I'm a little torn. Complete blindside and it looks really cool. But we don't know enough yet about what it really is. If it sucks or is fun a few times, then I consider all the time spent on it instead of the things I do want. Too little info for me to make a sound judgement. Reserved

My first impression is "meh." But I was never much for FPS type games. I will wait and see I guess.
Throughout history, poverty is the normal condition of man. Advances which permit this norm to be exceeded — here and there, now and then — are the work of an extremely small minority, frequently despised, often condemned, and almost always opposed by all right-thinking people. Whenever this tiny minority is kept from creating, or (as sometimes happens) is driven out of a society, the people then slip back into abject poverty. This is known as "bad luck.” -Robert Heinlein

Honestly, the FPS aspects and roaming a planet with a Space Blaster doesn't appeal to me either. But it WOULD be cool just to walk around INSIDE the ship.. Especially the BIG BOYS. However, the novelty of that would wear off pretty quickly.

I might be interested in walking around a station too, though if you have to walk to the various services rather than click a menu then no thanks. This kinda brings back memories of Eve's "Captain's Quarters" that crashed and burned a few years ago.
Who knows, maybe they will sneak in atmospheric landings too.
I'll get it though, I have a "Lifetime Season Pass" from back in the Beta days.

Are they getting rid of Mobius(groups) and Solo mode when this comes out?
If so, maybe I'll start playing again.
Elite is pretty #%&*$# boring without human interaction and risk.

I don't understand. What is preventing you from joining the public open server? You'll find plenty of human players there.

I'm pretty sure it's the rails limit But yeah, go to Shinrarta or Deciat in open and Bob's your uncle if PvP is what you seek.

I don't understand. What is preventing you from joining the public open server? You'll find plenty of human players there. The last few times I tried Elite, I spent four hours playing without finding a single human. Very boring. In the first six months after release, I had human interaction all the time. Dividing the community in Elite was a disastrous decision by the developers and hammered nails into the multiplayer coffin. The second worst decision was Engineers, which is a colossal timesink if you want to ever have a chance fighting against a player with a fully upgraded ship. I much prefer keeping stuff limited to store only purchases--and within reason. At least there's still chess to play. No upgrades or timesinks required, there. Regardless, will this update work in Elite Dangerous proper?

If you are into the whole PvP thing then I can certainly understand your argument. It fits logically. For me personally, I haven't had interest in any PvP stuff at all for the past 10 years or so. I just got tired of the cheating and the infantile behavior from other players. When I bought ED about a year and a half ago, I bought it with the intent to only play it in solo mode and in closed group (cooperative) mode. I've put over 1,400 hours into the game according to Steam so I guess you can say I've liked the game.

I've never found a game AI that challenged me, . That's because you've never played Grand Prix Legends.

Personally if solo mode goes away I'll probably drop the game.

I'm going to be eligible for this expansion for no extra cost - I basically have the license that gives me all expansions for the life of the game. So I'll get it regardless Whether I'll make use of it, no idea, I don't really know what it actually is yet. Would be nice to wander around my ship and stations though.

In ED I get the feeling of exploring. In NMS I didn't get that vibe.
