I gave Fallout and Fallout 2 shots yesterday. Got turned off fairly quickly by the ancient graphics. While I didn't try them, I know I would like Fallout 3, Fallout 4, and Fallout NV. Thing is, I've already put 1000s of hours into playing/modding those smile

Also tried Elder Scrolls Morrowind. Graphics better than the early Fallouts. But, I was not "grabbed" by it.

I liked all those games when they were first released smile

FWIW: All that was while I worked on an "all new" W11 gaming PC. Taking advantage of sales and having fun making this new generation PC & OS "different" from others I've built. Mostly done but won't be totally finished until whenever AMD releases the new CPUs/Motherboards/GPUs. Right now I'm using an R5 5600G and my "old" RX5700XT as placeholders.

Yes and even Fallout New Vegas looks ancient now by today's standards. Fallout 76 though looks great and I recommend you give it a try.

FWIW: Slightly interesting game I just purchased on sale = "No Man's Sky". Its been available for several years. Its a fanciful recreation of the Universe to explore at your leisure. You fly an interstellar space ship, etc. Can land on all worlds, explore on foot, etc. What's interesting is how large the imaginary universe is.

Quote
"There are over 18 quintillion planets in the No Man's Sky universe -- to be precise, there are 18,446,744,073,709,551,616 fully fleshed-out worlds that anyone in the game can find and explore, and they're all very reasonably to scale with real planets."

Enough unique Planets to keep a gamer occupied for Billions of actual/real years of game play.

I may give it only a few hours -- or less -- didn't "grab me" on game first time "start up".

Moreover, I'm still dealing with eye problems from looking at PC screens too much -- so Billions of actual years of gameplay is out of the question for me. wink

Elden Ring, Fallout 76, Dying Light 2 and Sniper Elite 5 are taking up most of my gaming time these days.

-After 19 years I finally truly finished the Hidden and Dangerous 2 main campaign. I've been playing it since 2003 but never got passed the Czech mission where you have to destroy the tank column. That one had me stuck years ago but I would continue replaying the game over the years. I didn't realize I was that close to finishing it either. Literally the very next mission after that is the last one. It was cool to bring the main campaign full circle though and I loved the ending. Very poignant. I look forward to playing the expansion Sabre Squadron. I have dabbled with the first Sabre Squadron mission in the past but never got far. Now I've got the whole expansion to play really for the first time and its all new for me. I've got boat loads of pictures and videos too so I hope to do another after action report at some point.

Unfortunately though I could not finish the game with my original copy which would have been even cooler to finish it that way. I was playing the game with my original copy up until the end of last year but earlier this year I had to upgrade my PC including moving to Windows 10 after having Windows 7 for ten years. My old games played great on W7 but unfortunately W10 has some security features that are not allowing me to install and play my older games which really stinks. I'm not looking forward to seeing what else in my PC game library no longer works. I think there ought to be a way to have a work around because its ridiculous to have hardware that has no problem playing older games and yet be stuck with a new OS and features that specifically prohibit many of them from working. So I bought a copy from GOG and thankfully it just so happened they were having their sale. I was able to take my save game profile and load it into the GOG version and continue where I left off. What's also weird and I don't ever remember having this issue while I had Windows 7 but the game performed poorly for some reason. I couldn't figure out what the deal was and its very frustrating how things ran so well under W7 and then it seems something in the newer OS is causing all sorts of issues. Thankfully I figured out that using and updated .dll that someone made which upgrades the game's DX8 to DX9 seemed to fix the performance issue. Anyhow, a pain in the butt having to get something that worked perfectly fine before to behave with a new OS. I suppose its good thought to have a GOG version of the game as a playable solution and back up of the game.

-I'm still dabbling with a second playthrough of Alien Isolation but I'm not sure if I will continue yet.

-Still working through the campaign for Ghost of Tsushima.

-Playing a second playthrough of "Inside" which is an excellent little game. Made by the folks who did Limbo. A rare game in its ability to create sublime, dream-like visuals as well as outstanding animations and physics.

-Plugging away at Ori and the Blind Forrest which is another beautiful platformer.

-Hope to start a third playthrough of The Order: 1886 soon. Another gem and a small masterpiece in my opinion.

