IL-2 Sturmovik: Desert Wings - TOBRUK, the new addition to the acclaimed realistic air combat simulator IL-2 Sturmovik: Cliffs of Dover Blitz, is coming out this summer!

Add IL-2 Sturmovik Desert Wings - TOBRUK to your Steam wish list today: https://store.steampowered.com/app/1049440/IL2_Sturmovik_Desert_Wings__Tobruk/

In this exciting new IL-2 Sturmovik: Cliffs of Dover - Blitz Desert War expansion, you can fly with over 40 aircraft and variants from the Royal Air Force, the Luftwaffe or the Regia Aeronautica. See combat in the legendary Spitfire, sturdy Hurricanes, stubby Martlets, and rugged Kittyhawks, or take wing in deadly Messerschmitts and Macchis. The game introduces a flyable Wellington bomber, as well as updated versions of the Ju-88 and Heinkel 111H. Desert Wings allows bomber and fighter jocks of all skill levels the opportunity to fully challenge themselves in this historically based campaign.

In addition to the long list of flyable aircraft, there are over 25 new tanks, artillery and vehicles as well as 17 new ships, including massive battleships, cruisers, destroyers, patrol boats, submarines, torpedo boats and merchant ships; these additions allowing huge land and naval battles in ferocious detail.

IL-2 Sturmovik: Desert Wings- TOBRUK will feature a 385km x 385km North African map recreating in precise detail the strategic stronghold of Tobruk and the rugged contours of coast, desert and sea which surrounds it, with over 75 airfields, multiple landmarks and towns, an extensive road system as well as the historical fortifications, minefields and defenses, all based on actual maps from the war. Combined with the excellent multiplayer environment that allows over 100 players and dozens of AI aircraft online simultaneously, IL-2 Sturmovik: Desert Wings - TOBRUK promises intense and challenging human versus human aerial battles.

I’m not getting it until it’s in the bargain bin for $19,99. Why? I haven’t touched CloD since going VR with DCS and Il2 great battles. The $19.99 is basically me throwing money at you for support for what you did with CloD. VR, apparently, is still a niche within the combat flight sim niche but I just can’t play in front of a screen anymore after having strapped on a Warbird in VR. CloD became brilliant when you guys overhauled it but this was before I experienced VR. I truly hope it sells well (not everyone has VR) but I’m disappointed I can’t fly it in VR. When I saw the announcement email my heart jumped with joy because I thought it was about Il2-GB. Talk about a let down. My bad of-course. Comprehensive reading and not just wishful thinking would’ve prevented my disappointment.

I've heard similar views from other VR owners BigC

Makes VR desirable and undesirable at the same time smile

Edit: I've read VR will added by the new year

Would you like some cheese to go with that whine Bigc? Poor VR users. All the Devs are ignoring you. I think I hear the world's smallest violin playing 'my heart bleeds for you. If you kept up with TFS at all you would know that once Tobruk is released and stable, VR is a top slotted development addition, unless everyone follows your piss poor attitude and does not purchase it. So, here's what ya do Bigc, after Tobruk has been released a couple of weeks and you see good reviews, which you will, just buy it to support TFS, then put your VR goggles back on for say 6 months and SHAZAAMMM, Tobruk will support VR most likely. Try to remember Bigc, , there are between 94 to 97 percent of Non VR users buying the Sims that support VR now, or soon will. We Non Vr users are almost completely footing the bill for VR development. That money/time could be spent on 2d development, but you don't hear anyone #%&*$# about that do you. Maybe you should be thankful for the flight Sims that do support VR and also Support the Devs, like TFS, that want to and plan to support VR in the future. Sometimes you have to give a little before you get what you want. Stamping your feet and yelling that you are going to take your football and go home if everyone doesn't play by your rules is just childish. Take off your goggles for a while, rejoin the real world for a little bit and realize, it is not all about you brau. And remember to social distance, even while VRing. winkngrin

Sorry Blade_Meister, not sure where your comments come from, but they really do not fit in with the conversation

Guys,

Appreciate everyone's comments/feelings/opinions. VR is one of our goals. We chose not to spend far more time on implementing and delaying the release further.

