I think High n Dry was there best album. I was 16 when there first album came out (On Through The Night), and I remember saying there were just kids, and they were only two years older then I was
Definitely one of the youngest band to hit big time in that era (early 80´s), and a very good one too.

ACDC started my metal journey, even though they aren't metal. Angus' guitar work blew my mind and the way him and Bon jelled on stage was awesome. Totally blew the mainstream radio stuff we had to listen in the car as kids in the early '80's out of the water..it's like woah..there is music out there just for me
Then Iron Maiden which led to Judas Priest and all the British NWOHM bands. I was never big on Led Zep, Sabbath or Deep Purple though, it felt dated although i liked Ozzy on his own. Metallica blew it all apart with thrash along with Megadeth and Slayer. That early stuff was just...woah. Then the hair metal/glam metal era with a bunch of meh to middling one hit wonder stuff like Poison and others, Motley Crue being probably the best of the bunch. Pantera evolving from glam to power/thrash/groove metal was the best thing that came out of that whole stage, those first two albums were fire.
And so many others. Tons of hardcore punk as well, started out with the Pistols and then discovered The Ramones, Dead Kennedys etc Have even delved into some Cannibal Corpse on the death metal side of things amongst other bands. I can't reccommend the lyrics, but the music is wicked
Parkway Drive Slipknot, their last album kicks some serious @ss! If you haven't listened to it you are doing yourself a disservice.

I was working in a heavy metal bar when I was 17 as a DJ here in Europe at the time, and had a hard time getting into the death/speed metal bands like Slayer and Venom. It was hard for me to wrap my head around those styles, but I had all the metal heads from the city come up on weekends and request these bands. What would be Thrash wasent out yet, and that took me awhile too, until I saw Metallica for the first time and down in the pit (Mater of Puppets tour). Nobody through a punch, it was all good fun in the pit, and that blew me away! We always used to fight back then LOL: The early Testament and Exodus became some of my favs.
I drew If you want blood, you got it, on the front cover of my notebook in high school

I listened to a little Kiss when I was a teenager, mostly because one of my best friends was heavily into Kiss so we'd put it on at his place. But Queen was my favorite band then (and still is).
Then at University in the early 90s I disovered Metallica, of whom I love the "Black album" the most, but enjoy their earlier 'speed' phase too. I caught onto Manowar while in the Army.
THen it took a while before I ventured future into Metal with Iron Maiden (again due to friends), and from there I've sunk into it
I used to visit the record store, look for covers that looked interesting and listened to them. How I caught onto Rhapsody and Blind Guardian. Nighwish fast became a great favorite. I love their first vocalist, and their third. The second was forgettable.
Some of my favorite bands now are: Iron Maiden - I love their journey into more Progressive Metal Nightwish Blind Guardian Candlemass - Epic Doom Metal. Opeth - the masters of Progressive Metal Within Temptation Borknagar Sabaton
Some of these bands are the only ones I've explored in their genres. I dislike a growling vocal, but a couple of bands have done it in ways that I can enjoy it, but mixing clear and growl. Black Metal I've never gotten into, nor see a desire to explore. Their growling turns me off. Goth Metal (Nighwish, Epica, ++) with a clear female vocal and growling male has long been a favorite genre.

And a trend for the black jeans, white sneakers, long hair and a Metal tee shirt. I still have a drawer full of about ten or twelve old long sleeve and short sleeves from the '90's that i only wear to concerts nowadays. I can't bring myself to ever throw them out.

This thread inspired me to listen to some Iron Maiden last night.

I was living in Florida when I became a metalhead, I say this because we wore high heel square point leather boots, corduroy Levis, and of course concert T´s and basball concert T´s. With the heat that shines on the Florida state, it was like we were nuts to ware that!
My hair grew more like a afro, rather then long those days LOL!
@PanzerMeyer...
You picked my fav Iron Maiden album, Piece of Mind...