Yeah, I hear you Coot. It is very frustrating when your operating system will not let you play older games. I bought an external DVD drive for this purpose, but some games can't even install. Operation Flashpoint CWC is one. I know I can play ARMA CWC, but I want to play the original sometimes. BOB WOV II is another game that is impossible to play past Windows 8.

Currently playing Wolfenstein The New Order on PC...quite fun.
Also playing NHL 22 on Xbox Series X.....the Be A Player mode is like a hockey RPG, I'm really liking it.

Both games courtesy of Xbox Game Pass.

Defeated two more bosses in Elden Ring but I'm still not done with the main story. I'm now approaching about 270 hours in the game according to Steam.

I'm also still playing Sniper Elite 5 and Fallout 76. About once per week I play DCS, ArmA 3 and Ready or Not.

No Man's Sky is my second most played game on Steam, but to be fair after you've been to 40 or so starsystems you've seen most everything out there, due to how the procedural generation of planets is done. The biggest downfall to the game is the worlds do not have multiple biomes. Each planet is one single biome, so no traveling north or south and seen drastic changes beyond terrain formations/shore/coast/trees etc. If there was one content addition I could request it would be multiple biomes per world. In Star Citizen they have already modeled eight distinct biomes on one planet, so I'd start there as a minimum. Even Starlink, a Starfox/No Man's Sky weird hybrid has multiple biomes per planet--I have counted three or four, so that this came out after NMS and they have yet to address this issue is a bit saddening.

Regardless, there's so much to do in the game as is and remains one of my favorites.

DCS -currently mostly the F18 and P51
Hell Let Loose
Ready or Not - this one only once every week or two since there's not much to it yet.
Throw in a dash of Star Citizen

Now THAT is definitely a highly niche hobby!

I just finished The Evil Within 2 and now I'm a few hours into Prey. Both are rather underrated games.

Prey was indeed highly underrated and unfortunately a commercial failure. I guess the pimpled faced 14 year old demographic wasn't interested in it.

My eyes are better now (quit gaming for weeks to get eyes straight). Restarted Assassin's Creed Origins from the beginning. I've started more than once -- played a lot of hours total -- but never finished (see the attached screen shot).

I'm grinding all the locations for loot, picking up all the virtually worthless coins, doing all the quests, etc. As usual, I've modded the game.

60% of my pc-only gaming is on MSFS 2020, and the rest a mix between Wolfpack, DCS WWII, Squad, with a bit of Post Scriptum when and if I can find a darn populated server in Asia.

Cheers,

I'm quite impressed with MSFS 2020. I expected more average fare but the sim really has come a long way. It doesn't have DCS level flight modeling or cockpit control, but having a full 3D cockpit in every plane with clickable switches is a very big improvement, not even considering the eye popping scenery.

My posts in this thread occur about once every 30 days, give or take. Over the past year they've increasingly listed more and more games, as I expand my rotation to mix it up more. I have a sordid history of finding a game I dig and then playing the fook out of it until I inevitably burn out on it. Zero to 100 then full stop.

But over the past month I'm back to just two.

F1 22
Tiny Tina's Wonderlands

I'll echo Panzer and say that Prey is a great game, underrated in my opinion. One of my favorite games of the past five years or so. I think it's just outside that window now. Time flies!

I've actually jumped back into Elite. I've been core mining, very relaxing to fly through an asteroid belt (in VR) and blow up the occaisional roid, collect the juicy bits and move on.
I've finally gotten a couple of goals - get back over 1B in the wallet and finish off Exploration Elite. I'm gonna do the last by heading to Colonia and unlocking the engineers there.
I also plan on buying a new ship for the trip. My usual explo vessel is an AspX, I'm going to try rocking a DBX.

DB, what happened with HOI4? I take it that it didn't work for you?

Throughout history, poverty is the normal condition of man. Advances which permit this norm to be exceeded — here and there, now and then — are the work of an extremely small minority, frequently despised, often condemned, and almost always opposed by all right-thinking people. Whenever this tiny minority is kept from creating, or (as sometimes happens) is driven out of a society, the people then slip back into abject poverty.
This is known as "bad luck.”
