Nearly 100,000 people in the U.S. have already died from the virus.
More like 100,000 have died since the virus was recognized. The books are seriously being cooked, and the cooks are staying home and getting paid. Duhhhhh!

Mask wearing is demonstrated to be pointless by those experts advocating it: they almost universally say masks must be accompanied with social distancing and other mitigation efforts to be effective, and suggest we will be wearing masks for months or years to come; if it were effective enough to be useful, it would be reducing the spread of the disease to near zero.......
I once was a certified surgical instrument sterilization technician. What did we do to protect ourselves when handling bloody instruments post op, all of which are always considered to be contaminated with some pathogen? We wore a mask.
Masks are not 100% effective, anyone who claims otherwise is ignorant or a liar. Therefore if the mask is not 100% effective it makes sense to combine the mask with other measures, such as distancing, to increase the overall effectiveness. And since not everyone is going to wear a mask, or wear one but improperly, or fail to maintain distancing you will never see 100% containment. If two people are in line together at the store and one is wearing a mask and the other isn't both are protected from pathogen spread to some degree greater than if neither were wearing a mask. If both wear a mask the benefit is increased for both. If both wear a mask and maintain their distance the benefit is even greater. But the mask won't protect you from touching a contaminated surface then rubbing your eye. So no, even if everyone wore a mask that won't cause disease spread to drop to zero.
There is a lot of hyperbole about masks on both sides. One side claims that masks are useless and/or dangerous. The other claims that as long as everyone wears a mask and maintains proper spacing then you're 100% safe. Neither is true.

I carry 2 different masks with at all times. Always wearing them where required. Out here its everything inside any business and outside if you can`t maintain 6 ft. I take it off the minute I go out the door.
