Watched The Hidden Fortress for the first time over the weekend. It's a fun little adventure with some crazy situations the characters get themselves in. Did you notice any similarities between “Hidden Fortress” and “Star Wars”? Yes definitely. I always heard that The Hidden Fortress was an inspiration for Star Wars. Now that I've seen it, it's quite obvious. He also totally ripped off 633 squadron, take a look: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4OZq-tlJTrU

Oh man, I liked 633 Sqn. and the Star Wars 1and 2. I watched a J. Wayne movie El Dorado with one of the nicest looking Cowgirls on film. On the list is The St. Valentine's Day Massacre a B Movie made back in the day. I Will Finish up the week with U Tube's Esther and the King with a total knockout Joan Collins and Maybe The Apartment a favorite J. Lemon film.
The young Joan Collins was indeed a knock out and she was both beautiful AND extremely talented in the classic ST: TOS episode "City on the Edge of Forever".

The Seven Samurai, haven't seen it in over 10 years. It's still a great movie, but I forgot how long it is. Not that it drags, just stayed up a bit later than I would have liked. One of the many stunning things about Seven Samurai is that the film is 3.5 hours but not a single minute feels like extraneous fluff. It’s one of those films that pulls me in and manages to keep my attention for the entire duration. It also manages to pull off the critically important thing of actually making you care whenever one of the major characters die.

I am done with Robocop after seeing that poor cop getting shot up like that. You can still shoot a scene where a cop is murdered by bad guys without the blood and audience will still get that a cop was killed. No you can't. Paul Verhoeven is a genius and his gritty directing and dedication to setting made Robocop the masterpiece of cinema that it is. Memorable, timeless, and a film everyone should be made to watch once. Then they should have to watch Starship Troopers. There are subtle messages embedded in both films, Starship Troopers moreso, but there's a great moral lesson being taught in these films. Okay, much less so in Robocop, but the film is important, nonetheless. Them 1980's movies filled with anger and rage and violence. What was wrong with people then?
Nothing was wrong with us in the 80s. The period was the last golden age, full of creative passion and a strong work ethic, amazing works were produced during the time period and the movies captured reality in a gritty, often truthful way that may be hard to digest by weaker individuals. We knew words could not hurt us, and accepted that the good guys did not always win, but knew if we worked our butts off anything was possible.

First seen on Sunday afternoon TV back in 1960 when I was ten, which triggered an interest in Japanese culture and opening duel inspired me to practice Kendo some years later. I wanted to be Kyûzô the cool-headed swordmaster! There is something about the way Kurosawa uses natural elements to create ambience and tension within the limits of monchrome which has never been surpassed. At my age now though , a 3.5 hour film can't be watched without at least one 'comfort break'.!

You can still shoot a scene where a cop is murdered by bad guys without the blood and audience will still get that a cop was killed. So what you are saying is that you are utterly incapable of recognizing social commentary and political satire? If that is the case then stay away from any Paul Verhoeven film.
