Hi, folks. I managed to find an old copy of MiG Alley and through some tweaking got it working on my Win10 computer. It installed and boots up just fine, and I can navigate the menus and all perfectly well. However, when I try to actually start a mission (for example an instant action mission) it doesn't quite work. It spends a couple of minutes loading, finishes loading in, but the loading splash screen never goes away. I can hear radio chatter, the sounds of my plane, etc, but I can't actually see anything!

I'm so tantalizingly close to getting this working, but I'm stumped as to how to fix this. I'm running it in compatibility mode for Win98 as an administrator, at 800x600 resolution. The graphics card I'm using is just an Intel integrated graphics card since the game is so old, the Intel HD Graphics 530 (with the i7-6700HQ CPU.)

I'm not entirely sure what's messing up here. Anyone have an idea of how to get it working?

I did everything per the other websites, it starts fine but the joystick wont work at all and if you install bdg patches it wont boot so either way I am stuck.

Yes but no fun without it.

- you referring to the joystick or the bdg patch?

i might suggest checking out the thread for mig alley at Vogons and raising the joystick issue there, as that is where all the fixing magic is happening so to speak

there is on google some program for joystick to mouse that will make the joystick be read as the mouse and so using that might work for you. I use a similar program that goes the other way, making the mouse into a virtual joystick (helps with games like CFS3 etc)

Yes, but no one has responded over there in weeks.

Hi I managed to get Mig Alley working perfectly on Win10 64bit thanks to the various tips at Vogons, org. I had the same problem others have had with joystick being recognised in the menus but not working in game. Eventually hit on the following solution:

Installed Joy To Key v6.8 (an earlier version didn't work).
Set stick options to the keyboard arrow keys
Works perfectly however you may have to adjust keyboard sensitivity using the K and shift K keys when in the 3d. After that it should remain corrected without having to readjust. In my case the sensitivity level is perfect at level 2 which appears briefly on the info line in the 3D.
Don't know if it is significant but my Mig.exe compatibility is set to Win 8.

Hope this helps someone.

I pulled out my MIgAlley install notes:
MA was installed onto a secondary SSD (Win 7 system description above) .

Used MA disk and two patches : MA v1.23 and BDGs v0.85f. Both TrackIr 5 and my old TM Cougar and CH pedals tested and calibrated before install.

I copied pasted here directions by Lezzall on SimHQ 2/17/15.

Here is my take on the Mig Alley Win 7 64 bit install, for me it works perfectly. If you follow these

instructions you should be OK:-

1. Drag and drop the contents of the Mig Alley CD into a desktop Folder.Right click the install file
select properties-compatibility and set to Win 98/ME and install.
2. Do the same with Patch Mig123 eg.set compatibility to Win 98/ME and install.Dont worry about any
error messages that will probably appear.
3. Install Patch BDG Migalley v0.85f once you have set to Win 98/ME compatability.

4. Copy the Smacker folder [233mb] fron the Mig Alley CD into the main game folder c:// rowan/MIg.

5. Locate the "root" file within the game folder.Open with notepad and change the text to:-

0 "C:\rowan\mig"
1 "C:\rowan\mig"
2 "C:\rowan\mig"
3 "C:\rowan\mig"

4 0 .
5 1 .
6 2 .

7 0 .
8 1 .
9 2 artwork

10 "C:\rowan\mig"
11 1 English
12 "C:\rowan\mig"
13 "C:\rowan\mig"

14 0 .
15 0 .

Create a Mig Shortcut to put on the desktop. You will now be able to run the Sim without the hinderance of the CD.

The above install procedure worked HOTAS /pedals and TrackIr5 recognized in preferences. The BDG check boxes had to be checked to start TrackIR before starting MA.

After install two problems were found:
The first was that NO radio chatter in sim. I set MA compatibility to WinXP - solved.

The second was a crash caused the intro video. To eliminate I added: “-nointro” switch to theMA shortcut. Ie the shortcut’s target would be :
“C/rowan/mig” -no intro”

Graphic and sounds setting were tweeted via nVidia and drivers.

Hot shots, Single missions and campaign checked out good. Running ok since.
Hope this helps.

You may all find this funny but I totally rid myself of white or black screen issues and can run the game without DXWND by removing the Dbghelp file out of main folder. Game starts and runs pefectly now after patch 1.23 and bdg 0.85 applied on windows 10!
