Stop me if this is old news but I may have come up with a de-facto "Player never leads" setting.

Admittedly this is only of interest for extreme attempts at immersion such as the current Deep Immersion DID Campaign.

In my current DID campaign, my player is recently promoted Major in game after 100 plus missions, however for the purposes of the maniacal DID campaign, he remains a Lieutenant and as such he would rarely if ever lead a patrol.

How then to ensure he doesn't lead? The Split command. Hitting the key gives a message that 'You have left the formation." The number 2 then slots into the lead position and the flight proceeds on its merry way. Pretty cool. salute Devs
On the downside, just as when you're a lowly Sgt, you must accept that the new leader might ignore those two enemy aircraft who flew right across his nose...

Works in the air and on the field. Anybody else done this?

Epower, I only use the split command when the rest of the flight continues to circle a ground target after an attack and "rejoin" command doesn't work. Not even so much anymore after the rally points have been tweaked in a recent patch. Good idea though!

The connecting rod out of my brain, my brain,
From out of my arse take the camshaft,
And assemble the engine again."
