This is the next installment of the "Big Iron" series! This is aircraft 001. The first prototype. If first flew on March 2, 1969 out of Toulouse, France.

I remember seeing the Concord at the airport one time, and being surprised how small it really was.

I did not have the opportunity to see one in real life MajorMagee but, with that being said, I would imagine it would, by design, appear smaller than any comparable size wide body.

It was the small diameter of the main cabin that really stood out compared to all the commercial aircraft around it. With today's regional aircraft being so prevalent it might not have left the same impression, but back then the only planes like it were small corporate jets. Granted those were much shorter overall compared to Concord, but that's more like the class it appeared to fall into.

I was pretty sure that Concorde 001 had 'Sud Aviation France' on the side for its maiden flight, and a check on youtube shows that to be the case. Sud Aviation became part of Aerospatiale in 1970 according to wikipedia so they must have repainted it soon after.
Then I realised that I've actually been on that plane. Unfortunately,it was only a walkthough of the cabin at the museum at Le Bourget Airport in Paris. That was in 1982, so I'm not sure if it's still there.

Anyway, great pics and thanks for triggering some memories. smile