Some people will not buy the sim because of what it doesn't offer, but many more will due to what it does.

We will be launching a new weather application post release, which we would have liked in the release. It is outstanding, but we want to get it right.

We have stated for a long time now that VR is not going to be in the initial release, however is is part of our strategy post release.

No game is everything to everyone. The important thing to remember is that the current period is a great time to be a WW2 flight simmer. Such a varied offering to all players, we haven't seen anything like it for probably 20+ years. It's awesome smile The more people who support our collective market, the more we will all see in the future.

Cheers,

Pattle

I have to admit, I'm sick to death of hearing yet another moan about lack of VR... for god's sake, it's been done to death already.
It's been stated over and over that it will come but not with the release of Tobruk.
Stop the threats not to buy, and stop the griping.

I'm in when VR is added as well.

No, I'm not moaning just saying.

As far as moaning goes the loudest moaners in this thread are the ones moaning at VR simmers, not the other way around.

I don’t look at this forum very often. Last time I looked there still was no VR in the cards. Hearing Pattle say it’s one of their goals is good news. I’m keeping my fingers crossed.

We’re not threatening anything. Nobody is putting a gun to our heads. If all they hear is praise and excitement about the release and nobody asks for VR, how do they know there’s a demand for it?
This started with a bunch of amateurs doing this in their spare time, fixing CloD, for free, mind you.
I applaud that.

Now that they’re asking for $69 of my hard earned cash I’m going to be a bit more demanding and ask for VR.

Blade_Meister earlier reacted as if I insulted the Virgin Mary and went completely of the rails. Reminds me of the breakfast scene from Oliver Twist: You want more! You ungrateful lump!

I want to fight like the Star of Africa IN Gelbe 14. Not in front of a screen.

I was in Best Buy today. Saw a couple of oculus rifts on sale and when I saw them I thought of this thread. I would really like to enhance my simming experience but not sure I want to commit to VR as there appears to be no going back. I've heard the same opinion from other VR users

That's just me, I continue to struggle with my trackir and generally fly without.

And of course you are not able to hide from your wife that you have purchased and are now using VR equipment biggrin

Plus I need to do some research on VR gaming. I have questions. Like, can you drink beer while VR gaming? Questions that needs answers lol

Good to see a lively thread in the CLOD forum. It's been a while

It’s very addictive. If your hardware is not up to snuff you’ll get sick as dog. Get a used Oculus Rift for a few hundred bucks. I have had two Track IR’s over the past 15 years. If you fly competitively stay with Track IR. You can’t quickly look behind you in VR unless you turn your upper body around. Do a couple of dogfights in full real and you’ll have a sore neck.

It’s not all milk and honey though. The resolution of the Rift is low compared to my three 60 inch 2560x1600 screens. Still, I’ve got about 12000 hours flying aircraft, including aerobatics in a T-34B. VR is as close as you’ll get to flying aerobatics in your office chair. I know a few guys that couldn’t handle the motion and got sick. If you click with it, you’ll never go back, lower resolution and all.

See if you can find someone in your area that’ll let you test drive VR with your flight sims. The HP Reverb 2 comes out this fall and should take care of the lower resolution. You’re also going to need a HOTAS if you don’ already have one.

Beer and flying don’t mix. Flying in VR and drinking beer could potentially mess up your equilibrium. Don’t want to puke over your simpit.😬

Annnnnnnd back to our normal programming ...

Fantastic news for the old CLOD, might even tempt me to buy a new joystick and pedals (AJAY's new rig made me dead jealous). Pattle, can you give a few more details:

- does this release include improvements to the AI? In some recent videos I still saw AI fighters not taking evasive action even though being shot up...
- can you give some more details about the single player campaign? How many missions, can it be played from all sides (brit/german/italian), does it use a dynamic campaign engine and if so whose?

Thanks and all the best with the impending release!

Heiny

Ah, Heinkill... not heard from you in ages biggrin
I'm sure when this is launched, it won't be long before the skinners are producing great desert skins, the mission builders are delving into the fmb and campaigns and missions will follow!
As to AI, I think we all need to hear about great improvements in that department.
