Throughout history, poverty is the normal condition of man. Advances which permit this norm to be exceeded — here and there, now and then — are the work of an extremely small minority, frequently despised, often condemned, and almost always opposed by all right-thinking people. Whenever this tiny minority is kept from creating, or (as sometimes happens) is driven out of a society, the people then slip back into abject poverty. This is known as "bad luck.” -Robert Heinlein

I played TIE fighter/X Wing and X-Wing Alliance to death back in the day, and I've been waiting for a up to date version to appear for years. Sadly, I'm not sure this will be it... it comes across as a typical EA game.
''The Mission is Clear – Star Wars: Squadrons is a fully self-contained experience from day one, where you earn rewards through play. Climb the ranks and unlock new components like weapons, hulls, engines, shields, and cosmetic items in a clear path for progression that keeps game play fresh and engaging.''
''Keeps game play fresh and engaging''... in real life that equates to 'grinding' the game to progress to fancy pilot uniforms, better engines, shields, etc, etc!
Having said that, as a massive SW fan I will be watching this closely and will be happy to be proved wrong.

+1 I will keep an open mind on this game. I don't think anyone here is expecting an Elite Dangerous level of realism and detail but if this new SW game can at least get half way to that level then I'll most likely buy it.

X-Wing, Tie Fighter, and all of Microprose sim lineup weren't about progression, they were about taking off in your craft and pwning everything. You gained rank and medals to pin on your chest. But spacecraft, aircraft and choppers? They were complete, whole, and ready for action. I don't need, nor desire artificial progression to feel engaged.

Yeah, I don't really even want a SW Elite game so it's fine to be on the lighter side. I'll trade physics for story.
