite a few retired pilots that has flight models or model flying as a hobby. We have a club here that even has a guy who flew Spitfires in the Norwegian Air Force. I think he has some hours in the F-104G as wel.l https://flystua.no/ Until when did the Norwegian AF use Spitfires? I'm thinking it was probably well into the 1950's? As for old farts on SimHQ, I've never done an extensive demographic study but I'd say the average age on SimHQ probably hovers around the 45-50 range.

Thanks for that! I love the pic of the P47-C Razorback model.

I just started popping back in again once in a while.

Well #%&*$#...this is like a blast from the past. I just fired up my computer and did a flightsim for first time in like 10 years this weekend. Flight sim 2020 looks too good and got me to finally fly again. Going to get BMS and EECH up and running again soon. Still on the fence aboit DCS

Still on the fence aboit DCS If you don’t have a considerable amount of free time to put into learning the different modules then don’t bother. Go the MIcrosoft Flight Simulator route instead.

That's still to be determined how much time i have. I couldn't find my old CH maps for BMS for example and that alone made me realize why I stop simming. May take me a full day just setting up my controller. But I do like detailed study sims. My problem was always how dead the Lockon environments felt. Like empty.

Unless you have VR. Then by all means get DCS World and fly the free aircraft. There is also an excellent free A-4 Skyhawk that it's too hardcore (ie no radar etc). The A-10A is also not too terribly a difficult aircraft to learn well enough to enjoy. Forget VR, even if you don't have it try DCS anyway

My problem was always how dead the Lockon environments felt. Like empty. That is a valid observation and one made by many simmers. This is why 90% of my DCS stick time is multiplayer so I at least have the interaction and communication with other human players.

My problem was always how dead the Lockon environments felt. Like empty. Yep. A common complaint. However, I recently found that isn't always the case. I jumped into a Persian Gulf F-18 mission (a stock, "canned" mission included with sim) a few days ago that was very "alive". Launching off the CV at night in the Gulf of Oman headed up to Iran to hit some ASCM sites and the area was swarming with other aircraft, ships, vehicles etc. I am still learning the F-18 so I wasn't much help to the cause but I watched a lot of action going on around me and I even killed an Iranian F4 that stumbled out in front of me (he was busy engaging someone else with an AIM7). So "alive" missions are possible in DCS!

I cannot get enough of the F-14 module for example. And the Supercarrier is a must.

Yeah I am really eyeing that F14 and F18 more than anything.
At the same time, i don't want to be too ambitious. I am going to have to see how things go come September. What a crappy year this has been. My 5 year old daughter (soon 6) is starting first grade and its going to be 100% remote at home to start school year. I am guessing its going to be like that for a white. So i know thats going to take up a lot of my time doing school work with her.
FS2020 has been a hell lotta fun though. Really made me realize what i have been missing last 10 years or so. Even though it has a lot of flaws, i have been really impressed with it.

It's like a reunion. It sure is. It is good to see the "old guard" around. Well, I get the feeling it would be rude not to join in ... :P Howdy, folks!
