WIP pics of the new Albatros D.I and D.II.

The D.I has a mishmash marking as I was still working on the details.
The D.II is a finished skin of Ernst Freiherr von Stenglin of Jasta 1.

Again, these are work in progress pics. I have to say I am very happy with the new D.I/D.II model. Some points to note are the actual modeled engine louvers, dual sided wheels, tight cowling, wires, and many mapping corrections. Also, the skin is now at a higher resolution.

The base wood pattern and several details in the skin is Paarma's, while I jumped in and went with wing patterns, details and many other aspects. A fun dual effort by the two of us. In honor of Makai who originally painted the D.II, I will be using many wing patterns, and markings from his original skins wherever possible.

OK next snippet of changes for WOFF 2020 that have been completed;
Nos 2 and 4 are related to no1 (posted here )
but still needed new or different code to perform this during other AI directives..

2) AI in 'Transit' now ALWAYS scan for 'close proximity threats', this is irrespective of the Transit 'Search Intercept' waypoint directive.
Search Intercept is a long range scan directive and is only performed if the AI are directed to do so in the mission file.
Close Proximity Threats are a short range scan - these are now always carried out.
Note: Aircraft may sometimes still not 'see' the close proximity threat approaching and then not react.
The variables for a reaction to 'close proximity threats' when in 'Transit' are: Standard Fight 'Morale Factors' (extensive checks e.g.: Numerical Odds of the two flights, Altitudes, Directions, AI Morale, AI Skill, Aircraft Type, Distance from Frontlines etc etc, Weather/Visibility, Do they actually spot the attacker? (human error),
Fuel and Ammunition status, Craft type, Health (Craft and Pilot damage states).

3) A2S: Fighters doing successive passes will now U turn closer to the target e.g. 'airfield attacks' and or 'balloon attacks'

4) AI 'Taking Off' are now more aware of enemy activity and react accordingly with 'Urgent Defense' on 'close proximity threat detection' even before a potential attacker shoots etc.
They do not assess any Morale Factors hence it's an Urgent reaction.
Note: Aircraft may sometimes still not 'see' the enemy approaching and then may still not react.
Note2: Aircraft must be in 'Form up' stage of takeoff before they will react - they cannot react when on the field, climbing out or levelling off - for obvious reasons
Again there are many variables for reaction to 'close proximity threats' when 'Taking Off' such as Skill, Weather/Visibility, Do they actually spot the attacker? (human error), Fuel and Ammunition status, Craft type, Health (Craft and Pilot damage states).

Thanks Pol for the update. I do like #3!
Now, during those scans is the AI blinded by the sun? Should we even bother attacking with the sun behind? Currently it doesn’t seem to make much difference. It feels like the AI’s vision isn’t affected by the sun glare.

an "urgent reaction" would be great to have for the escorting command in mission file, too. For fighter escorts if possible.

I think the urgent reaction item is a great addition to the AI behavior, and should significantly reduce the number of "sitting ducks" who are going home and don't seem to notice the hostile aircraft sneaking up on their tail.

I suggest a +1 or a +2 moral bonus for scouts when they are performing as escorts. They should be more afraid of feeling the boot heel of their commander for failing to protect the escorts than they fear getting shot at!

Guys it's not a suggestions thread please, there's a thread for that already. There's a lot more changes I have not listed yet.

There's a new feature to allow engaging BEFORE checking morale for a period and so on.

Alb D.II in the works.... 1916 vs 1917 markings. Will be more mixed and matched and painted over for the higher Jastas that were known to receive "hand-me-downs" as the upper Jastas began to receive and use new equipment.

Please notice that except from some early planes and prototypes the Johannisthal and LVG machines had the fuselage crosses shifted to the tail,
like in the D.IIIs, even D.I ones

Thanks for this elephant. I only have a few D.I profiles to go by... JFM's book and the lot of the old skins. So I'm doing what I can to make it right. Although I have come across quite a few pics that show the fuse crosses in different locations...

BTW.. Who flew that No.7 D.I? If you know who it is, what Jasta and the colors of the markings, I could possibly put it in the game.

Thanks,

OvS

OvS, if you would be kind enough to preserve some "layered" skin templates for our custom paint job community, I am sure it would be much appreciated!
