I don't see Elite Dangerous as a console game that was ported to the PC but the other way around.

Yes, maybe I could have worded it differently. Let's try

(all games that are on console and PC!)

I was highlighting the fact I was bagging on Frank while playing 'console' games myself smile

Derek, if only playing on console wasn´t as comfortable and easy to setup...;-)

Just kidding, PC gaming isn´ t much more complicated nowadays. It just depends on the game I like to play and if it is exclusive on that platform.
Native controller support is always a plus though. biggrin

Time is the only luxury.

Hey Frank old man, yeah I was just having a bit of fun, and I more or less agree. I don't play on console, although the mini-me has X Box and Playstation. But I do indeed see the advantages, and to prove that I am playing F1 2022 with a controller. smile

Hope all is well with you and yours.

**Shudder** Playing a racing sim with anything besides a wheel/shifter and brake/gas pedal set up is like drinking decaf coffee! Why bother???

If you don't have the space or money a controller at least has a number of analog axes that works well enough.

Point awarded for not using shutter PM. The internet, eh?

I will stand up for the public stoning, and say I really like it! The controller that is, not the stones.

I have three freakin' Momo wheels, long time sim racer as I'm sure you know. But they are bulky, and in the way when not being used, gotta clamp it and re-clamp it to the desk, and bah. Controller's so simples. Works great in this sim, and I can recline in my seat just so.

It's liberating, not limiting. Works for me!

Bravo for being consistent with a controller. That's my main problem with racing titles. I always accelerate too much or brake too hard at some point, and catching a drift or easing a too tight turn is much harder for me. This said, some titles are easier than others with a controller, F1 series being one of them.

On the topic, right now world of warship is my main, with a bit of arma editing (still a noob after 20 years playing, what a shame) and RD2 once in a while, plus weekly online flight on Great Battles (they porked the pilot survivability to hard landings so I limit my playing time, not wanting to lose my careers stupidly). I was playing much DCS previous month, but current war somehow make me reject it, I loved shooting virtual russians in the 80s when I thought it was a relic of the past, now not so much.

And finally some Project Cars 2 once in a while, with a controller mainly, so I set visual damage only, and lower AI to account for my lack of consistency.

I think it's partly something to do with this particular sim, yes, because I've tried other racing games with a controller and had difficulties, like AC. I also use low TC to overcome the lack of fine pedal control. But that's the only aid I allow, aside from auto transmission. It works really well. I'm fast and consistent in the sim, even using a controller.

Partly it may be the actual controller. A quick anecdote.... recently I noticed my USB X Box controller was having issues, the X button was a little sticky and the right trigger gave false commands, as though it were being quickly pressed and released. It only shows in FIFA, where every time I have a set piece the game constantly goes in to 'pick your taker mode', which is right trigger. So I ordered a new controller from Amazon last week. But this controller has some sort of dead zone around the stick centers, making fine driving corrections nearly impossible. So I had to go back to the old one which drives far better. Didn't expect them to feel so different.

I remember playing "World Circuit" by Microprose with a keyboard and mouse because I didn't have a wheel at the time. I remedied that as soon as possible by saving every precious penny during my starving college student years and I bought my first MOMO wheel a few months later.

Meantime, I'm doing eye, body, and mind exercises with all that spare time to fix things.

So far, it seems to be working. My vision in particular has dramatically improved -- still work to do.

First real playing in a couple months. A Witcher 2 replay starting at the beginning. 6 hours plus yesterday an an hour today without my vision "going double".

I'll continue playing Witcher 2 using certain vision fixes, as it is part of my plan to solidly re-establish my eyesight.

Odd that your eyesight is so negatively affected. Do you play in a dark or bright room? Does your monitor have an ambient light sensor to limit brightness? If you wear glasses, is the prescription up to date? Do you look away every hour or so, or less, to refocus eyes?

I start getting that double vision if I try to game much past Midnight. Long gone are the days when I could game until like 3 AM with no problem. smile

It's not odd, it's called aging!

A big part of it, I believe, had to do with staring at the screen a few hours at a time. Now, I have an eye chart (20 ft away) that I spin around (in the swivel chair) and look at every so often.

I also use eyeglasses while playing -- set for close vision -- even though my "bare eyes" focus quite well at arms length (20/15 when not doubled). Thus, due to the glasses, my eyes are actually focused for distance when looking at the PC screen.

I use glasses with small circular lenses that fit close to the eyes. I found modern looking larger rectangular lenses hasten the "double vision".

Screen brightness is normally set down; and, I use "Night light on" 24 hours a day except when gaming.

I also do special eye exercises -- that some bright eye doctor figured out in the 1800s. He felt poor eyesight was due to civilized folks not using the eyes as they were designed to be used. In my case, his findings seem to have merit.

Bottom line, some days I now see well all day doing normal things without glasses (20/30 to 20/25 at distance, 20/15 to 20/12 up close in perfect lighting).

All FWIW, if someone has a similar issue. Nothing is proven. Just seems to be what works for me, so far.
