There was only 16 squadrons of RAF fighters that used 100 octane during the BoB. The Fw190A could not fly with the outer cannon removed. There was no Fw190A-8s flying with the JGs in 1945.

Interesting. Recently completed a FutureLearn course on life in Rome and one on Hadrian's wall. A most fascinating and intriguing society with such extremes of civilised behaviour and technological progress combined with such brutality. My nearest city is Worcester, named by the Romans as Weogoran ceaster. Weorgoran means people of the winding river, not a Latin term though.

Neat Map--I'm assuming that it will be interactive eventually?
Speaking of Hadrian's wall, here's my own little bit of Hadrian history. It's an authentic solid silver denarius minted in Rome around 121-124 AD early in Hadrian's rule. It depicts Hadrian on the obverse and the reverse, it shows the emperor shaking hands with Felicitas (Roman Goddess of happiness).
I marvel at how such organizational excellence was achieved by a buncha Italians.

So in other words, no different really from modern day societies.

Modern day Italians bear almost no genetic or cultural similarities with the classical Latins. That's what happens after multiple centuries of war, de-populations and population replacement by the Germanic tribes that invaded after 400 AD.

I found a link to this artistic project on the Total War forum. An artist by the name of Daniel Voshart used a modern graphic art software program to make color portraits of all of the Roman Emperors by using some 800 existing busts.
Notice how much Vespian (far right top row) looks like former US President Lyndon B. Johnson

What? No color visual representations of the famous Consuls like Sulla, Marius or Pompey? The Roman Republic gets no love!
edit: Nero kinda looks like an overweight Dale Earnhardt Jr.

If the statutes / busts these are based on were contemporary I would imagine as well that they're pretty accurate. The "Lyndon Johnson" one is uncanny in resemblance.

Caligula doesn't look mad or cruel enough. John Hurt made a brilliant portrayal of this unbalanced and sadistic Emperor in 'I Claudius'.

I really need to re-watch "I Claudius". It's been at least 15 years since I last saw it.
Compared to Hollywood productions it was "low budget" but the cast and writing was absolutely stellar.

Unfortunately there doesn't seem to be footage available of Caligula's dance from the series. One of the most weird and unsettling scenes I've ever witnessed!

Interesting, I didn't know they had so many. I saw the one found in Pompeii of Trajan, but it was much younger.
