From the article: "Colonel Tom’s fantastic fundraising broke records [and] inspired the whole country,"

So was he a captain or a colonel in the British Army?

He was originally a Retired Captain, but because of his fantastic commitment to fundraising for the NHS we was awarded the rank of Colonel.

BTW the company that were organising his fundraising took a massive chunk of the money in "commission".

Cheers,

Andy

This is why I don't give to charity, there are always sharks swimming in the water.

I'm not sure what the money actually went towards. How big a chunk Andy,do you know?

Tom Moore is a wonderful man though,he deserves the recognition.

Commission on Captain Tom Moore's fundraising fact checked, worth a read.

Thanks for that update RedToo.

I was not aware of the latest development.

I still feel they are taking far too much for what they did. They must have all the systems in place to deal with credit card and paypal donations for other charities.

Bad enough that a real hero of a man has to do this to fund a national service while the UK government cut their funding every way they can.

Yeah, but they still need an office, water and electricity, people to run the thing, customer service, legal support, janitor, PR, etc, etc.

A 1% fee isn't unacceptable, and "processing fees" are more than just transferring money from one bank account to another.

Still, on the JustGiving website there is no openness about where the money goes and how they handle their affairs, which is a big no-no for me. For me personally, a charity needs complete and total transparency as if it were a publicly listed company. JustGiving doesn't do that.
